To stop playin Zone D when the opponent is waxing hot from the outside.
Watch his U16/U18 teams. His tactics are basically the same as his dad’s.

DDO that's too reliant on isolations, zoning when opponent is shooting well from 3, letting penetration come too easily. Oh, boy.

Let's just hope he learned from last year.

Here you go.

Irus Chua PG - 5'11
Joaquin Gabriel Ludovice G- 5'9
Kiefer Louie Alas G - 6'2

Kurt Nathan Velasquez PG 5'11
Samuel Alegre G- 6'1
Cletz David Amos G- 6'1
Edryn Morales F - 6'4
Bonn Ervin Daja C - 6'4

Fuckin Josh Reyes is the coach, and looks like he is planning to put a security agency with the overflowing number of guards at his disposal.

I don’t even want to look at China’s roster. Lmao

Thank goodness we only have Kazakhstan and Malaysia as the other opponents.

Asa pa. With this guard heavy lineup, its obvious he's going to DDO his opponents to death.

DDO's not necessarily a bad thing. But, the Reyes version of DDO relies a bit too much on isolations, like I said, and PnRs, while the others are spectators. I've seen other versions of DDO where you dribble drive or execute a PnR off the catch, not just from isolations. It takes less effort to drive, and saves energy for defense.

Yeah, DDO works if you have the right players and proper execution.

We obviously don’t.

The Reyes DDO is basically “High PnR then bara bara as the 2nd/3rd options”.

The 7-footer of China plays for the Joe Tsai Foundation. Tsai is the billionaire owner of the Brooklyn Nets (also co-founder of Alibaba). He set up a foundation to promote sports.

When it comes to philanthropists, China has a lot of guys that can outspend most countries, but interestingly it still hasn't translated to success.

Like what I said before, country's teams tend to mimic their personality. I think the basketball program is too "factory-like." They're applying factory concepts to players which limits dynamism.

Again, who are the tall guys who are available and at the National team's disposal? Not trying to defend Coach, but merely pointing out that this is the best available talent.

I'm not going to put Andewil Yap, Deydi De Ocampo or even Owen Calanasan because these tall guys are raw! Also, the other taller players pulled out because of various reasons: money, logistics, school adjustment.

I get it that it's frustrating that it looks like we can't form a competitive national team, but it is what it is. It's as if we can magically produce a team of 6'4 and up players like Lithuania 16U. It's not in our (asian) genes and oftentimes nutrition, or rather the lack of it, plays a role in the (deficient) height of our players.

I attended from day 1 of the tryouts. Wala talagang malalaki in this age group.

I guess the best we can do is play positionless basketball so small guys are not trained for big positions just by default.

why can't people accept the fact the pinoys are a midget race?

that's why i really consider myself lucky to be 6'2 :)

The 2 bigs for this squad, are they Fil-Am / Fil-Can Nation boys? I wonder why this batch, it seems a lot less discovery from that pipeline ( if they are indeed from that Alex Cabganot Firm )

Tumakbo basketball club. Same stable that produced Dwight Ramos, Shane Tuano, Calimag brothers and Jacob Cortez.

whoa. what happened to FilAm nation? They delivered Zain, Calleum, Bayla and Zonov last time around, and the girls over at Women's U-16 and U-18. They dont like Josh?

Are we really still into height obsession? I thought all of us are praising and glorifying Japan? Dba maliit din sila? but they are well trained and skilled.. that is the most important thing..

china is china.. they are always focused on height no matter what..

if you see the other line-ups hindi naman nagkalayo heights.. china lang talaga is being china..

skill and talent above all!

Yes. Reality is on average we’re a short people. You can’t reasonably expect every batch to have tall prospects. This is why we need to maximize the exposure to modern ball for the few 6’7 and up kids we get.
