Anyone have an idea where Mike Phillips is? Nice game going on between UP and DLSU.

UP is 2-0 against La Salle in the pre-season. La Salle misses Nelle's presence out there.

Just saw snatches of the game. Ododo did not start but Aguanne played heavy minutes early one. KQ was able to solve Alarcon's defense. Reyland Torres a 2, a steal, then a 3. In the final minutes Aguanne was sat for some plays. Seems to me he got tired and La Salle couldn't score with him on the bench.

It was more like UP had more confidence once Agunane was not in the game. Dunno why he didn't come back, probably got winded? Anyway, as a UP fan, I liked this win but Phillips was not in this ballgame, so it still feels underwhelming.

Yeah. Philipps there is almost like an FSA on defense.

UP down by 20 at the half and still managed to pull it off in the end. Just rewatched the second half and looks like Lopez made a huge leap defensively this year. He pretty much singlehandedly clamped down KQ in the second half. Seems lime KQ struggles against long and athletic defenders like Lopez.

I didnt see KQ much last season. But I didnt really see him as an excellent shot creator from the games that I saw. He is a good 3 pt shooter. But creating against decent defense we have to see.

Lebrob lopez did a solid job guarding KQ, especially late in the fourth. As it is i think only UP, maybe FEU if Pre is able to improve his D, has the personnel to guard KQ.

UP exposed KQ’s lack of a closeout and dribble-drive game. He only has a post-up or a pull-up game. When KQ started successfully posting up on Alarcon, Lopez took that option out. From that moment, KQ was reduced to being a shot-jacker.

Lopez held his own against Quiambao, a. Slid his feet well, stayed in front. Hopefully, I can see that in the UAAP, when he's switched onto guards and wings.

He has to get better on defense so that he can be more useful for Gilas.

Losing Malick really had a silver lining - because there was no more cheat code, the Maroons had to become more disciplined on defense.

Agreed. La Salle relies too much on KQ to facilitate and make shots. UP took away KQ's ability to make plays and forced him to be a scorer instead. It was tough to guard La Salle last year because they have two excellent playmakers in KQ and Nelle. KQ's the only above-average playmaker left and everybody else is a finisher including their PG Ramiro.

Phillips played in the first game against UP, which La Salle also lost. UP is 2-0 so far against La Salle in the pre-season.

In fact, UP might just have stumbled upon a defensive formula for them and the other UAAP teams (with adequate personnel) to use against the Archers.

Francis Lopez reminds me a lot of Kobe Paras. Same kinks on their game, same competitive temperament, loose handles, suspect 3, insane athleticism, capable interior defender and some rim protection from the 3/4 position.

That said, I hope Lopez is what we’d hoped Kobe would be.

Maybe magkakatalo sa attitude. U know what I mean.

How is Lopez' perimeter defense? Is his laterals good enough?

This may suggest it won't be enough having a good facilitator type of a combo forward, as in the case of Kevin Quiambao, while your point guards aren't good enough. Even if you have a facilitator playing as a wing or a "four", your team would still need an intelligent & skilled point guard to get the job done.
