Actually I’m pretty sure OverratedTabBaldwin is PeeZones. Makes so much sense with the delusion, unintelligence and failure to address any point.

Jesus, another incorrect and opinion-based statement. Basketball is the third most popular sport in the world today with over 2.2 billion fans. And yet here you are spouting this rubbish that nobody cares about basketball? The self-hate in this forum by these Pinoy fans is off the charts.

Umm try again sweetie.

Most countries still don't give a flying fvck about basketball and that's a fact, it is improving in the past 10 years tho. You can post articles and numbers of viewership all you want, it won't change a thing.

whats your source for this or is it just more ''trust me bro'' :D

I've been to Bahrain. Basketball isn't really their sport just like most countries in the Gulf it's still football. Though their NT is getting better I don't really think they'll ever be a serious threat. Most locals just don't care.

Same for Qatar and UAE where I lived till I migrated to the US.

Though that was a while ago (2001-08). Not sure how things have changed now.

Lived in Qatar from 1999 til 2004. Been to the UAE also. Nobody is into basketball except expats.

My ex was in the airline industry so I still visit but it's still the same in Qatar. They're just doing it for sportwashing and bragging rights

Sorry bro… the recent FIBA World Cup viewership disagree with your statement… a total of 4.6 billion who tuned in overall last fiba World Cup… a testament that the world is also tune in last WC…. The event have a chance to match the popularity of FIFA WC, if those NBA superstars care about this event… I don’t think NBA and Olympic basketball viewership will match that 2023 FIBA WC viewership…

how will olympic basketball compete in viewership when fiba wc have more than double the number of teams, more than double the number of games, and countries with huge population and popularity of basketball but does not have an elite basketball program (e.g. China, Philippines) can have an easier path to qualification.

It changed already… before, you don’t see them parading a team in Asian games or FIBA Asia… but now they are regular fixture already… same also in Indonesia… FIBA already did a great job giving them opportunity to participate and make basketball also a option outside football… actually, this is Middle East region 2nd most popular sport after football… Qatar will host 2027 FIBA WC, Abu Dhabi hosting 2nd straight NBA pre season games, Saudi hosting numerous 3x3 events… Lebron James is the first NBA superstar to visit Saudi last month…. Football is still the King sports in the universe… but if you talk about me what sport can rival football in popularity? It’s basketball… the only sport after football that has international mileage in terms of fan following in all 7 continents… like football, basketball also a simple sport.. just you need a ball and a hoop and you can already play… same in football … just need a stick and a ball and that’s it… other sports are too expensive just to play even in a pickup games..

That’s why FIBA WC should be the main international event for basketball than Olympic basketball… basketball in Olympics is not the main event in the whole Olympic sport… while FIBA WC is purely just basketball… with that huge numbers in viewership.. FIBA has already leverage to put Olympic basketball as U23 event… imagine they get that huge viewership w/o NBA superstars participating… how big potential FIBA WC will be in terms of popularity if NBA superstars will play? Sponsors will come left and right just like FIFA… and they will be more famous if they play in a world competition like FIBA WC… not anyone on earth will care NBA while Olympic basketball is just a sideshow in Olympic event… but half of world’s population will care about fiba World Cup because it is country’s pride… no one beats national team games…

Where in Qatar? I lived in Al Khor from 2004-08.

Yeah, it’s obvious. Still a better deal than having it in Saudi though.

Looking at Qatar’s team get trumpled by 30+ by a Japanese B team, they got their work cut out for them.

Will four years be enough time to form a competitive good enough by 2027?

China send a team that has length that would bother our passing game.. Japn send a very good team

FIBA should give them ultimatum (just what they did to Indonesia) to avoid shame in the main event… A top 8 placer in FIBA Asia cup should be the target if they want to play in 2027 WC…

A total of 4.6 billion followers care about basketball… I don’t think it just only China, Lithuania or Philippines who care about basketball bro… you can add all of their population, still not enough to reach that 4.6 billion… that is already more than half of global population cares about basketball… the only World Cup event that has more viewership is FIFA with having more than 5 billion watched last year…

Agreed. Some Pinoy forumers here think that basketball is some esoteric sport that only a handful of countries care about. They can't seem to wrap their head around the fact that basketball has become global.
