I've been an Alaska fan for so long, and I intend to remain one for as long as E. Cow is the team's mascot.

Though Alaska lost its second straight game (to Derby Ace this time), I think the Aces played competitively, although not enough to win the game. Jay-R Reyes and Sonny Thoss played well together, until the fourth quarter when Reyes threw two or three bricks and asking the referees for fouls that weren't called.

It's just James Yap was his usual deadly self, complemented by Josh Urbiztondo (those three 3-pointers late in the fourth quarter really hurt). Let's hand it to B-Meg. And they let Kerby Raymundo score practically unmolested the insurance basket. They were the better team last night. But that's basketball.

After the game, my good friend CK Kanapi (Alaska Asst. Team Manager) texted me a sad message about the team yet losing another game. I told her there are still 12 games to be won in the Alaska sked. She agreed that that's the attitude Alaska fans should keep.

I have faith in Joel Banal as Alaska head coach. After all, he is also from Caloocan City just like us.

i agree. The transition from the Triangle Era to a Coneless Era is going to tough and difficult, the Uytengsu's know that and ultimately, they are competitors so they'd want to prove Tim wrong about leaving and continue the winning tradition.

Regarding the game, i don't know but i really like this Alaska team, line-up and new system (not that i did not like the triangle). From what i've seen in their first two games they have the talent to compete and even be contenders should they find the right chemistry in time. They are the only team in the league that can really GO BIG-- Thoss and Reyes and even Mac Barracael at the 3-spot!

That 4th quarter against BMEG was really unfortunate. They did stop Yap in the fourth, contained the other stars like Simon and Raymundo and decided that if Urbiztondo is going to shoot us out of the building.. So be it. 4/4 from beyond for Josh late in the game and the gamble did not pay off for Alaska. Though it was the RIGHT strategy.

Keep your heads up Aces fans, another week or so i feel they'd be in contender form.

It really is a pity that Alaska lost. Their players looked very determined to win. With the kind of size available to him, Banal should work on changing the character of the team. Samigue should be weaponized and turned into some kind of Distrito. He's not particularly good in rebounding and scoring, but he certainly can flatten the pogi boys of other teams -- say a James Yap -- to send a clear message that they are now an ice hockey team playing basketball to entertain the masses. Physical and mental domination is something that Alaska can perform very well.

Ice hockey? Are we talking of the Alaska Aces of the International Hockey League, or the Alaska Aces of the Philippine Basketball Association?

:D

Actually there is a minor league ice hockey team called the Alaska Aces, which was formerly known as the Anchorage Aces. The PBA Alaska Aces was first. I just liked the ice hockey analogy, and it so happened that there is another Alaska Aces team, albeit an ice hockey team.

First game on Friday. And a big one too:

That Sonny Thoss-JayR Reyes combo reminds me of the Takeuchi Twins. :D It's really something to look forward to in the coming years as an Alaska Fan. I liked the tall starting lineup.

Starting 5: Thoss, Reyes, Baracael, Dela Cruz, Tenorio

I still have faith in my team. Patience is a virtue! :p

yeah maybe although sonny is a tough version the takeuchi's

but one thing is for sure they are misssing their Kawamura:cool:;)

in serious note Alaska needs a scorer..

with alaska, baracael will further hone his skills as small forward. good thing they're using big line up all the time.

Why not insert Eman replace Baracael slide Reyes to 3 ( tutal malambot at malamya maglaro si Reyes sayang talent )

With the Thoss-Reyes front court they were noticeably slow. You want them even slower? :D

Yeah for experiment kung pwede na sa international :D

in fairness Durdy, when i saw the game between Bmeg and Alaska ( got my interest to watch PBA again ) your right on one thing BMeg is a scary team:eek: because they're intact and complete on every positions( ball movement and triangle naku good for dynasty yan ), meanwhile Alaska had the best frontcourt line-up with Thoss, Reyes and Baracael ( kung mag click hirap ang makakalaban ) in the league IMO these 2 teams can compete in FIBA Asia Champions cup to any club teams from the middle east

Agreed on your take on Alaska. i thought they'd struggle without Cone (at least the first months under Banal) but what i saw in their first 2 games was that they had an identity of their own-- more on feeding the dogs underneath (Thoss/Reyes) or even mid-range, since they have legit range from that area. IF Barracael had a good game last night, i think they win that game (add the fact that Urbiztondo was shooting the lights out).

Over the long-term, it is vital that they find a place for Baguio in this new identity (whilst they still run some variations of the triangle) because then they'd be complete from inside and out (on assumption of course that Tenorio stays being Tenorio and Barracael and/or De la Cruz consistently contributes). To add, the bench is not too shabby as well: Eman, Custodio, Cablay are legit rotation players.

Did not forget about him as he was used in the 1st game (and was quite effective)... i did not see him on the floor last night though. Also, i hope Julius Pasculado gains some playing time and let's see if he has the talent to play with the big boys.
