I'm going with my hometown team and voting for LeBron. LeBron's got two other All-Star-caliber players on his team: Ilgauskas and Williams. Ilgauskas and Williams are both great, but I still think he's the most important player on a good team.

It's very close. Don't count out D-Wade guys. The guy has been playing spectacular over the last month and if his team can continue winning the majority of their remaining games till the end of the season then he has a good chance.
However even will all this, i still think Lebron has a very slight edge over the rest.

(:p at Brian Scalabrine being added on the list)

I want Wade to win it, just because of how hard he worked to get himself back to where he was. You can really tell that guy is on a mission.

LeBron might deserve it, but I feel like maybe if he doesn't get it, he'll come out even better next season to prove something to everyone!

Can't believe no one has voted for Brian yet;)!

Duncan's silverware cupboard is full, he asked me not to put him on the list.

And Billups already has somehow obtained a Finals MVP trophy... if he also wins the Regular Season MVP the FBI will detain him and have him questioned by Mulder and Scully. This would mean he would be unavailable from the 2nd round of the playoffs onwards! Do you really think the Nuggets could cope!?

If Amare were OK, maybe he wouldn't b eligible 4 the first round anyway.;)

I was in a big dilemma between Kobe Bryant and Brian Scalabrine, but I decided I shouldn't vote 4 a player of the arch-rivals Celtics, so I voted 4 Kobe.:D

I have actually had the feeling all day that I've missed someone pretty obvious... but I still can't think who!

YEAH!, Brandon Roy DUH !!!!!!!!!!!

I thought u were never gonna noticed it ;)

Na, Roy's not the one... I got my own MVP criteria, and to me you can only be on the list when you are close to maximizing your ceiling as a player. And I still think Roy and the Blazers will get a lot better over the next few years (With or without Oden). You can't give a player an award like this too soon;)!

If it was up to me I’d leave LeBron from the list, just because I think he can still improve a lot more. I don’t think he should be allowed to win it until he completely takes control of his team and makes it his (No more flirting with the Knicks;-)…). Wade to me has done that this season (‘This is my house!’).

Scalabrine...
He is Da Guy!
Nothing to say!
He plays basketball while having curly red hair! Wow!
I don't get why he doesn't get the Most Improbable Player Award every year.
Let's give him the Meaningless but Volunteer Player Award this year!

I think we should add for him a "I feel with you" Award since he was diagnosed with post concussion syndrome last week (he's still suffering from when he got whacked in the head twice in January).

You know, the team is still dependent a great deal on Z and Mo Williams. LeBron is clearly one of the best players in the league and the Cavs' most important player, though.

I hope the flirtations stop!
Wade to me has done that this season (‘This is my house!’).
I saw him standing on the tables saying that after his win the other night. :D He's a cute player with plenty of skill. He surely is helping that team, as is Coach Spoelstra, but I think they'll be bounced out of the Play-Offs pretty quickly.

I think Deron Williams is another player that should be talked about. He's got the best top-to-bottom supporting cast in the NBA, so it makes it hard to give heim the MVP.

Yea, I’m not doubting that he is the best player in the league. No one has ever been able to move the way he does. It’s just the standards have to be different for a player like LeBron.

Do you remember Shaq back in the 1999/2000 season? He clearly thought: ‘**** this! Enough of these playoff exits via Sweeps to teams like Utah, this is my league!’. He then went out there and dominated the season from beginning to end.

I know he had Phil Jackson to guide him, but you could feel a different presence about Shaq that year, something that just said he was determined to win everything that there was to be won from start to finish. He only managed to do that for one year, and that’s why he only has one MVP!

With LeBron I’m waiting for him to have the same kind of mindset. What he’s doing is beyond impressive, but don’t you think he could be doing more? That he could step it up a notch like Shaq did back in 2000? That he could quit the show, the powder, etc, and just focus on dominating?

If LeBron was playing with the same kind of mindset that Wade is at the moment, I think the Cavs would probably win it all!

I hope the flirtations stop!

How difficult is LeBron to read?! With Kobe I don't think anyone ever really thought that he would leave the Lakers. But with LeBron... must be a nightmare being a Cavs fan;)!

I'm looking into it. Must admit I never watch Utah highlights. No idea why. Some part of my subconscious probably still thinks Malone and Stockton are running pick and rolls for them... plus wasn't Deron injured for a while there?

From what I read though it sounds like if healthy, they are the only team that could stop the Lakers from reaching the finals!

Stig, I wish you were wrong about Shaq. I really hated him in '00. But, yes...he was an absolutely dominant player.

I kind of disagree about your reasoning to find the MVP. Basically, you say that once the best player is playing his best game, he deserves to be MVP. My thought has always been that the best player on a good team deserves the MVP. Of course, the fun thing about talking MVPs is that there is no standard. ;)

Yeah, I think he was injured for a few weeks earlier in the season. He's averaging something like 20 points, 10 assists. The reason I don't think that he could be MVP (although he should be talked about) is that his team is so good: Okur, Boozer, Millsap, Kirilenko, and Brewer are all players who could put in lots of minutes if they were on the best teams in the league. They've got some great guys on the bench too, like Korver, Harpring, Ronnie Price, and even Brevin Knight. So...with that kind of a team, you would expect your PG to average 10+ assists.

Yea, I do kind of have my own rules there. I just think that even though no player will ever admit that they are motivated by individual awards, for the elite players the MVP must be a goal of sorts.

That’s why I think if a player stands out by elevating his game (Shaq in 2000, Iverson, 2001) while leading his team to more wins than otherwise anticipated, he deserves the award. If no such player is around I also think it should be handed to the best player on the best team (As long as it doesn’t end up going to Tim Duncan again… ).

Ok, I think Deron needs adding to the poll. Paul Pierce is on the list after all, and not like he isn’t surrounded by star players (KG, Ray Allen, Rondo,… Scalabrene…).

Could be difficult to vote for him though when Chris Paul is already on the list. He’s putting up better numbers, even while his own organisation is trying dismantle his team:D!

(How do I edit the poll? Can’t find an edit link anywhere!)

U guys do also have to look at the impact that the player has on the team and how many games would that team win with or without that player.

Imo, Miami would suffer more without the presence of Wade than would Cleveland without Lebron (after Mo Williams' arrival) or Lakers without Kobe (Due to the presence of star players as Gasol and Odom).

Do u guys think that Nash deserved to win back to back MVP's in 2005 and 2006?

I think Nash deserved MVP rights in 2005 and his arrival in the valley of the suns resurrected the franchise and with his floor leadership spearheading the Suns patented offense, it gave Stoudemire a lot of highlight reels and Q -Rich a lot of treys that made PHX an overnight success and one of the best franchise turn - around in recent years. 62 - 20 baby.

While 2006, the NBA saw Nash's leadership to a new level when Stoudemire underwent Microfracture surgery. 54 - 28 despite many predictions of PHX falling to 7 or 8th in the west but finished second in the west. Otherwise D-Wade could have won it.
