Yet another 2-week practice team of PBA All-Stars about to be humiliated again.

So assuming the only available players for the Asian games would be coming from the PBA and China enforces only FIBA eligibility rules then we have a rather underwhelming pool to choose from.

Guards:
Scottie Thompson
CJ Perez
Chris Newsome
RR "Ben Simmons of FIBA" Pogoy
Marcio Lassitier
Paul Lee
Gian Mamuyac
Tyler Tio
Aaron Black
Kevin Alas
Juami Tiongson

Forwards:
Justin Brownlee
Jaime Malonzo
Calvin Oftana
Troy Rosario
Calvin Abueva
Allein Maliksi
Don Trollano
Arvin Tolentino
Javee Mocon
Jeron Teng

Centers:
Junemar Fajardo
Japeth Aguilar
Justin Arana
Beau Belga
Isaac Go
Justin Chua
Raymond Almazan

Yet another 2-week practice team of PBA All-Stars about to be humiliated again.

Abueva's old, Marcio's old, June Mar's old, Japeth's old, Troy's ineffective, Lee's now a liability, Oftana stagnated as an international player, Malonzo hasn't shown anything thus far in FIBA, Arana's stuck as a 6'7" low-post big, Beau is a slow 6'5" guy who can be of some use for post D. The only players under 30 in that list are Arvin (27 going 28), Malonzo (27), Oftana (27), Mamu (24), Mocon (28), Arana (24), Black (27), and Tio (25).

Far cry from the generation of Castro, RDO, Jimmy, Terrence, Pingris, Chan, and Gabe.

Im pretty sure the current PBA players in the world cup roster and those who were cut would be carried over to form the Asian Games team core. And Clarkson's slot would be taken over by Justin Brownlee. So those are already 9 players and Im thinking they would tap 3 more players from the PBA pool to round out the team unless they miraculously invite Justin Baltazar to the team which is highly unlikely.

Brain Drain in the PBA is real. The best players are either abroad, ineligible or in college. And those in college will probably go abroad too.

Depending how SBP and PBA adjusts to their dying league.

good point. i dont think PBA is dying tho. they are still the premier league in the PH. sure revenues are down and gate receipts are down but i don't think team owners care about it that much at all.

Good point.

Looking at the upcoming draft, it seems their talent pool will be replenished. Too bad these new draftees are not good or ineligible for FIBA ball.

true, the talent pool seems to be better, but we all know what will happen and where these talented players in the draft will go eventually :D
also afaik PBA has changed its rules on PH players playing on foreign leagues as well. i think they made it easier for them to return.

Brandon Ganuelas Rosser is a must.

If only Sedrick Barefiled and Remy Martin are invited..oh well.

If we are to be systematic about it, lets pick guys that we will actually use in the next cycle. No Thirdy please. Lets minimize the ineligibles. Lets give our new eligible pool candidates reps.

plus we are not even sure about the eligibility rules that the host china will impose, and knowing how crook they are they might not allow non fiba eligible players

We certainly have alot of promising young players but most of them are either playing over seas or are still in the collegiate leagues

Possible to give them the biggest advantage.

Possible to give them the biggest advantage.

them and South Korea are notorious for home cooking when hosting sporting events , i still cant forget when South Korea imposed a residency rule when we want to use Blatche in the 2014 Asian games while China did us dirty in the 2015 FIBA asia championship , that is why i am really hoping for Gilas to beat them in the classification round

Dont hold your breath, i predict ROS reinforced by 3-4 players will be sent. One of them is JB.

  • China will probably send their A Team minus Anderson as they don't want to be embarrassed on their own turf.
  • Japan wont have its US Based players (Yuta, Tominaga, Rui) and BLeague will be on full swing.
  • West Asian Teams: I cant remember if they send their bests to this tournament considering the big 3 (Iran, Lebanon, Jordan) were also busy and heavily taxed this summer in the WC. Plus domestic leagues might also be on full swing . Qatar might probably spring some surprises.
  • Korea wants a Redemption Tour after their WC and OQT Fiasco. Word is, they reset their program and AG is the test tournament of this iteration
  • CT: Ready for CT's Redemption Tour 2.0? ( or is it 3.0 now)
  • SEA Teams: Might be interesting if organizers allow non-FIBA approved heritage players.Thailand may field competitive team if allowed. Indonesia will probably go full-strength too, need to see Bolden and DMX again, Maybe.
  • North Korea. LOL. not even invited i guess.
  • Mongolia: 3x3 is their strength so no.

Agree.
2 or 3 ineligible plus Brownlee as our NP would be ok for me.
