Lopez has improved. But his jumping needs to be still improved. Guy doesn't know how to jump and land safely in traffic.

Maybe not as much improvement as most of us here have expected in the last 3 years or so.

Well, the good thing about Lopez is that he's still young. He'll turn 21 few days from now. The key is for him to polish basic basketball skills - shooting, dribbling & defense. Most players start to seriously improve/polish basic skills when they reach 20 to 23 years old. Take the case of the 23-year old Kevin Quiambao who obviously has improved his game in the last 2 years or so. I think everyone will agree that current Kevin Quiambao is a significantly better basketball player than a 21-year old Kevin Quiambao. I think Quiambao made a conscious & serious efforts in polishing his shooting & ball handling in the last 2 years. If Lopez is going to do the same, I'm confident Lopez will be a significantly better player 2 or 3 years from now. Hope Lopez hires a skill coach/trainer that would focus on polishing his shooting, ball handling & defense.

Shooting and ball handling are general terms.

in the case of KQ, his is a much better passer but his handles could still use some work. He cannot get past smaller, peskier defenders when coming from the perimeter and this limits both his ability to leverage his size driving to the basket, and his ability to playmake using his own movement rather than his teammates’ off-ball movement.

Lopez in contrast has drastically improved his three point shot, including some step-backs which he has been displaying for a while now. He also has tight enough handles to drive even against smaller defenders, and has already proven last year that he is good at the kick-out pass either when driving, or when being the high post man in a zone-buster offense.

what Lopez specifically lacks is a mid-range shot, especially a pull-up. He also hasn’t taken more threes so defenders usually correctly expect a drive or a pass. Lopez also doesn’t have good vision dishing to the dunker spot, unlike his teammates Alarcon and Felicilda. Lopez in general hasn’t had the ability to take advantage of his teammates’ off-ball movement in the way KQ does.

Defensively we haven’t seen much by way of laterals because he has been defending post players more often, and teams employ post attacks more than pick and rolls against UP because of a perceived weakness at the 4 spot. But Lopez has good anticipation on the weakside both going for helpside blocks or intercepting cross-court passes.

Lopez has a lot of homework to do, but to say he hasn’t improved a lot is a bit of a stretch. Even intangibles-wise, he has proven to be good at absorbing the system and playing within it, and is a loud cheerleader on the bench.

Defensively, Lopez should improve his laterals. In FIBA, he's a wing. And I think defense carries more importance at the wing than just shooting if we're talking internationally. That is, if the wing's not at the level of a Fadi El-Khatib or a Samad Nikkah Bahrami.

If Lopez wants to be a scorer in the international level, he needs creation in the midrange and enough handles to pull that off.

agree. Norwood got away with being a mediocre outside shooter because of his defense and secondary playmaking ability.

Mara is not included in CSB's line up in Filoil as per Blazers FB page.

Whats a good landing spot for him? Lyceum perhaps? They lack bigs too

Mara is playing now in sinag liga asya with mur alao and gelo vanguardia. If moves it'll prolly be either letran or ue. Both known landing spots for phenom boys. Also worth nothing he's also kampangan and former ue jr warrior. Sayang he wasnt able to build on his development. He has the hops and skills to be the next will gozum. Atleast one less headache for the team

Also not in the list are zenric jarque (injured foot) and justine sanchez (injury recovery)

Yep 1 less headache, I notice he seems to be a hothead on the court.
Hope the injuries are minor. Jarque is injury prone e

Jarque's in a walking boot. Might be ready in a month pa. Sanchez is already recovering.

is the serrano guy the same one with ceu who played in the dleague? he's still part of the filoil team.

Yep 1 and the same guy. I dont know whats his set up or "deal" with the CSB mngt?

He had a tryout of some sort with ceu. He is still with csb as of the moment. Same with Mara. Though Charles Tiu is planning on having mara spend time in Team B to preserve his eligibility left. He also needs to catch up on acads. He'll prolly be lineup again next year with turco and sangco both graduating. Can't deny he is looking for other opportunities though.

DLSU have a couple of months to solve their PG problem.

They should prolly just platoon the pg minutes and have kq and the rest of their gunners share the facilitating duties. As it is nobody in the team is a solid facilitator ala evan nelle and having the best 5 guys in the floor is as important.

DLSU is still currently out-talenting teams in the preseason, despite the lack of a number 1 PG in their lineup. Last season, Ateneo didn’t have a good PG, and with a so-so roster, resulted in poor play (specially during the first round). We’ll see if DLSU’s lack of a clear PG will rear its ugly head during the actual UAAP season.

Rubico was OK in the D-League against weaker teams. But yeah very far from a Nelle.

DLSU needs to find a way to make plays without a real PG.

I wonder if KQ can take over from Nelle as the floor general and leader of the team.

I dont think KQ can breakdown defenses on the dribble.
