Gilas players, and PBA players in general, should check their fundamentals. I know this is a win against Thailand but "bad fundamentals" is quite glaring here.

Missing rotations, cramping up the floor instead of spacing it, hardly looking for favorable matchups.

The thing about banking your shot is that, kahit malakas ng kunti yung tira mo, there's still a very good chance na papasok yan. However if you take a short-range shot or a point-blank range shot without using the glass, kunting disruption lang sa tira mo, high chances are, you'll miss the shot. And it's very frustrating missing a gimme or tutok na tira.

you know why Jason Castro is so good? because whenever he drives for a lay-up he will bank it. he knows the basic eh.

If we go back as far as 90's PBA, guys like Alvin Patrimonio, Vergel Meneses, Bong Hawkins, Jojo Lastimosa, they were very good at banking their shots. At mga sureball ang mga tira ng mga yun, especially Patrimonio. Patrimonio is the type na kahit well challenge ng 6-foot-7 import ang tira nyan from close range, pag binanda ni Alvin ang tira nya, that was almost a sure field goal.

would it be crazy to say gilas could win this tournament

This not so pleasing win over Thailand is an indication that we should temper our expectations. I say, a top 4 finish is the most realistic expectation.

I would be very happy & satisfied if we finish with at least a bronze medal.

Indonesia has sent a much worse team thatn Thailand but..and Korea only led by 14 against a non shooting team of qatar

Shall we call our coach Tim "Bronze" if ever that happens? Hehe

Korea and Japan win their respective matches as expected but Qatar and Indonesia did good both this match… I expecting them (Korea and Japan) win by more than 30 pts but Qatar and Indonesia hang on and put a fight against more favorable teams….

Indonesia has a system.. they are using European style.. but talent still lacks for Indons… they should called Prosper atleast to have a big man for them, Passport only rules required for Asian games… Qatar did OK for me… Koreans has always hard time facing bulky Middle East teams… Both Indonesia and Qatar show promise that they will look forward in the future…

Perhaps Korea & Japan rested some of its key players. They were confident of winning their respective matches today.

I think both Korea & Japan are looking forward to their big collision to wrestle the top spot of group D so they were preserving their respective key players.

OT: Outside from Obiena and Diaz… who do you think our gold sources in this Asian games? As of now we are 0-1-5… we might not surpass the 4 gold haul last 2018… If Yulo was there for sure he will deliver golds for us… bad performance so far in the early days of competition in Asian games…

Maybe yes but I saw frustrations from both Japan and Korea that they can’t beat their lighter opponents by more than 20… but anyway still a win…

Alex Eala almost beat Chinese opponent last match… I see her potential to be a world champion in near future… but good thing she won bronze despite that she still 18 facing against veteran players in asia…

This is one reason why I envy some of our neighboring countries! Even in sports events like this, we can't excel. Dunno if this is a microcosm of how badly our country is being run or how poor we are as a nation, but I hope something will change in the future.
