Fatigue almost cost Gilas the game. Brownlee, Oftana and I think Perez played without relief in the 2nd half. But Tim Cone has no choice to expend his starters as his bench is not that deep.

An ugly win. But we’ll take it.

We’ve again reached the semis of the Asian Games. To the hardcore Pinoy basketball fanstics, What is our record when we reached the Semis? How many times did we advanced after the Semis?

Not sure about our record in the semis but I believe this is the first time we've reached the Asiad semis since 2002. Last time we won a medal was in 1998, which was incidentally coached by Cone.

Interestingly, Korea managed to "beat" China in the gold medal game despite Yao Ming, Wang Zhizhi, and Bateer. That just shows you the level homecooking that happens in the Asian games. lol

You need those rotations in KO competitions and playoff games, though. We have 34 hours of rest, though, need to take advantage.

Another factor is, over half the lineup is 32 and above, and only 3 are under 30.

i'd rather play a 50% scottie than a 100% Alas at this rate

i hope "casuals" will see this game and realize that its not all about scoring and flashy plays, i really don't get it why many are so high on perez when he just makes bonehead plays, yes he might score but its mainly due to one on ones and badshots that just happen to go in. kevin alas also "alas" showed why it takes more than just a willingness to shoot to become effective.

I hope to those who are critical thinking, we having this TOs issues since the 90s, its our chemistry and lack of prep is the main issue. Alas has been out of Gilas for years. CJ games with the same team is limited. With his high octane offense he is bound to make mistake like what CTab said about JC game

I think IF we do beat china its gonna be by no more than 7 points, its gonna be a huge struggle with fatigue playing major factor

Our team management and coaching staff should be ready tomorrow and make sure our players will be 100% ready physically and mentally expect the unexpected broken bus/ring, bad officiating and other tactic.

Playing 3 straight games in 3 days is not easy but i'm confident we can beat china.

wait is the game tomorrow or next day? AIScore sched is tomorrow oct 4...

not sure if kouame is not being used properly by timmy cone? surprised that he can't run a play from the post (not score but to start the offense in the triangle) unlike junmar

one good thing cone is doing is that he is utilizing oftana as a 3 and D player, its tempting to say that oftana lacks the "killer instinct" or plays too relaxed but imho i don't think oftana enjoys the one on one "bara bara" type of basketball.

Oftana is your typical 3nD, he stays composed and doesnt rush things

but back then korea is a sure semis not now, they even defeated by second japan team..

Asian basketball today is more competitive than 20 years ago… Iran is not powerhouse team back then, same with Jordan… it’s only China, Korea, Philippines, Japan and Kazakhstan back then… now even Saudi are competitive right now… Lebanon historically not always joining Asian games… they not prioritize this event unlike with fiba sanctioned events…

Oftana the perfect example of how you can develop perimeter players while still needing him to play the 4/5 when you have an undersized team (in college or whatever)

But remember we are playing China in China, where some shenigans happens… homecooking, undisciplined crowd, unfair advantage even in committee and even in warm ups, they will distract us… and China is on revenge mode against Gilas… they still not remember that JC’s 3rd quarter storm against them in last WC that give all of Chinese fans cry, even their commentator…

The four factors why Gilas lost their 20-point lead:

a. Turnovers (too many bone-headed plays and lazy passes that Iranians easily intercepted);

b. Offensive rebounding (our players lost the sense of urgency in grabbing offensive boards);

c. Technical fouls (our players complained alot about the missed calls. They should bear in mind that this is not the PBA, where the referees are more tolerant to them);

d. Perimeter defense (our players are not aggressive against the offensive player. Tamang taas ng kamay (just raised their hands without pressure), ok na).

Fatigue is the main one because they were blowing by easily

Credit to Japan for improving their player development and basketball program then. Both can be true. SoKor's on the decline (for how long, we probably can't say yet), and Japan have improved.

just like in china game in world cup we dominated in 3rd but homecourt advantage took the life out of China.

I think Iran's on a bit of a decline but not as bad as Sokor's

better pump the breaks on that statement, just because they've been quiet as of late doesn't mean they're still not good

i bet that if chot was still the coach the internalized racists here will blame him no end, but since its caucasian timmy cone he gets a pass
