Tournament is scheduled 14-18 June in Argentina (city TBD).

Participating teams:

USA, Canada
Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Mexico
Argentina, Paraguay, Venezuela

Top four teams will qualify for 2018 U17 WC.

USA Basketball has announced a list of 24 invitees to training camp that is set to start on June 1.

It's a mix of 2019/2020 YoG players. Best ranked are Vernon Carey, James Wiseman and Juwan Gary from 2019, Jabri Abdur-Rahim from 2020.

How do you figure? There are three definitive tiers in the FIBA Americas age group competitions as evidenced over the last half dozen years or so.
Tier 1 = USA
Tier 2 = Canada, Argentina, Brazil
Tier 3 - Everyone else

The 2nd and 3rd best teams in this tournament are in group A. It seems balanced to me.

3xCentrobasket in the same group and 3xSudamericano in the other, isn't it GEOGRAPHICALLY unbalanced? .

Then, I think Group B will be quite tough as far as the 2nd place is concerned. PUR and DOM have good records in U16 history

P.S.: Brazil is out of contention, suspended.

u16 Canada final tryouts are being held today, they had a first run about a month ago and narrowed down the field. After today the team should be picked.
No mention on when the team will be announced - Monday I would guess.

Puerto Rico final roster:

Christian Cruz
André Curbelo
Diego González
Derek Luna
Sebastián Martínez
Jermaine Miranda
Charlie O’Neill
Rafael Pinzón
Luis Rolón
Víctor Rosa
Miguel Santos
Harry Sosa

Nine players return from the 2016 U15 Centrobasket champ team, among them leading scorer Miranda.

Canada announced their 17 man training camp roster. And strangely it doesn't included Addison Patterson and Joshua Hemmings both profiled in the linked FIBA article. I am not sure why though....and if accurate it has me quite disappointed Canada will be without two f their "Big Three".

Based on specialized press, top prospects should be 2019's Carey, Wiseman, Moore and Weems, 2020's Hampton, Barnes and Suggs as well as Zion Harmon from 2021.

Anyway, this roster represents an interesting new cycle. Among other teams unfortunately it seems that a couple of hi-profile Canadian prospects will be missing at the tournament.

Can anyone give a run down of the Canadian roster? I don't know these players, sad to see the one Maritime kid got cut though!

well besides missing two of our three best players in Addison Peterson and Josh Hemmings for unknown reasons. Cashius McNealy should be our star player. Xavier Rathan Maynes kid brother is supposed to be pretty good too and I expect to be the starting PG. Don't know much about the others.

Allot of strangeness going on here with Canada Baskeball. A bunch of other high level kids were not There either. Matthew Alexander Moncrieffe, Kobe Antwi, Coleman Stucke, Ladera Obang, all not even among the 17 invited to training camp..

Thanks to bench depth and balanced attack USA scored 100+ winning over Puerto Rico. Everyone from US team went on the scoreboard, led by Vernon Carey Jr. Some too many turnovers and points allowed especially in the final minutes of Q2.

Dominican Rep crushed Mexico 86-45 and will meet US today in an interesting game.

Canada beat Argentina 75-61, with Cashius McNeilly and Gaston Bertona leading their respective teams.

PR's two top players Jermaine Miranda and Andre Curbelo did not play against the US, apparently recovering from injuries.

Canada looked real good in the first half against Argentina.
