How was Ramiro?

He's experiencing the usual filam realization that waaay more physicality here is allowed compared to the US.

He's a bit older so he should adjust quicker, but he will need the reps in the preseason. Fortunately for him, there won't be too much pressure to playmake due to having KQ and a lot of shooters.

DLSU acquiring him really shows that they're gunning for that back-to-back no matter the cost. It's on top of KQ's mind-boggling monthly (more than a lot of small teams whole monthly budget). Then you have Mike and Poli. After that they're on the hook longer term for Konov, Cortez, Baclaan and the rest of the guys.

DLSU really has deep pockets on par with UP and was just waiting for the right moment to deploy it.

I understand why NU won't spend anymore because it's all business for them and business has been good.

But what's up with ADMU and their recruitment? They also have deep pockets but have been losing the bidding wars recently.

Looks like UP won't be playing their Pinoyliga quarterfinals against Enderun tomorrow. Reason is incomplete lineup due to exams.

My guess, the uncertainty of tab's situation with ateneo, if im a top recruit and the one who recruited me isnt on the hook long term and can be replace by someone who may not have the same trust in me and can bring along recruits of his own, yeah ill prolly go somewhere else where the coach is in it for the long term. Another should be the team's 'open' rebuilding situation, recruits could prefer teams in win now mode as it helps them with their bball resume if they won championships. And lastly ateneo's or tab's strict academic requierements, most of these guys are athletes first and students second. They would prolly have a hard time adjusting to the acads situation of the school. Its no secret that most of these guys still need to take the acet before even being admitted to ateneo.

Any idea how many years Tab has left with Ateneo?

Contract ends til 2025. Not sure if renewed.

The rookies and sophomore on the current Ateneo team should be ready by then. Hopefully, Tab stays but then again he's done it all in the UAAP. Maybe he can move to a different role within Ateneo ala Bo Perasol?

The defense of other teams, namely UP and La Salle, have stepped up.

The UP defense, when it's on, is a joy to watch. Just constant pressure, switching, and hustle plays. It's UP's offensive sets that leave a lot to be desired, honestly.

Its tom chua calling the shots on defense right? I always see him coaching when they're on defense. Pretty underrated imo.

For NU. They have been performing really well sa other sports naman to suffice. I think they invested in basketball during the first few years of SM takeover since they knew that it would also lead to more enrollees.

Besides they are still a final 4 contender even without star studded names on their roster.

with regards to ADMU i think it is because of Ateneo (and even coach Tab) being strict with Academics. They didnt have any high profile recruit in recent memory aside from maybe Jared Bahay or Dave Ilefonso.

I do wonder how the Ateneo boosters are reacting to this lull in recruitment. I don't suppose they are happy being outbid by DLSU, UP, and UST. Then again, Ateneo must have a different plan or program altogether.

The thing i noticed about ateneo, especially in tab's era is that they rarely go for high profile recruits. Its mostly their own guys(ahs or ateneo de cebu), under the radar hs recruits and filfors who fit their system that tab and the team goes for. They dont really join in the bidding wars for these high profile recruits unless the team believes they will fit in at ateneo, maybe its just being magnified now since most of the guys they were going after are top recruits and lots of other teams also joined in, while ateneo losing the bidding wars. They dont just get and recruit top players for the sake of it.

No they got top recruits. Arvin Tolentino, CJ Perez etc. That was a golden batch. Unfortunately they lost all of them because of strict acad requirements. They didnt change that. Instead going for Filfors. Kouames dominance hid the weakness of their team. Padrigaos departure worsened it. Without a decent FSA, no star vet. They are pretty weak. Not sure why they are playing without an FSA right now. That wont get it done. They will be cellar dwellars.

But those guys were recruited before baldwin officially became in charge of the ateneo program. I think they were bo perasol recruits pa. Starting 2016 up to the present, bahay is prolly the most high profile recruit they got, after him who are the top recruits they got that were highly sought after? Most of the recruits they go for, aside from what i mentioned already, usually just develops through the system, but were unheralded coming to ateneo. But i do agree with you that they struck gold with kouame along with the great ahs batch pre pandemic. As for why they dont have fsa now, according to the posters here, Balogun is apparently injured. Tho yeah, i believe they'll prolly finish last this season lalo both feu and ust upped their programs. While you knoe adu and ue is as competitive as they come.

Admu had the biggest recruit last year in Amos. He was the best player in the u18 and actually played for men’s team.

Balogun is injured. I'm not saying that he will fix everything, but his size would've definitely helped during this preseason, would've probably resulted in a couple of wins but still far from being a contender this early.

Let’s face it. A good defensive FSA is the most important thing in the UAAP. Last year’s La Salle was the exception. But they had the next best thing, the best local defender in the league. I havent watched Ateneo much but for me Amos doesnt add much on thr defensive end. And he’s far from a Tamayo on the post. At this level Ballungay seemed to contribute over all. But lets see how the actual UAAP games.

I've personally heard ramblings within BEBOB and some former players aren't happy with Ateneo's recruitment as of late.
