2010 Japanese NT

Japan and its American coach Tom Wiseman named its 28-man roster yesterday.

I understand Japan wants the best result in Asian Games but this roster is bad. Only 2 college players, yet 40-year-old Orimo is still on the roster. Where is Japan's next generation? Also disappointing is still no player from the BJ-league named to the NT after the nominal reconciliation between the two leagues last month. I look forward to seeing Tabuse in Guangzhou however.

PS: real names for naturalized players:
  • Walterbrown Matsushima = Walter Brown (1/4-Japanese, 3/4-black American)
  • Shin Aoshima = Wei Xin (Chinese)
  • Ken Tanaka = Abe Morabbi (half-Japanese, half-Persian American)

Included are:

Kanamaru Kosuke the best scorer of Japan U-22 at 29.8 ppg

while Hirose Kenta was the best rebounder in the U-22 at 7.7 rpg of U-22

I would have included Hiejima Makoto alongside Mitsuhara Yuki (though Yuki made the grade) though.

No, Hiejima Makoto?
Who is he?

Kanamaru was in fact the leading scorer of 2009 Universiade I believe, but did nothing with the senior NT that year.

Also I noticed a new player Shin Aoshima who apparently came from Qingdao, China and was called Wei Xin before naturalization. (The two characters for "Aoshima" = Qingdao)

Hiejima Makoto was also a member of the U-22 Japanese NT in 2009 and kept an average scoring of double figures while hauling down around 4.1 rpg despite being a guard. Still, it is my personal opinion, Tom Wiseman still has the authority on personnel.

Also, thank you for the info on Aoshima, the name and the player bio was not familiar to me, until now that is.

What U-22 stats are you talking about? In Universiade?

I also don't know who this Aoshima character is. For a while Japanese high schools have been recruiting Chinese kids to play basketball (and for the matter, Sudanese, or even Filipino) to the point that there are too many to keep track of. I don't have a problem with Chinese changing citizenship but I seriously don't like the practice of changing names, you know. Had they not listed birth place in that table I would have never known the guy is actually Chinese by birth.

PS: the 2010 World Championship-bound Japanese Women's NT also features a Chinese girl, formerly known as Li Shasha but now called Risa Kawamura...

Yes, the U-22 is the Japanese NT on the World University Games back in 2009.

Speaking of the Japanese on their recruitment, our very own Maui Villanueva now playing in De La Salle University once played hoops on a school in Japan. I think it was High-School Basketball.

I just discovered that the Ken Tanaka guy in Japan NT was born in the U.S. and is half-Iranian half-Japanese. He was originally named Abe Morabbi.

As for Chinese players in Japanese HS scene, heck even the Chinese NT coach last year Guo Shiqiang played high school hoops in Japan.

Japanese basketball team according to some observers lacks toughness but looking at them they seem to have also lacked energy guys, guys that can jump out of the court bring you hustle. Japan has talented and skill full players but the two factors I mentioned earlier can be a reason why they can only classified as a "good" asian team

Another PG Takumi Ishizaki added to the roster bringing the total to 29.

While the roster looks less than impressive, they have already started training for the Asian Games! I think Japan is serious about AG this time.

Tabuse & Wiseman

they always serious but I say the manpower isn't enough. We can admit Japan sends good teams in every ag or fiba asia they just cannot get it to the next level as i say they need energy guys out there aside from toughness

Japan national playmaker Kosuke Takeuchi is heading to the United States with hopes of joining the NBA, the Japan Basketball Association said Wednesday.

Takeuchi, who is a 205-centimeter center/forward for the Aisin Sea Horses, follows in the footsteps of his twin brother Joji of the Hitachi Sunrockers, who is already taking part in workouts in the United States as he aims for a spot in the NBA.

oh. so they added fanboy Ishizaki.

Good luck to the twins though they won't make it. Heck, they were even "softened" by ASi and Mick year

Japan lost to the Dongguan Leopards in an exhibition game played recently, 55-71. Thank you sinobball for providing the link.

imo the takeuchi twins wont make it. they are not that big(yep they are tall) and they are slow. their only upside is that they have great pair of hands.still goodluck to them and all asians seeking better life and careers. GO Asia!!!

oh my the play by play is hard to understand..:(

really japan lost in this match maybe they play possum

hehe fumihiko aono is back

but seriously takuya kawamura will add firepower to japs now there is a bet Barroca vs tabuse:D

obviously 15 is Joji Takeuchi and 10 is for kosuke

Its nice to see Yuta Tabuse and Takuya Kawamura back on the NT. The so called Prodigal Sons.

Tabuse is superfast while Takuya Kawamura would definitely help up the scoring. I just wish that Taku-chan would pass the ball more.
