Well, he has had a good all-round season on the second best team that also made it to the final. Last year, it has been Kadir, right? It's not like he gave superhuman stats.

I tried this link yesterday but it did not work :(

Nothing against Mekel ( well , with the exception of over-dribbling) , I just don't like those "calculations" , e.g. Maccabi got best coach, why another finalist Galil should get the best player ? There is a bunch of players that had a breakthrough season : Pnini , Grunfeld just to name a few.

This season Pnini earned enough respect to be in All-EL team with his performance, it's strange he didn't got any freaking award from Israeli league.

Well, you can't give all awards to the most successful team and Galil was the second best. At the same time, I don't know, if Mekel was so much responsible for it and heaved his team on a higher level. But considering Galil having lost Pargo and still made it to the final game, it would probably be a Galil player with the most impact.

In Germany, DaShaun Wood became MVP this season. He led the second best team (in the standings) with league best statistics and without him this bunch would never make it to the playoffs. BTW, a super fast player, yet always in control. A great shooter, great slasher, great all-rounder, albeit just 185 cm tall.

Galil & Jerusalem historically has more quality Israelis then other clubs (beside MTA) , so it usually gives them a edge in play-offs. This year Jerusalem is a mess , so Galil just took the advantage of it.

For 2 first league rounds Galil was a mess too : crappy foreigners , Mekel as a sole playmaker, but after they replaced their foreigners & another PG Guni Israeli returned from injury, they started to look as a team more or less.

Gal wasn't the best Israeli this season ( both statistically & quality-wise) , nor the best player in general.

He's type of a person that keeps his mouth under control , not making enemies, befriending the right folks, being everybody's buddy, etc.

It explains why @ 19 y.o. , he was selected as a main PG for our NT after Tapiro's retirement. It turned out to be total failure , btw, not a single win was achieved @ Eurobasket 2009).

Mekel 's team won a championship last year, but he wasn't the team key player , so Shivek didn't take him into NT squad this summer. Now with "Player of the Year" trophy in a hand , Shivek cannot leave him home anymore.

His big players are far from admiring him.. Will Solomon, Jason Rich, Sam Clancy all bashed him on the media or in the social networks. He failed this season but I'm not sure he's the one to blame. Hapoel's not a good place for coaches. Too high expectations and not enough patience alongside with a great losing history. Not that it bothers their fans that have high hopes every season and call themselves 'the alternative'

In some sense Kattash fulfilled his fantasy of building guards' paradise in one given team. :D

Guards are allowed to do everything on ( and off) the court. By everything I really mean everything.

Bigs , on the other hand, must obey the following rules or be benched for eternity:

Bigs must defend , run back and forth without touching the ball, set screens , grab rebounds, dive for the ball and do all dirty work for his masters (guards). Big man must help guards to defend against opponent guards, but in the same time he should provide defensive umbrella under the basket. Any lay-up conceded is a big man fault.

Grabbing offensive rebound , big man should check if he can pass a ball to some guard , only if he can't pass, he could allow to himself to score. Bigs should never complain about anything, including, God forbid , to complain about guards.

There is no such thing as C, PF or SF, because it can lead to blasphemous thoughts and ruin the rules. There should be only one bigman (to do all dirty work) and 4 guards (to enjoy the game).

watching the final i was thinking the main key of the year was the way blatt organize the defense, but also , how he rebuild blu who seems to came back at his treviso season.
no team can win without shooters and without perimetral skills. giving blu chance to shot was something a great key.

Since Hapoel Gilboa came 2nd place and Hapoel Jerusalem 3rd place in Lottery League (or whatever it is called), does that means Gilboa is going to Euroleague 2012 qualifying round or Eurocup?
What about Hapoel Jerusalem? Going to Eurocup or ?
