as the sportcasters say D is on the bench smiling (he is the only player with no points)

Greece with a fantastic ball movement and very good shooting, while Russia couldn't get things going on offense, was always a step too late on defense and turned the ball over too many times. A highly enjoyful game for Greek fans, a lop-seded frustrating one for Russian fans.

Greece-Russia

Greece-Russia

101-63.

Working Well:
- Fotsis is back in a big way. He was lethal from the 3 point line and very active inside. A great inside-outside threat.
- Bourousis continues to be our most reliable and skilled inside player.
- Vouyoukas had a much better outing - showing some nice post moves, and making put backs, lay-ups and dunks.
- Zisis was excellent, showing a good touch from the outside and reliable as always in ball-handling and defense.
- It was nice to see Pappas and Papanikolaou play most of the second half. They hustled and even scored on occasion. But it is clear that they are not quite ready to make the senior squad - in 1-2 years they will make great additions to the team.
- The team was excellent in its defense again today, but the biggest positive was their improved fast break - 13/15 on fast breaks with Calathes spearheading many of them. Calathes is the perfect player for Kazlauskas fast tempo system and he was outstanding in all facets of the game today.

Still needing work:
- not much to complain about in this game. Russia played without Khryapa, their best player, and without Sasha Kaun, unless they played and I didn't notice. So they are sure to be much more competitive at the WC 2010. Still, Greece's dominating performance here bodes well for their match-up in the group stage.
- Perperoglou continued to disappoint me a little bit - he heaved up a few errant threes and wasn't as reliable offensively as Printezis.
- Spanoulis missed a few lay-ups, just like yesterday, which is frustrating because he can get to the basket with such ease. On the other hand, his outside shot is working well so I expect him to shoot the three ball consistently in the tournament.
- The biggest disappointment was Diamantidis - he seems out of sorts and has not really gotten anything going in the past two games. His injury didn't seem serious so I hope to see him have a good game tomorrow.
- Vasiliadis and Kaimakoglou didn't play so it seems they are the ones fighting for the last roster spot, with Perperoglou certain to make the cut.

Was nice to see "the kids" Pappas and Papanikolau in action.

I think Vasileiadis should be on the final squad,he is the only pure shooter Greece has

This will be a bit problematic for Russia.

Blowouts like this shouldnt happen in friendlies, unless many key players are missing.

Still, losing by 38 isnt good...

combination of both..
but at the end it was our sloppy play which gave germans an opportunity to win the game..
but a good test game for both teams.. much to learn from this..
Popović was great when he was running the point and setting team plays..
but as always he has it's own black minutes when he forces his outside shot too much..
he was 2/2 for three when he missed 3 three point attempts in 2 minutes in 4 quarter..
all three of them coming way too fast and not from organized plays..
I didn't like Kus playing as SG when Popović was PG..
Kus was nonexistant in offense..
Banić is our best big man at the moment.. his position as starting PF should be locked.. but we are way too soft under the basket..

loncar will start at PF

what the score?:)

76:97 Lithuania won! Just kidding, Spain off course :)

Spaniards look well as always. Lithuanian coach experimented again, but it is really time to cut that.

Friendlies doesn't count when Championship begins;)

even if these games are friendly and not important greece is amazing and in a good form in one more game

Personally I'm not so optimistic mate about these performances.I don't know but in Giannakis era I always had the feeling that our players played too seriously the friendly games, like they wanted to impress and there is no point about it.I remember we won the big Lithuania in friendly games when in official games we had not even chance to compete them. This creates many hopes and then you can easily be dissapointed.I don't think there is any rational man that would believe that in an official game we could beat Russians that easy, they beat us last year and it was almost the same teams.

Engin Atsür was taken to the hospital for a MRI during the match. that's bad news for turkey.

Final

Brazil 92 x 50 Venezuela.

Marcelo Huertas (0 pts), Leandrinho (10), Alex (7), Anderson Varejão (13 and 9 boards) e Tiago Splitter (6). Bench: Guilherme Giovannoni (13), Hátila (0), Marcelinho (11), Raulzinho (4), Murilo (11), Nezinho (4) e Marquinhos (13). Head Coach: Rubén Magnano.

I liked the brazilian defense, much more agressive with Magnano and organized. Venezuela couldn't do much, Brazilian national team was a lot superior.

Tomorrow

Venezuela x Chile
Brazil x Angola.
