Ouch, ouch, ouch. What is so important to Faris that he can't play for the NT? Turk and Neimneh will be missed. I think El Khatib will be there.

Matt Freiji got injured in today's game vs. Taiwan in Jones Cup. Injury seems serious but hopefully should be able to recover before start of World Championship.

I believe he has his own issues with the Lebanese federation and NT.
We all hope Khatib would be ready to play in Turkey.

Australia will be without Nathan Jawai from the Minnesota Timberwolves...

What sucks about these absences is that the friendlies haven't been played yet. Everyone knows that absences are likely to come from those games.

That's really disappointing. Personally, I think he (or any player) could impress more people by playing in the WC than an NBA Summer League team.

That's my message to international players: impress NBA scouts by playing against the world's best players, not junior college kids in the summer leagues.

Now Dirk Nowitzki has joined the big list of absentees, too: He declared on Tuesday, that he will not go to Turkey. After signing a new deal with the Dallas Mavericks he need time to concentrate for 100 percent for the new NBA season with the completely renovated Mavericks team.

On the other hand he confirmed his interest to take part in the 2011 European Championships, where he wants to help the German team top qualify for the Olympics 2012.

The problem is right in front of FIBA yet they don't do anything about it.

Anyways, all these absences are going to come and bite the USA in the ass. I'm going to say that they won't even finish top 10 in 2010. And for their selfishness, they're going to have to play next year in 2011. Let that be a lesson for those primadonnas who will have to play two summers of basketball rather than one (2012).

Thanks for posting this, Hot Spot. That is very disappointing. Dirk has consistently been one of the best NBA players when it comes to international tournaments. He has constantly (and respectfully) defied Mark Cuban's idiotic stance toward international competition. It's good that he'll play in the EC...but it doesn't get much bigger than the World Championships. Disappointing news.

It's pretty clear that Nowitzki is more concerned with the Olympics than the World Championship. Just read what he says. Not much different than what other international stars have said so far.

it seems that freije will recover before the wc. but he will miss a big part from the preps.

el khatib has recovered but it's the coach desicion if we will pick him or no.

also i forgot before:

sabah khoury SG
bassel bawji F
hussein tawbi F/C

will miss the wc

Yes, yes, I know, Franz. But it's the freakin' World Championship of basketball. It should be as important as the Olympics. For me, it is.

yes, but apparently the game of basketball is being played for rich owners and not for the fans who are actually paying for all that..
whether they are NBA fans, euroleague fans, FIBA or whatever..
