2010 WC absentees

Quite honestly, I don't care anymore. At a point, where I don't even want to watch the WC when it comes around. FIBA is the biggest reason why the WC is suffering and will continue to suffer. You would have figured after 2006 they would have done their BEST to promote the event. But no, too cocky for their own good.

Here's to hoping that the WC absolutely sucks.

Could you elaborate on that?

It's not even a guarantee that Argentina qualifies for the London considering only two teams from the 2011 Americas go to Olympics.

USA (if they don't win 2010 WC)
Brazil

or

USA
Puerto Rico

Their only other opportunity is through Olympic Qualifying Tournament but even that's a gamble. All in all, I sure hope Ginobili knows what he's doing because next year could be his last with Argentina NT.
No, it's not a guarantee, Franz. Even with Ginobili, Argentina isn't a "lock" for London.

Magnano is going to help Brazil a lot and they'll be bringing a lot of star players. If Magnano can get them playing together for the first time since the '90s, they'll be tough.

Puerto Rico is still question mark for me. They've got a few veterans still on their team (pure speculation, but I don't think Arroyo is going) and some great young players, like Barea, Diaz, and Sanchez.

So, if Manu doesn't show up, they're going to have a tough fight, that's for sure.

I agree with you on FIBA's efforts. I don't think they've done enough to promote the WC as a premiere event, especially when you consider all the hype that the World Cup has received over the past several months. I've always been in favor of new ideas for the WC tournament. Not only should it be promoted more but it should be reformated. They should seriously think about getting rid of the single host nation format and either have a Davis Cup style tournament where countries host round-by-round games, or have a regional system where multiple countries host the event at multiple sites.

Dwight Howard might be out, according to the Orlando Sentinel. Apparently, he wants to rest, make a movie, and be in a reality TV show.

I guess, most of the fans want to see all the best players coming to WC, but on other hand as USA concerning I think It would be interesting to see how deep USA could be. I mean, can they dominate without Wade, Lebron, Anthony, Howard. If they would lose Kobe and Bosh as well, than It would be a real challenge for them

Spain is a question mark as well without Gasol. Two of the top contenders will have absentees.

I admit I'd like to see how deep our team can be without its top tier players. Plus, of course, it gives the next generation a chance to get some international basketball experience.
Also, we can see if Coach K and his staff have really learned anything about international basketball tactics over the last few years as, presumably, they would need to be more tactical instead of simply running and pressing all the time.

Lorbek out of WC?

"Ne osjećam da bih bio od koristi reprezentaciji", rekao je 26-godišnji centar. "Nikakvu pauzu nisam imao već dvije godine, a sigurno ću se odazvati pozivu za EuroBasket 2011. godine."

"I don't feal I would be usfull to NT", said 26 year old center. "I didn't have any pause for two years, but I will surley be there for EuroBasket 2011."

It only means he doesn't care too much about NT and thinks about what's better for his career in the club. Barsa had great rotation in all positions, I don't see why Lorbek should be tired that much. If he won't play, Slovenia will have problems with frontline.

I'm curious if he's interested about the NBA and Indiana because his decision doesn't make much sense.

Somethig like

CP3 - Deron - Rose
Joe Johnson - OJ Mayo
Durant - Gerald Wallace
Boozer - Love
Amare - Brook Lopez - Perkins

Not bad.

Very risky. This could be another bronze team or worse. Don´t forget that the Redeem team was the result of a 4 year programme. I can see this team loosing in an exhibition game already.

That team wouldn't even finish in the top 6.

post of the year

Too much inexperience on that team.

- Derrick Rose
- OJ Mayo
- Kevin Durant
- Gerald Wallace
- Kevin Love
- Brook Lopez
- Kendrick Perkins

Talent is not only factor that wins championships. This has already been proven in 2004 & 2006

Maybe they wouldn't be the heavy favorite to get the gold with this particular squad, but claiming that they wouldn't even finish in the top 6 is an overstatement.

Actually its possible. If they where to get upset in the quarterfinals, they would be so down on the dumps they might get upset again in the games deciding 5th-8th.

That particular roster he posted is no better than their 2002 team that finished 6th playing at home or the 2004 team that finished 3rd. It's also IMO weaker than the 2006 team that finished third.

Lower than 6th is probably an exaggeration, but I think that team would finish 3rd. Spain and Greece would be too strong for that team.

Also, Boozer isn't playing this summer as far as I know. So I don't think they would finish lower than 6th with that roster, but I don't think that roster could handle Spain or Greece.

The 2004 squad got beat by Puerto Rico, Lithuania, and Argentina. This proposed USA team is worse than 2004. They would have a hard time beating other teams, not just Spain and Greece.
