At least he is a decent player. I never heard of Panlillio ever again after that stint..

Most people including me gave him a pass at the time because the team was somewhat made it to the worlds and that his father wasn't a widely known d!ck yet.

Yup the team got a lot of buzz with them finishing second despite the absense of top u16 (born 1997) players Kobe Paras and Mark Dyke, two played in u18 team in 2014 in QAtar (the 2 best players of that team) but never got to play for world cup in Dubai..

The fact that Kobe and Dyke made the U18 and not the u16 is a headscratcher if they were indeed eligible.

Yup Panlilio was a non contributor in the world cup. It was strange because we didnt have bigs. Dyke or Kobe could have helped. I dont remember each and every player but Panlilio stood out in my mind because he was the biggest guy in the bench and we were the smallest team in the competition.

In the Philippines absolutely this is what really happens , you would have to be naive and living under a rock not ot realize what drives things in the Philippines to make things happen.
No misinformation whatsoever, and you would be naive if you have to ask for verification proof to know this. Having to show proof is exactly part of the problem, it's a cultural thing and one of the characteristics of a corrupt society.
You realize the norm in other societies is the mere bad impression is grounds to prohibit such set ups , that is why relatives cannot work in the same company. It's bad practice that leads to corruption.
Likewise a corporate manager sponsor cannot be the head of a federation, only in the Philippines, really!

To be fair to @zairex Kobe Paras was not available for the U17 Worlds. While Navarro just arrived in the Philippines and entered San Beda. Navarro was really raw and it took him two years in Team B of San Beda to develop.

However this “palakasan”, “padrino” and political patronage really happens. It is part of our culture for the longest time.

I agree there are a lot of players better than the Panlilio kid. But its the decision of the coach and team management to include him for the U17 Worlds.

Lets compare the members of that U17 team? All played in college except Panlilio right? Lets just admit that Panlilio was not any good. You harp on Dario but he played in college and the PBA. I think of all the members of the u17 Panlilio had the most questionable credentials. And it showed when he played. I dont know if there were other available bigs but it boggles the mind to think that he was the best available big at that time. Same as how Santi is playing so far. I hope the guy proves us wrong though.

Josh appointment as BG coach coincided with Chot's appointment as program director of all Gilas operations. That is already bad practice, simply because of perceived conflict of interest. Just say if you don't understand why this wrong already. And that explains everything.

I already said he wasn't that good. But if the logic stand then would you want to replace Dario with Kobe especially we had alot of PG and Kobe will be able to defend bigs and get rebounds. Why not also Michael Dela Cruz or Go. Would Kobe better at that time. If Kobe was available why not replace others also or maybe their is a reason.
