2023 SEA Games (Cambodia)

I really remember 2005 sea games when we were suspended by fiba, despite that we can still organize a basketball event and chose not to to comply with fiba..

isnt short sighted for me.. veterans mixed with young guys did we argue argentina with their undersized led by 40 year old sola when they almost won the gold last world cup..Whats short sighted is bringing brownlee and kouame together and can be arguable as sabi nga nila angge is locally bred na..

Mabawi lang ng Gilas ang basketball gold medal sa SEA Games, happy na ang PBA & SBP. Napaka babaw naman ng kaligayahan nila!!!

Trans: SBP & PBA are shortsighted

tbh, I don’t mind if Gilas gets the seagames gold or not and saying it’s fool’s gold (it’s may be an insult to Thai and Indo) etc. I know some fans are divided regarding the players selection blah blah but IT IS WHAT IT IS. SPB, pba and other parties involved are messing up the PH basketball (the worst was last year when chot returned back to gilas). Unless there’s new direction that would bring Gilas to an elite level.

So assuming that SBP (either MVP or SMC) would nốt prioritise the sea games basketball, are you happy that PH (with the help of BAP) would send MBPL / Filbasket team to this event coz it fool’s gold after all? While other teams would have competitive team to beat that PH team.

and that’s the crucial year when the middle east teams - Jordan, Iran and Lebanon were catching up.

I had no qualms whatsoever about that “Passport only policy” that the host nation implemented on this edition of the SEA Games that leads to Cambo’s 3x3 ruling against our team. For me it’s all about closing the gap and make the basketball landscape on this part of the world more exciting and interesting moving forward because this is the main reason why our basketball stakeholders hasn’t had the motivation to oblige to form a team on a long term basis and just rely only on one week full training before the start of the actual SEA games tournament because as far as our basketball stakeholders are concern Asean neighbors only had little resistance and challenges for them therefore theirs no need to take so much effort as far as longer training are concern.

I would be happy if we just send promising young amateurs or young pros to the SEA Games. Yung mga tipong Mason Amos, Mike Philipps, Seven Gagate, Luis Pablo, Carl Tamayo, Chico Briones, Francis Lopez, Caleum Harris. Or a mix of pros & amateurs, say 6 amateurs & 6 pros.

Excited for tonight's game vs. a soup up Cambodia-Africa team. If this is the same Cambodia team from past editions of SEA Games, then I won't bother watching it at all becoz I know Cambodia will have a zero chance of winning & it is going to be a sure massacre.

Hope youngsters Mike Philipps, Mason Amos & Jerom Lastimosa get adequate playing time tonight.

Gilas wins by more than 20 my guess. Lack of bench will undo them.

Well in Philippine basketball, 25 yrs old is considered young
Notice that at age 25, Lastimosa is not yet a pro.

25-30 is Prime age for basketball. Why is he not a pro yet? Wasting his youth. In NBA even have 18yo.

Same sentiments. Let them spend ridiculous amounts for a band aid solution that would benefit us more than they would. Habitual use of multiple mercenaries would not only cap their locals but disrupt cohesion as well when transitioning to FIBA sanctioned competitions wherein they could only field one. All these while providing our teams a nice workout.

Too many factors but opportunities at the PH collegiate scene is a major one, and also its age limit (25?). Aside from getting a degree from a premier university upon exhausting their 5 playing years (and graduating of course), top young guns also get to receive perks and allowances along the way that shames what the PH minor basketball leagues can offer (well, at least from the stories I read here).

Did Pat Aquino complain to media about the conditions? Isipin mo how his players will react if he did , they will say coach , hundi ba safe ?

while at that age, Luka Doncic was already named to multiple All Nba 1st teams, Giannis was named NBA MVP for the 1st time at age 24, and has basically won a slew of individual awards prior that age. Tatum also had won numerous all nba citations prior turning 25.

I hope the trend of playing abroad will eliminate eventually college teams super maximizing eligibility

I’m hoping Asean nation would have binding agreement to sports discipline like basketball to impose an age limit: let’s say U22 or U25 (as long as it ranged to that age but not over 30). It’s an option but it could sieved the best players in countries like us, Thai and Indo. And agreement that would allow ineligibles (with country passports) and NP player(s).

if devin goh has the height and skills like kai sotto, I wouldn’t be surprised if Singapore would send him abroad. Afaik, he joined pro as early as 16yo. Correct me if I’m wrong.
