I'm interested on Taiwan's team in the Asian Games. I think Taiwanese basketball is on rebuilding right now although this squad in the Asian Games has some veteran national team players like Tseng "Long Hair" Wen Ting.

Among the promising young players in the squad are 6-foot-2 Abbasi & 6-foot-3 combo guard Beson Lin.

Lived at the Al Khor community. It was pretty barren when I first got there but it so different now? Was it DESS? My sisters studied in there before. Small world lol. If you guys lived inside the community we probably know your family as the Filipino community there was pretty tight back then

No, I don’t think so. I lived in Al Khor but my dad decided to send me to a school in Doha. I just took early morning buses. We could have stayed in Doha but rents were too high by 2005.

Qatar was boring back then regardless of where you lived, so I mostly stayed home and played PS2.

I checked the bracketing for playoff round… if we make it to the top of Group C, they will face the winner of A2 (probably Saudi) vs B3 (probably Mongolia) and if probably win then we will face B1 on semis (probably China) while if we just 2nd placer in Group C… we will go to play in round vs D3 (probably Indonesia) and if win, we will face A1 (probably Iran) and if we win again then we will face D1 (probably Korea or maybe Japan)… I would rather take the lose vs Jordan and go to other route (Iran and Korea) than winning the group and probably facing China in semis… I have doubts if we play China in their home.. we all know something’s fishy if we play them at home… I don’t like that chances… if we play China in neutral arena, we can beat them 85% chances… but not on their home soil… I’m worried on their silent moves…

I think you got it wrong bro. If we top Group C, we will face the winner of A2 (most likely Saudi) vs. B3 (most likely Mongolia) as our quarterfinals opponent. If we win in the quarters, we will face most likely Korea in the semis(that is if Korea tops Group D & beats its quarterfinal opponent).

On the other hand if we are No. 2 in Group C, we'll face the No. 3 team of Group D & if we win, we will face the No. 1 team of Group A, probably Iran. Then if we win in the quarters, it would be China awaiting us in the semis (provided that China tops Group B & it beats whoever it faces in the quarters.

GIANNIS got it right. China's in the bracket if we top the group, while we face Iran and SoKor if we finish as runner-up.

I based my analysis from the recent FIBA Asia U-16 Championship tournament format which I think is the same as the tournament format of the ongoing Asian Games

the format for Asian games is same as FIBA Asia cup… if Gilas tops the group, they are automatically qualify for QF… if not, they will play in play in game for QF…

I based my analysis from the recent FIBA Asia U-16 Championship tournament format which I think is the same as the tournament format of the ongoing Asian Games

here was the grouping & the placing of the teams after the elims of the recent Asia U-16 tournament:

Group A
Australia
India
Lebanon

Group B
Japan
Iran
Qatar

Group C
NZ
Jordan
Korea

Group D
China
Phi
Malaysia

Here are the groupings of the ongoing Asian Games:

Group A
Iran
Saudi
Kazakhstan
UAE

Group B
China
Taiwan
Mongolia
Hong-Kong

Group C
Jordan
Phi
Bahrain
Thai

Group D
Korea
Japan
Qatar
Indonesia

Let's make a hypothetical scenario in which Gilas emerges as the No. 2 team of Group C. Now since Gilas is in Group C in the Asiad, it takes the situation of Jordan in the recent Asia U-16 tournament (Jordan emerged as Group C's No. 2 team in the U-16). Jordan faced the No. 3 team of Group C & after it won that game, it faced Australia (being the No. 1 of Group A) in the quarterfinals. It turned out that Australia beat Jordan in the quarterfinals. Guess who Australia faced in the semis? Its the Philippines who beat Japan (the No. 1 team of Group B.)

In the Asian Games, who is expected to be the No. 1 team of Group B? China, di ba?

Of course we are just talking here of the most likely scenarios.

Gilas women wins vs Kazakhstan 83-69… their next assignment is against Hong Kong… another warm up game before facing tough Japan team… but I don’t get in the women's side how they will pair the QF matches after the prelims? Aside from top 2 in each group, only 2 3rd seeded team will advance… Still unknown who will gilas women face if in case they will reach the QF… one thing for sure for me, avoiding Korea, Japan and China should be the prayer for coach Pat to have a chance reaching semifinals… if not, then sorry for them.. for sure China, Japan and Korea will be the top 3 seeded teams…

Gilas Womens 83 - Kazakhstan 59

Janine Pontejos 21pts 7/13 3pt,
Jack Animam 9pts 12rebs

Now if for instance, Gilas tops Group C, it will face the winner of A2 vs. B3 game as its quarterfinal opponent. Now in that scenario, Gilas takes the situation of New Zealand in the Asian U-16 in which it emerged as the No.1 team of Group C. NZ faced the winner of of A2 (India) vs. B3 (Qatar) in the quarterfinals & after NZ beat Qatar in the quarters, guess which team NZ faced in the semis? It was Group D No. 1 team China.

Which means that if Gilas wud top Group C & subdues its quarterfinal opponent, it will face Group D's most likely No. 1 team which is Korea. Unless of course Korea gets beaten in the quarters.

Nope bro… the format is A vs D and B vs C in the semis… check this Asian games website

edit: I read it carefully, Jamskie is right… when I look again the website.. it’s A and B in the first bracket and C and D in the 2nd bracket… my bad… so that means we have to win vs Jordan to avoid China until finals… it’s better to face China in the finals than in semis…

Ah OK. So it's different pala to the format of 2023 Asian U-16 tournament pag dating sa semis.

Actually you nailed it… I read the competition website… A and B bracket will be in first bracket (game 29 and 30) and C and D are (games 31 and 32) in the QF.. that means we need to win vs Jordan to avoid China in semis.. If we lose to Jordan, we will go to A and B bracket

Gilas Mens 3x3 still undefeated after 3 games

A win over Mongolia on Friday would complete a sweep for Gilas and an outright berth in the knockout stage.

After the Philippines, running second in Group A is Chinese Taipei (2-1), Mongolia (1-1), Jordan (0-2) and Hong Kong (0-2).

The top team in each group will automatically earn a quarterfinal slot, while the next two teams will make it to the qualifications where the four other quarterfinalists will be determined.

TIL, the Men's 3X3 Tournament is restricted to U-23 players

Gilas will be a tired team in the semifinals if we go the difficult path as the qualification to qf, quarters and semifinals will be no break...

It will be easy sailing for Gilas against the Thais today but it will be a see-saw against Jordan on Saturday. A dogfight, a pitch battle that an outcome could be decided on how tenacious the winner can be. It could be like Gilas-Dominicana type of match…

Starting unit of Jordan :

SF - RHJ 6”7” (no further intro)

PF/C - Ahmad Al-Dwairi (aka Ahmet Deverioglu) 6”11” Turkish-Jordanian who won Euroleague championship with Fenerbahce in 2017.

PF/C - John Bohannon 6”11” NP played with G-League, NZ-NBL and Kaohsiung where he team-up with J.Brickman. He is a product of NCAA Div I UTEP.

SG - Sami Bzai 6”3” American-Jordanian from US NCAA Div2 SE Oklahoma State

PG - Fadi Mustafa (aka Freddie Ibrahim) 6”3” Canadian- Jordanian from US NCAA Div2 Tampa

take notice all of Jordan’s starters honed their basketball abroad. No home grown. The reality of internationalisation of basketball. Without borders it should be like that. Maybe unfair to many but our world is changing…

Nah! Its just 1 extra game if we finish 2nd in Group C & it's against a light opponent, either Qatar or Indonesia. In fact I see Gilas benefiting from that 1 extra game as it could further improve the team's chemistry & assimilation with the triangle offense, especially among the 5 late replacements - Ross, Lassiter, Tolentino, Perez, Alas.

Key players like Brownlee, Junmar, Kouame, Perez should just be given limited playing in that extra 1 game - qualification to the quarterfinals game.
