japan can’t score with that 3-2 zone of ours.. alas with all around game.. 29 pts, 9 rebounds and 3 assists

I see this becoming a staple of our future NT defensive playbooks.

Korea loved running the Zone. I guess it’s our turn.

Credit to Josh. Whatever blunders he made last year, he made up for them this year. Came prepared, was tactically astute.

And the players, man. Good effort.

I hope we can get some size next year.

It would be sad to see our 6’6 guys go up against 6’9+ big men in Tuerkiye

I hope the U17 WC exposes our players to American and Euro scouts.

It’s a chance for guys like Alas to get Div I or EuroLeague offers.

Hello FIBA u17 Worlds for our boys

Congrats but that's a whole different animal. If emotions prevail, the personnel will remain the same and all the boys will go to the U-17, but if logic, PHL needs to upgrade in some positions.

And that zone is how you run zone. You move to contest threats. Not how Josh ran it last year, and not how SMB run it, which is too static.

That was the complain about all Reyes-coached squads, lacking in defensive sets. Good thing they adjust,.

Kahit dalawang legitimate 6'7 guys lang tulad nina Zain at Caelum last year.

We just need enough size to not get killed on the low post.

Chot was too NBA-centric for me. Loved 1-on-1 plays and man-to-man defense.

Not gonna work in today’s game.

Man! I am really happy…that defense they showed us in their bounce-back game is paying dividends! These kids have a lot of grit and fight in them. We are decided underdogs against the aussies BUT…stranger things have happened. At any rate, if we get a great shooting night and keep the score close, maybe down by less than 10 in the 4Q…well, I’d say the crowd can tip the scales a little bit in our favor. Fingers and toes crossed!

We really need to keep Aus off the paint and rebounding. As you said need Korea like shooting if not better. No way Alas can do what he did today against Aus

do we even have legit bigs who are U17?

Legit tall, but legit skillswise? Remains to be seen:

6’10” Owen Calanasan, 14yo
6’9” Andwil Yap, 14 yo
6’7” Tyler Reyes, 13 yo (son of former PBA player Jayr Reyes )
6’7” Deydi deOcampo,14-15 yo( Ranidel's spawn)
6’7” Ram Sharma, 15 yo (Carlo Sharma's )
6’ 7” JohnRenie Tacogon,15yo

When BG defense extend beyond the arc it forces Japan's big man to come out of the 6 to 10 ft area under the rim to make a pick and that gives our boys enough room to box or grab an errant rebound, but once in awhile Josh reverts back to that CTC, World Cup defense of pack the paint and that Japan big man wrecks havoc inside. I'm convinced that, Josh's assistants have alot of input in the offense those extra passes to free up our shorter shooters from taller defenders is not Josh's offense and less dribble drive too.

These kids are maybe at least 2 years aways to be legit skillwise at least.

What about the Fil-Kiwi 6'8" Jireh Tumaning? We need at least 2 players above 6'7" to have a decent showing in the u17. Their skills don't matter that match since their role in Josh's team is just to provide picks.
