2022-2023 NBA Season

Jokic and Denver is a testament on how to really dominate perimeter oriented and small ball teams. They also proved that you could win games through scoring inside pts rather than relying on 3s. This Denver team would be intact next year and might possibly be multiple champions. This offseason would be a season of hoarding really big and lengthy centers. You cant stop jokic with mere 6'10 and below players even if they would be too athletic. Giannis' bucks was also built to play big and this has become a trend on some of the most successful teams this season.

In the end, skills and bball IQ will always find its ways to excel even if the player lacks athleticism. Hopefully, jokic's championship would open doors for Kai this year.

Do you think they’ll sign a back up C?

B Lopez, Poeltl, and Vuc will be FAs.

10 years ago when LeBron won his 2nd finals MVP after scoring 37 points in Game 7 of the 2013 NBA Finals. Lebron and the Heat were the first NBA team to beat the Spurs in the NBA Finals.

Still one of the greatest performances of all time. And the last time Coach Spo won an NBA Championship

I think they will resign Lopez if he isn't too expensive next season. Brook just won defensive player of the year at age 35.lol Rim protection was his ticket for that award even in his advanced age. Milwaukee just needs to make sure that Giannis will be healthy next playoff and manage his minutes in the regular season.

Also, in the Denver-Miami series Butler was negated by using bigger players as his defender. This was really good height trumps a good small team and Denver played common sense bball. They exploited the matchups and usually have the size in the forward to center pos to contest penetrators.

Denver scored 66pts in the paint in this game and made 3pt loving stat peeps look so stupid. Denver avgs more than 50 inside pts throughout the plays offs and they have proven that scoring higher percentage shots would lead to dominating victories.

Brook didn't win the DPOY. He was a finalist. It was JJJ who won.

They just need another star to compliment Jimmy and Bam. Lowry is currently on his late 30s so he might not be the solution anymore.

when it comes to the bigs problem. I doubt anyone can stop Jokic one on one. Maybe develop Yurtseven. He was a beast 2 seasons ago i had him on my fantasy team when Bam was injured.

Okay.

Well apparently I was wrong when I said that a team from the East will win this season’s Larry O’Brien trophy, that’s the risk I had to take because not only I’m a fan of coach Spo and his system but also I considered the Celts, Pistons(because of the bad boy era and now with Coach Monty) and the Bulls(because of the G.O.A.T with Scottie and currently with Coach Billy D) as my other franchise fave

The Nugs deserved to be called champ on that historic day June 13, 2013 PST

The Heats literally lost lungs in that series and the High Miles having the fresh legs, the youth and the length on their side really pounded the weary South Beachers.

But overall, in fairness to coach MM, the best coach of the series IMHO is still coach Spo.

It took them a healthy Jamal Murray. That's all. And it also goes without saying that every team has to find good role players and complimentary pieces to build around franchise players. Denver is a small market, had a difficult time to attract good free agents or trade for them, but they were patient and made it. Jokić's defense was superb in this playoffs, especially in the finals.

Totally agree.

Jokic is the biggest piece, but Murray is the killer in that team. He is the difference when the game is tight and pressure-packed. It's no coincidence that they got so far with him in previous years (before his injury), underperformed without him, and finally went over the hump when he came back.

Last season data shows that inside scoring is on the rise and it would take over the league's offense. Also, the league is still soft and has been favoring offensive players.
It is indeed a new era of bigs and commonsense offense by going for higher percentage shots.

4. Fewer 3s!

One reason why efficiency has gone up over the last decade is that the league has learned that three is greater than two. But this season, the league-wide 3-point rate (3PA/FGA) actually dropped for the first time in the last 12 years.

The last drop was from 2009-10 to ’10-11, and the last drop this big was in 1997-98, when the 3-point distance moved back to 23′-9″ from 22′-0″ (where it was in 1994-95, ’95-96 and ’96-97).

So how did efficiency go up so much while 3-point volume when down? The answer is inside the arc.

Last season, the league shot an all-time high of 53.3% on 2-pointers, and it was the first time in 31 years that the average 2-point shot (1.065 points per attempt) was worth more than the average 3-point shot (1.061).

This season, the league took that all-time high of 53.3% and destroyed it, shooting 54.8% inside the arc. We saw the best marks for both shooting in the paint (57.8%) and mid-range shooting (42.0%) in the 27 years for which we have shot-location data. And the percentage of 2-point shots that came from mid-range (19.3%) dipped below 20% for the first time in those 27 seasons.

So not only did the league take fewer 3s, it took fewer mid-range jumpers too. And though 3-point percentage went up, the average value of a 2-point shot (1.096 points per attempt) was again higher than the average value of a 3 (1.082).

6. More scorers than ever

There were 19 players who averaged at least 25 points in 40 games or more this season. That was six more than last season and three more than in any other season in NBA history.

There were also 203 40-point games this season, 84 more than there were last season (119) and 61 more than the previous high of 142 in 1961-62 (when there were a lot fewer games total).

Though league-wide pace (99.8 possessions per team per 48 minutes) was up from last season, it was down from three and four years ago. But there were 54 players with a usage rate of 25% or higher this season, the most in the 27 years for which we have play-by-play data.

USG% = Percentage of teams possessions used (via FGA, turnovers and trips to the line) while on the floor.
30%+, 25%+ = Number of players with a usage rate of at least 30 or 25%

More high-usage players leads to more guys scoring at a high volume.

a 15 years old LeBron James was already capable of scoring against current NBA players during that time according to Ron Artest when they played in a pickup game
