Time for our boys to show what they got. This will be our last important tournament before the big one.

Some concerns, PBA schedule plus Ange's surgery might mean we have no naturalized player if circumstances dont align. Also no BLeague boys, at least for Division 1 due to an ongoing season.

EDIT PBA Accommodated the SEA Games

Looks like the PBA changed its schedule to accommodate the sea games.

Thailand will be much stronger with Lamb will coming back alongside Holder, Lish and Morgan.. although big man concerns will hunt Thais, as only Jakrawan are only their legit big man (too soft in Asian standards)... While Indonesia already starting preparing for their 1st ever title defense... They planning to bring back again DMX and Bolden for SEAG plus they have some new recruits to strengthen their team... Vietnam, Malaysia and Singapore are improving too, While the host Cambodia might surprise anyone, since they are the host, they are recruiting players with Khmer (Cambodian heritage) blood foreign based players... Hoping for Myanmar, Timor Leste, Laos and Brunei to join... Joining tournaments are just for winning, representing a country is already a big achievement...

Checked the academic schedule of Toledo and CSU Bakersfield. Last day of finals is May 5 for Toledo so AJ Edu is unlikely but possible. Dalph Panopio/CSU though is May 19 so probably not.

Classes end April 30 at GCU so DMX should be available.

Chot should show that he learned from his tactical and strategic mistakes last SEA Games. Cone should help in that.

Player selection must be good too. Last May, we were good enough to win, but half the roster was poor.

I think it's time we gave Carl and Oftana some burn and opportunities to shine here if they're available.

Can U-25 PHL NT beat Indonesia even with Bolden and DMX playing? Hard, but can be done, right?

Speaking of DMX, kid sits out his Freshman year and will be playing his first competitive game in Cambodia since Asia Cup last August

https://gculopes.com/news/2022/11/7/mens-basketball-carr-xzavierro-to-redshirt.aspx

Grand Canyon men's basketball announced that freshmen Derrick Michael Xzavierro and Isaiah Carr will redshirt the 2022-23 season to continue their development.

The Lopes officially open their season on Monday night against Montana State.

Xzavierro, a 6-foot-10 forward from NBA Global Academy, hails from Jakarta, Indonesia, and is the country's first Division I basketball scholarship player.

"Derrick is going to be a fantastic player at GCU," Drew said. "He was not able to be in the states this summer, and now this will give him more time to adjust to a different culture and playing style. The future for Derrick is extremely bright."

Carr, a 7-foot forward/center from Las Cruces, New Mexico, was rated as the top player in his state's high school senior class.

"Isaiah is very young for his class, being only 18 years old," GCU head coach Bryce Drew said. "This year will allow his body to develop and adjust to college life. He has great hands and touch around the rim and will be a very good player we can rely on."

With a redshirt season, Xzavierro and Carr will not suit up for the Lopes this season but will retain all four years of eligibility, starting with the 2023-24 season.

Schonny Winston replaces Thirdy in this since Thirdy aged out

Malaysia reported that they will now hiring a Naturalized players to strengthen their national team named Amir Williams (6'10 or 6'11) and Henry Iloka (6'8 or 6'9)... Good development for Malaysian basketball... We might see one of them in next year's 2nd round of FIBA Asia cup pre - qualifiers, It's that because only NP will allowed only to play in every game....

Henry Iloka from De La Salle Araneta University of NAASCU and Manila Chooks of Chooks To Go Pilipinas 3x3.

Here’s my fantasy line-up for the coming SEA Games(Assuming FIBA rules on eligibility will not be use and the committee are more lenient as far as Passport holders are concern):

1. Robert Bolick
2. Mason Amos
3. Francis Lopez
4. Kai Baluggay
5. Chris Koon
6. Jason Perkins
7. Kevin Quiambao
8. Justine Brownlee or AK34
9. Michael Philips
10. Brandon Rosser
11. Calvin Oftana or Dave Ildefonso(toss-up)
12. Rhenz Abando

Reserves: Justine Arana, Abu Tratter, Ben Philips, Chris Newsome, Sedric Barefield, Remy Martin, Roosevelt Adams, AJ Edu, Ron Harper Jr.(PH Pass holder?)

I think Cambodia will be more lenient, as they would be sending again their UCBA players, and their also actively recruiting Cam-Ams for their first Women's 5x5 team since 1974

I think we go FIBA eligible plus Brownlee as this will basically be the start of our World Cup prep.

I'm happy that Cambodia are now taking the sport of basketball seriously... Hoping that basketball will grow there even further same as now with Vietnam... In the past, those countries will ignore this sport and not include in the event (I heard one of the host before in the SEAG excluded basketball in the list due to lack of infrastructure)... If a country will host this kind of event and will not include basketball in the event then much better not to host the whole event too.... In 2019 SEAG, Philippines tried to host football event even that the sport is not huge in that country and their arena is not good in terms of FIFA standards.. Imagine if Philippines declined to include their favorite sport football to the event?

Edit: I search and it's Laos who declined to include basketball in the SEAG in 2009 due to lack of infrastructure... That's nuts!!! Hosting a big event but not include one of the popular sport event in a multi sporting event?

Gilas senior men's national basketball team seeks vengeance at the 2023 sea games in Cambodia.

Full strength gilas will kill the competition.

Uh.... Dalph has not played yet this year for Bakersfield so I am not sure what is going on. AJ Edu is in his 4th year at Toledo and not getting a lot of playing time, but he has been hurt the past 2 years it seems (he only played 4 games in 2 years)

If we are looking at USA division 1 someone needs to get Jarod Lucas a passport. Kid could come in the PBA right now and would probably be the best 3 point shooter in the league and get 20 points a game.

If Choke is still the coach, always have doubts to save your sanity.
