I think Gilas is still lucky that even if we ended up No. 2 in Group C, we'll be facing a depleted Iran team (w/o Haddadi, Jamshidi, Yakchali & Amini) in the quarterfinals. But we have to deal with Qatar first in the qualification for the quarterfinals knockout game.

Look at Korea, they ended up No. 2 in Group D, hence they play Bahrain in the qualification for the quarterfinals knockout game. If Korea subdues Bahrain it faces host China in the quarterfinals. That is a very very tough game. Look at Taiwan, it ended up No. 2 on group B. It has to battle Kazakhstan in the qualification for the quarterfinals knockout game. If it handles Kazakhstan, it has to deal with Japan in the quarterfinals.

This I say, I would prefer meeting a depleted Iran team in the quarterfinals than either China or Japan.

Still don’t underestimate Iran team… their cohesion, chemistry are solid..

Of course. Iran beat Saudi Arabia by 15 pts, hence Iran is really a dangerous team despite the absence of its potent scorers. What I'm saying is that I see China, Japan, Korea & Jordan as the better teams in this Asian Games than Iran.

I think this Iran team couldn't match Gilas' offensive firepower so the Iranians would compensate for it with its solid defense & by playing physical against us. So we should expect that kind of game from the Iranians.

Huwag lang tayong alatin sa outside shooting, I'm confident we will handle Iran.

Actually, our gilas womens have better chance to make it to the semis than our mens team… the possible QF opponent of Gilas women either India or North Korea… but we have a game vs Japan, They should not lose big to avoid quotient situation… top seeded teams in each group of 3, they will get top 3 seeds while best and 2nd best 2nd seeded team will get 4th and 5th seed… we should avoid the worst place 2nd seeded team in the group to avoid any QF match up against either Japan, China or Korea early… so far our quotient points is +60, good enough to avoid worst 2nd seeded in each group… we should not lose to Japan too much point differential in case we lose the game today…

Korea is already for sure out of equation… they will likely face China in QF and I don’t see them winning vs China.. Ratliffe already past his prime and Father Time is already catching up…

Sounds familiar?

Senior citizens of the South Korea Basketball Association are not interested in international performance.

They're just sitting in chairs, reminiscing about the past, laughing and talking.

The coach of the Korean national basketball team is an honorary position

Why?

Due to the lack of capital of the Korea Basketball Association, the head coach will be provided with only $3,000 per month

Who wants to lead the national basketball team in such a poor environment?

South Korean Basketball = Big fish in a little pond.

Japanese basketball = Global trend.

South Korean basketball is a very old-fashioned basketball tactic that is far from the global trend.

Last tweet of the day.
South Korean sports are the birthplace of corruption dominated by school seniors and juniors.

International performance cannot come out as incompetent coaches dominate the seats.

skor basketball program has been sh*t since marcial and long hair visited then a while back

6'3 Natural PG Ibrahim based on WC and last night performance to me (just my opinion) has performed better than any "eligible " Filipino PG for same competition. (Basically I think that's Thompson and Kiefer ). I think the 2 are probably the best eligible current Filipino PGs

https://www.fiba.basketball/basketballworldcup/2023/player/Freddy-Ibrahim

Well, one must be delusional to believe that either Iskati Thompson or Kiefer Ravena is better or even within the same level as a Freddie Ibrahim. Ibrahim would easily make it to the top 3 best point guard in Asian basketball right now.

Not that it matters but IMO Bolick>Thompson/Kiefer. Dunno if he's at the same level as Ibrahim though or if he'll ever be invited again. Maybe when he's playing for SMC again.

I agree as of now I think Bolick is the best option as the primary point guard for Gilas, Scottie Thompson and Kiefer are servicable back ups. If those rumors about Panopio coming over to Ateneo is true then that would be a welcome development for the PG options of Gilas.

Gilas womens suffers blowout loss to Japan (96-59)… but still they will enter QF either 4th or 5th seed and face possibly North Korea… they can beat NK but they have to study their opponent well how to beat them… a win there will be enter themselves to the semis of Asian games in their maiden participation…

too bad he's blacklisted, for the PBA and SBP he doesnt exist......could have been a great core member for Gilas moving forward

Eumir Marcial with a KO win. That was nasty.

And he has favorable semis bout against unknown Syrian fighter... But he should not over confident... He has the chance to win our 2nd gold medal in the Asian Games

A totally unfair groupings in Womens basketball, As Gilas Womens falls to worst 6th seeded team even they are better quotient than India in 2nd seeded teams in their respective groups (Gilas has +23, while India has -32)... Total unfair treatment for us by the host China... I know Gilas womens are not medal material but they should be the one who will face North Korea in the QF than India... Totally disappointment from the Organizers of the event... Even they didn't give information what will be the pairings for QF... They are not transparent... China sucks as host....

Which is BS given what we learned from our PGs in the WC. He should have been invited then. Maybe we could have won one more game..

is eumir marcial legit 5'11" in height? boxrec has him listed at 5'8" while wiki has him at 5'11". i thought he was undersized for his weight class before but 5'11" is actually a good height for his class, i guess fighting mostly against 6-footers in the olympics made him look smaller

This is Marcial standing f2f with Isiah Hart who is listed 6'2.

Based on: https://www.heightcomparison.com/

Marcial seems like a legit 5'11.

Excited for Eumir. It’s about time we had successful boxers in Middleweight+ divisions.

Hope he can be our Canelo Alvarez
