with PBA players nope, we will be behind by 20. with Tab and his choice players, it can be done.

Crazy to see how Romero is being bullied. Based of some of the comments he didnt have an easy childhood . Older brother died, dad was away from the family due to court cases. The kid hasnt smiled at all in any of the pictures . Whether his dad paid for a slot or not his kid shouldnt be bullied like this or any of the other kids.

I saw really no talent to be included in the team. But maybe the kid tried so hard to be in the team and did everything in the training. Thats why I dont believe as long as their is evidence to show their was wrong doing. Lets not do profiling of people, because we might hurt people that don't deserve it.

I honestly don’t think this under 16 job is a hot commodity for top coaches.

The top college coaches wouldn’t prioritize this given the weird uaap schedule . Historically i don’t think u16 coaching job has been a hotspot for coaches.

If anything, It is just a good way of assuring fil foreigns to be eligible under hagop rules.

Ex: Caelum or Harper (sana)

But yep, U18 is probably more serious, bali next step nun is if they can be elevated to seniors gilas

The thing is good recruiting of Fil foreigners for BG can be done regardless of who the coach is, it would be inaccurate to claim that the recruitment of fil foreigners (Harris etc) is attributed to who was appointed BG coach.
Fil am select and NBTC would still recruit regardless who the coach is. Note Fil am select is the NBTC representative of the US east coast .
This 4th.of July will the Global games in Virginia Beach

suddenly felt guilty calling the kid emo-anime and emo-kpop

edit: this is the last time im calling him that

Hopefully, the rest will be man enough to admit it.

I've reiterated that we should remember the U16 team is a team of KIDS and keep criticisms constructive. Skills and abilities aside, mentally and emotionally... these kiids are far from being fully developed. I know it's too much to ask of a public forum, but those mature enough should speak up more when stuff like this happens. Keep the below the belt comments towards the grown-ups.

Sandy shouldve guided Josh, sandy was never given a chance and cholo Villanueva and Charles Tiu shouldve joined the trip

Oliver, should have been there,Jr seems to warm up more,on actually letting him call the plays.

they should have just hired a foreign coach for the U16 team then have Josh Reyes as the understudy, but no the Reyeses wants the limelight

If either Sandy or Oliver with him,he will defer the play calling to either one of them,I still don't know why Jong is not even with him either.

It was a “decent” finish, at least according to SBP. Goes to show the standards they’ve set.

Anyways, we never had these many shooters in our team, 4 of them pretty reliable—Competente, Konov, Bahay and Porter. Bayla can also shoot, even Mahmood. Simply tightening up the rotation (spot up minutes only to our 9-12th guys if the team is keen on exposing (pun intended) everyone, could’ve made a difference. But that’s with the benefit of hindsight, of course.

I hope the trend continues for the men’s team, too, almost everyone can shoot. With how the game is played today, we can’t afford to have too many non-shooters at the same time out there, esp in FIBA games.

They don't want to hurt the Reyes' feelings. The SBP should have sacked Chot from any NT duties when Gilas performance really dived deep in 2017. From Silver medaliats to near bottom of top 10. Chot never recovered after RDO, Hontiveros, Pingris retired from the NT.

Alas, looks like Chot occupies a higher position and is a better ass kisser to MVPs ass.

Same is probably with his son.

Wala pa ang China & Chinese Taipei nyan. Imagine if China & CT were there. We might not even make it to the quarterfinals pag minalas pa tayo ng kunti.

We all know that China is always a powerhouse team, may it be in the seniors & even in the youth level. CT isn't a pushover as well in the youth level. If we had faced CT in a crucial game tapos minalas tayo ng kunti, pwede tayong madisgrasya which would cost us even our quarterfinals bid.

With Choke Reyes as Gilas senior team coach, the game vs. Australia would be over by the end of the 1st quarter.

which is a good segway for me to ask you, any new NZ discovery for BG had NBTC push thru last year?

The most disappointing I guess is Nieto. He is a co-captain ball. For his age, he is a tall PG. But his shooting is atrocious. He seems to have decent BBIQ but he doesnt seem to have a single above average skill that he brings to the table. Matt was a better defender and passer though just as bad a 3 pt shooter. Mike was a better shooter but at the forward spot.

I cover the Australian state of Queensland as well, this is where the Amos brothers ( Mason and CJ ) are from, they're actually of kiwi parents.. to answer question will be having our global games in Oct , i've done a quick scan.. no one really stands out... but you never know.

i agree with your assessment on the skills side. I dont know why you are raising the co-captain ball thing. the captain ball(sama na natin co-captain) is suppose to lead the team. that doesnt necessarily mean stat wise. Jolas was the captain ball of te grand slam Alaska team. he was not the best player on the team. Johnny A is and Bong Hawkins and Duremdes were both better than Jolas. but Jolas was able pull the team together and keep them communicating with each other.

that said, I didnt see Nieto do anything like that. actually I didnt see anyone from gilas youth try to talk to each other when they were on the floor. but yeah, you can be captain ball and be the 12th man on the bench.

decent bbiq? but he is a turnover machine.

I think Chio is also in consideration. His dad is mum but I think a Gilas call up isn’t far fetched. Kid is solid and he’s a bonafide two way player.

I agree!! the kid is very good, very strong and I think he is a fighter. I hope he gets the call. By the way he is very familiar with Amos. I saw some vids were they played together. S if Amos will be in that pool I hope Chio will be in that pool too.

Based on my observations among these kids in U16. Some based on stats, but heavily on eye test.

These are the kids I think can potentially be considered in Gilas Seniors in the Future. (2027 or 2031 whatever)

Caelum Harris - He underperformed based on the expectations on him. But he still showed some potential. I like how he can still contribute to the game when he is not scoring. He can contribute all around. Probably another Jack N All Player. He needs to strengthen his mental strength and his majurity though.

Alex Konov - We waited and we were eager to see what he can bring to the table as he is the tallest in the team at 6'7-6'8 ish player who can shoot from the outside. He didnt shoot well in first few games, but at the latter, he kinda adjusted, so the stats may not show how good a shooter he is. Nice thing though is that he showed that he is not soft, and can also battle and finished inside the paint.

Jaycob Bayla - At 6'4, he can be developed as a Combo Guard. (His natural Pos overseas). He also have long arms if I am not mistaken. He is a very good perimeter defender in what Ive seen. And he can contribute on offense too. Needs to improve his playmaking and ball handling though.

Zain Mahmood - He is good because he knows how to use his heft and huge body. But if he plays like a Big, he is really undersized. As he is like a 6'7ish Hefty Traditional Big who can shoot. I am kinda 50-50 actually about him. But yeah, for now let him be included.

Competente is the best shooter for our U16. However at 6'2 at SG, it will be tough for him to be even considered. But who knows. He may replaced the heading role.

Well he knows the things he needs to do. The right pass etc. When to shoot. Unfortunately he cant shoot. The guy was appointed captain ball. I guess he looked like he knew what he was doing in practice and tuneups. But it turns out he was almost useless in actual games.
