this tournament is a training ground for the Philippines in preparation for the world cup.

Host Country: China.
East Asia: 2
West Asia: 2
The Gulf: 2
South East Asia: 1
Central Asia: 1
South Asia: 1

Are u sure about this ? I think it's probably something like this (based on 2013 FIBA Asia Champs results and not 2012 FIBA Asia Cup)

East: China + 2
West: Iran + 1
Gulf: 1
Southeast: 2
Central: 1
South: 1

No Philippines in the 5th FIBA Asia Cup?

No Philippines in the 5th FIBA Asia Cup?

Since the SEABA qualifiers were Singapore and Indonesia, I guess Gilas won't be part of this Wuhan joust, contrary to other earlier reports. By the way, only three teams vied for the SEABA slots last May 21-23 qualifiers: Singapore, host Indonesia and Malaysia.

Host Country: China.
East Asia: Japan and Chinese Taipei.
West Asia: Jordan and Iran.
South East Asia: Philippines, Singapore and Indonesia.
Central Asia: Uzbekistan.
South Asia: India.

@Kings, can you please provide links how the Philippines will also participate in the Wuhan joust? Thanks.

From twitter

@coachot: Yes, we're seeded "@mikhailblaze: @coachot coach, are we really joining the FIBA Asia Cup 2014 in China? Di tayo nakasali sa qualifiers eh"

According to the FIBA Asia rules, the number of participating teams in the 2014 FIBA Asia Cup is ten (10). Each zone had one place, and the hosts (China) and the defending FIBA Asia Championship titleholder (Iran) were automatically qualified. The other two places were allocated to the zones according to performance in the 2013 FIBA Asia Championship.

Iran and China in one group again. Interesting.

Phils and CT are also in the same group again :D

So the Philippines will also play in the 5th FIBA Asia Cup, after all. They were selected as a wildcard after the withdrawal from Gulf subzone, making SEABA representatives up to three.

My initial top three teams per group:
Group A - Iran, China, Japan
Group B - Philippines, Chinese Taipei, Jordan
(seeding based on their performance last 2013 Asian Championships in Manila)

how about yours, peeps?

Philippines is grouped with Jordan . . . hello again Coach Rajko Toroman!

A victory against either Jordan or Chinese-Taipei should guarantee passage to the next round. The Philippines will have an easy time against Singapore and Uzbekistan.

Jordan and Chinese Taipei is a tough team to beat, especially Jordan, Toroman knows
our weakness.

^^ Chinese Taipei will send a Team B national team + Quincy Davis to get him in shape. Team B not as good as last year's Taiwan team in FIBA Asia.

Jordan wouldn't send their top guns also... That makes the team virtually no choice to top the group and battle India Indonesia in the quarters..

The format to be used is the same as this year's World Cup, slim chance of PHL vs CHN. Only happens when both teams win their respective groups, CHN over Iran abd JPN, and PHL over JOR and TPE.

Iran's roster for FIBA Asia Cup

PG: Aren Davoudi, Saman Veisi
SG: Behnam Yakhchali, Younes Lalehzadeh
SF: Mohammad Jamshidi, Mohammad Reza Akbari
PF: Arsalan Kazemi, Oshin Sahakian, Arman Zangeneh
C: Hamed Haddadi, Asghar Kardoust, Rouzbeh Arghavan
