All fil foreigners (dual citizenship holders ) require FIBA clearance prior to being fielded . (They are allocated a FIBA ID with a classification NP (if over 16) or local u16 )

if over 16 , only way to play as a local is previous FIBA tournament clearance or if new applicant sec general lettere for grant of exception

yes be prudent in that one at least reads and considers the explcit Exception guidelines on reasons criteria for grant

1 # of years residency
2. # of years domestic play
3. Age of acquiring citizenship and establishing residency

It's not prudent and disrespectful of the rules if one files Exception with zero of 1 and 2. And fails to respect 3. The player is already 25 when passport and residency is established.

Adding insult to injury is lobbying for the application by ranting to the press and everything and complaining about other nations...(they considered the rules when they got Exceptions we didn't but are like a loose cannon Tira ng tira without respect of the process and rules

If you don't like the rules (SEA or FIBA) go through the process of policy improvements in the right forum., change the rules there with out making noise. . NOt just prior to a tournament and ranting to the press about mercenaries, by that definition then every NP is a mercenary. So Qunito should say we only use 1 mercenary, while you use 5 or something

Having experice in policy creation, the things being called out by Filipinos on individual laws of land and entncity association are so way off and ignorant and naive of the basis of sound international policies

The right level of restrictions one should argue for are around age of cuttoff, # of years of residency, relationship with a citizen ( how many generations removed are acceptable). # of NP. These are sound good factors to consider for changing the level of settings of rules , not what Filipinos are ranting about. (Filipino blood stuff)

Arguing about blood entnicity is like raising it in eligibility rule changes in NBA via the CBA or in each of the national leagues.. this is so stupid.

Student council? Joke. Everyone's gotta start somewhere.

Remove either principle on citizenship, then basketball itself isn't a fair game. Who was that Chinese IBNer years ago who made the syllogism on running for Philippine President with the FIBA eligibility rules when it was new? Take out everyone who couldn't possibly run for President, who will Gilas be left with? What qualifies to be natural-born? Heck, FPJ nearly got disqualified to run for President just because his mother was an American... does that make someone like Bolick or Perez not a natural-born citizen? As shallow as that sounds, there are countries who will never bother to understand our own laws on who can only be a naturalized citizen and who can acquire a Philippine passport because their own laws are completely different.

The fact is as far as a lot of other nationalities are concerned, the only thing that matters is the flag on the jersey. It's pathetic.

Against Singapore, Gilas is playing well. Typical of Chot teams, play well against inferior teams but lose their balls against superior opposition. Tab's teams play hard regardless of opponent superiority.

Still far from Indo and Thai outside shooting even if they are just against Singapore Team C.

Their shooting sucks. No other way to put it.

Thailand got 156 points, Indonesia got 141 points. Probably the most they ever scored in the SEAG. Meantime....

The best we could muster is 94 and 105 against Malaysia Team B and Singapore Team C. How the mighty has fallen.

Good job Choke Reyes!

Opppssss.... Don't forget no.4!!! MONEY!!! Federation needs to pay FIBA for placement fee for every player wants to be exempted as local player.... SBP before pays more than PHP 1 million for Chris Newsome's eligibility to be exempted... Same also for Vietnam's Justin Young, Thai's duo of Federick Lish and Moses Morgan, Indonesia's Brandon Jawato, Taipei's Muhhamad Gariaga, Greece's Nick Calathes and more....

What he listed was the citeria as per FIBA. What you are saying here is more of process. Totally different.

Hoping for a Phi-Cambodia rematch in the finals. It would be very unfortunate of us if both Brownlee and Perez plays the way they did the first time. I feel the complexion of the game would’ve had been more competitive if we didn’t miss a lot of gimmies early.

But first things first. Both teams should take of their respective semis assignments.

iI actually wouldn’t mind this rule to be the norm for SEA. I’d rather have this than Gilas cruising the whole tourney and facing a worthy opposition every now and then.

Brownlee has been a disappointment so far. Good job Choke Reyes!

Please confirm if the criteria also applies to Ange’s situation? thank you!

Gilas weakness is shooting (3pts and FT’s). Cambodia exposed us big time given the fact the team is very strong on paper. The PBA style of defense (referring to pba pros) would not work against Thailand and Indonesia.

Indonesia vs Thailand is interesting, which team (CAM/PHI) they want to avoid in the semis. if i were THA or INA I'll go for the win. i'm not saying our gilas is easier to beat, but they have better chance. our team is still lacking of chemistry, opponents should take that advantage.

Thai has the higher chance of defeating Gilas.

PBA defense is usually more of physicality (sometimes leading to fouls), less on good rotations and hustling to find their man. Only a few teams (MERALCO, TNT, Ginebra, Magnolia) work on their rotations. Heck, UP, Ateneo, and La Salle rotate better and hustle harder on defense.

If Indonesia (or any SEA nations) can qualify atleast in FIBA Asia cup consistently then most of here will admit they are already catching up w/ Filipinos... They only qualified last cycle because they were host and given automatic slot... The real test for them (And Thailand) is how to make it to the FIBA Asia cup main tournament w/o hosting it.... Winning SEAG is not the true testament that they are already best in ASEAN hoops.... China didn't take serious East Asian Games basketball event (Taiwan is the current champions), But they are considered the best team in Asia, In Gulf games, Kuwait is the current champions but they can't even qualify for Asia cup qualifiers this edition, In Arab Games, Lebanon won the title but Tunisia is miles better than them in FIBA recognition and last one, Team USA are not winning most of Pan American basketball events there.... Regional games are not true testament of who is the best team in the region... Even teams like Indonesia, Thais and even Cambodia knows it... They can't do this sh*t in FIBA competitions that the real battle is there and best of the best teams are looking forward in every FIBA competitions....

anlayo na naman, nakapunta pa sa US LOL

I’m talking about the Indo basketball programme (playerse selection, NP process, etc) not about their chances of getting into higher level in Asia etc. It would take time as long as the fed and other stakeholders are on the same page.

Be humble and respectful, if getting a SEA games gold is already achievement for other SEA countries, so be it. It always one step at a time. Don’t put your bragging rights just to justify their still/not catching up or no international exposure, etc. that’s their problem, don’t dipped yourself into it.

So why did we beat Jordan in November 2022

lol nice whataboutism. Palestine is superior than any SEA teams. Losing to them is nothing to be ashamed of. Chot should be banned from coaching the national team period. He doesn't deserve to be there and we don't need him.

Losing to the lowest seeded team after winning silver on the last Fiba Asia is not what we should expect. I believe that cambodia team can beat that Palestine team as they are imports from different leagues.

Noted with thanks IPC. BTW, Are the sea games refs applying the fiba calls etc? Thanks.

TBH, it’s really ugly that we’re throwing criticism to our RP5 team. I don’t blame the other posters here coz it’s fair assessment. You really know what’s the best for our team.

We should be cheering them for this seagames (the “REAL team” that was supposed to assemble prior to world cup and assuming cambo complied to the basketball court standards LOL) but it really hard coz of the POLITICS surrounding the SBP and other parties involved.

After that 2019 WC campaign I thought the SBP would be serious in trusting Tab’s plan. But i guess the politics in ph basketball is like “game of thrones” that someone needs that power, etc.

I brainstormed with some of my colleagues that RP5 would have the best lineup that would ever be assemble in ph basketball history. We have the futures like Kai, Edu, Dalph, and Carl. College ball competition is defensively better than PBA.

2021 - It was healthy discussion in IBN when Tab coached a group of players to compete in qualifiers and OQT. I thought SBP would have lot of plans (fuck Covid of course) for the team. And then, Chot and his son returned back to RP5 coaching. Hehehe

Fast-forward to the present, the basketball gods are not loving us unconditionally LOL:
  1. The hilarious (LOL) case of Kai. He was treated like rockstar and most people thought he had best chance of getting drafted/played in NBA. Cocoymartin and others were branded as a troll/hater when they exposed ewp and its connections. Kai got undrafted and his camp is planning to play him in SL. Good luck kai, ask papa ervin to cut your connections with ewp lol
  2. AJ Edu was hampered by multiple knee injuries but bravely played in his previous NCAA season. The only question: Is he healthy and ready to play for Gilas?
  3. Ange made an impact presence in 2021 RP5 NT but SBP didn’t utilise him in other fiba tournaments. I hope his injuries are real and praying to have speed recovery.
  4. SBP prioritising PBA over KBL and Bleague boys in terms of creating pool and other plans. PBA pros are probably the real deal for them.
I’m not expecting any changes in our basketball landscape soon or near future. It’s always unclear like water sewage. The Pinoy brand of basketball, you must hate it and sometimes you must love it. LOL. This would be my last post for now as I’m planning to work on my competencies to become EA chartered member. Good luck RP5!

Expect what? Losing is just normal part of the game, upsets happen all the time and like I said the Palestinians and those lower tier Arabs countries are extremely competitive, they can pull upsets on good a night. But getting trashed and losing to a Cambodian with Chot's supposedly "redeem team" is embarrassing. Stop with this whataboutism it is not a legitimate argument, you're just deflecting the real issue here, Chot is incompetent as a coach and a program director.

As for the refs, I think they might be applying FIBA calls, although I felt it was 5v8 when we played against Cambodia. I can't comment on the officiating outside of that opinion.

To be fair angges conditioning since 2022 isnt the best from a potential summer league invitee in 2021 to a guy whose basketball career after ateneo is in question parang douthit pero at 24.. he wouldve been a help on dubai diba kaso na dengue..the guy cant catch a break ika nga

watch them have stagnant your turn my turn offense once their opponent is actually good, don't be surprised if we dont even get a medal
