He wasn't doubled much in the 4th. He mostly didn't even have the ball, it was Avramovic, who was playing Iso. And even, if he was guarded well, Serbia could have had few screens and created shots for Bogdan, who's great off ball player too. But strangely he was mostly standing still in the corner. He was too passive in any case.

Avramovic was the hot hand, and he didn't have intention passing that ball late. Again, if half of those open shots generated from Bogdan's gravity were made, no one would mention Bogdan being passive but playing smart basketabll.

Steph has that kind of gravity, but he's not standing still most of the time and it can't happen to him that he doesn't shoot in the entire q4. Bogdan's last shot was 15 minutes before the end. He didn't make Fg in second half.

However you look into it, he is the last reason to be called for this loss. Some other things didn't go well, and Dobric's injury didn't help us either. We had many chances to turn it around, but we didn't hit open shots. That's all you can ask for in such games.

Do you believe Germany would have won, if Schroder didn't make a single Fg in a second half? In the Final your best player should be doing something, if you want realistic chances.

He did. He created open shots. Guduric hiitting a completely open three generated by Bogdan after getting a steal was pretty realistic. Both Stefan and Nikola Jovic missed those shots too, Davidovac...The cause for loss is Germany playing better and us not making our pretty good chances. Bogdan is definitely not a scapegoat here.

Man, 1 steal and 1 open shot created and nothing else in last 7 minutes just isn't enough for the leader of the team. I like Bogdan very much but we have to be objective there, he didn't do enough, when it mattered most.

But even with how Bogdan ended up performing, they still had chances to get close and even win the game. I don't get this argument. Actually, the way Germany was playing they were giving the impression that if Dennis didn't hit his shots, someone else would step up.

Germany were controlling the game pretty well from the end of the 3rd and Serbia desperately needed Bogdan in that period. The opening was very small after Avramovic' heroics, Germany always looked in control.

You mean if something didn't happen and something else could have happened. A lot of ifs. :D

Bottom line is, Dennis preformed and Bogdan didn't. First is world champion and MVP other isn't.

Schroder is a world champion due to team performing well, not just him. If it was only up to Schroder, Germany would have been eliminated in 1/4 vs Latvia. German team did well, while Serbian didn't in this particular game. Looking for individual scapegoats in colective sports is ridiculous. Aside from that, Schroder is playing with Franz Wagner, it's little bit different when you can share responsibiltiy with such player and use his gravity.

... and great Final game. I started this conversation only because some people here want Guduric as scapegoat. Expectations were a bit different for Bogdan and other members of Serbian team.

No one is a scapegoat. Guduric had a really good tournament, especially in knockout stage. Expectations for this Serbian team and atmosphere in the media after all rejactions looked like they were sent in Manila like tourists. So, everything turned out just great for this team.

I agree with that. I was disagreeing with the statement that "Bogdan didn't show up, how could they have won?" and I was saying that they were actually close. I was expecting more from him but honestly he was being guarded super well and the others didn't manage to make a big play.

Really nice Mundobasket overall.

I named Guduric because Fener things, but it's obvious that he is useless in big NT games too

Other then that I agree that Bogdan 2nd half was strange at least

Or we can look from different angle, what would have happened if Schroeder didn't score Fg in second half and Bogdan has been great? Nobody knows, but more than not teams with leaders playing great win games.

First of all, thank you guys! Today might be the best sport-related day in my life. Major kudos to Serbia! Overcoming so many obstacles and still fighting for the World Cup Title till the end might be as much of a cinderella story as Germany and Latvia are praised to be. It was joyful to watch, how nicely the Serbian team congratulated our team right after the game, that was class. I was lacking class as aspected during the game, that's something I knew in advance, but after someone was accusing the refs of shipping us, I threw my principles away and started to spam this thread during the game. Calling Avramovic a clown, is not nice, that is for sure. I won't lose any sleep over though, as I can't stand players faking like this. Yes, I might lack some objectivity, and in this certain situation Schroeder made a dirty play creating contact with his leg, but to pretend to be kicked at the head lacks sportsmanship. At some point, maybe after I watched the game in relive without overboarding emotions, I will come back to discuss about the FIBA refs. Something has to be done. Until that, I will praise our complete team, our hidden heroes as Bonga and Voigtmann. Both played a complete game, offensively and defensively, I haven't seen this coming. Not sure what else I can contribute to this game, the stories after the win were way more beautiful than this great performance on the court. The interviews, the celebration of Coach Herbert and all players involved, even Kraemer, as a German you have to love this team. The chemistry is unique spoken of my German perspective, how they treat all the people from the media, the staff behind the team, how the players outside the rotation enjoy to be part of this team, it is a joy. Same as the interview of the parents of the Wagner brothers. Sooo modest and kind, no wonder Franz and Moe turned into super humble, reflective and nice human beings. F*cking Andy Obst and Thiemann who I have seen playing for Bambergs cooperational team in the third and second division, hugging each other right after the game, it gave me goosebumps. Thiemann was not even supposed to become a first divisional player in Germany, he is the result of worth ethic only. Obst was talented, but it was a long and difficult way for him to get on this level. During an internships some years ago I was able to watch him in practice every single day and I can say, it's no coincidence he developed into some player receiving MVP chants. Always the first, always the last in practice. He is a great guy as well, making constantly fun of himself, being nice to everyone. This WC title is not special because of the outcome, it's special because of the journey. As the parents of the Wagner brothers said, the golden medal is glittering nicely, but the thing what matters to them is the sparkle in their sons happy eyes. There is cinderella everywhere and I am going to enjoy this. I wish you all a great evening and thank you guys, for you nicely comments after the game.

KLASSE!

I have nothing to add. These scenes were amazing...

Oh wait I have something to add: thank you Davis Bertans for missing THE shot.

Or we can look from different angle, what would have happened if Schroeder didn't score Fg in second half and Bogdan has been great? Nobody knows, but more than not teams with leaders playing great win games.

Individuals playing great have something to do with their teams playing great and having more advantages than disadvantages compared to the other team. Schroder had as his sidekick Franz Wagner (who is already better player than Schroder), while Bogdan doesn't even have a clear number 2 option on this Serbian team. That was clearly German advantage right from the start and Schroder and Wagner played of off each other perfectly. A luxury that Bogdan didn't have in this Serbian team. Bogdan kept the team afloat in the first half but unfortunately in this roster Serbian team doesn't have anyone as talented as Wagner right now. In spite of that, we had all the shots we wanted at the end, but just missed them. This game wasn't decided on Bogdan/Schroder matchup, but rather on overall advantages of German team (added by some unlucky injuries on Serbian team).

In other words, more complete teams win games in most cases.

Kudos to Latvia these last few months! A country with a population of less than 1.8 million but they've really excelled on the world stage lately. Known for decades as a hockey power, the Latvians took Bronze at the IIHF World Championships four months ago. And now this week they've taken fifth at the FIBA World Cup!

Congratulations to Germany, and to the German fans, especially our long-time member, Thiago94.

It seems like the 2020s is your decade. Enjoy!

This is slightly irrelevant but I wouldn't call Latvia a hockey power. The did end up 3rd but this their only major success. They are in the top 10 though.

Since even as a winner I would like to join the whining. I cannot help but think that without the Lorenzo Brown ridiculous travesty we would be probably European AND world champion now.

You lost at the semifinal against Spain. You would have also needed to win France. The fact that you won them at group phase doesn't mean that you would have won them again at the final.
You can be happy the way it is. Remember that if it had not been for the last lost shot of the Latvians, there would have not been no victory against the USA at the semifinal and no gold medal. ;)
