stop it, you don't know better than fiba

FiBA was actually concerned with the lack of competitiveness of Gilas leading to the World cup

you realize Philippines is the only host not to win a game in the 1st round since Colombia in the 70s

I know it is early but my anger toward Coach Boy Sikip is growing even more after seeing CJ Perez & Oftana play. These 2 could have contributed more compared to others if they were part of the WC team.

CJ PEREZ>>>>>>Skati AKA sa PBA lang magaling, Oftana >>>>> Malonzo AKA I don't know how to play basketball I just jump high!

Perez was part of the WC team but had mostly DNPs. Scottie and Pogoy are ahead of him in the rotation. Even now Scottie has much more minutes than him. I hope though TC gives Perez more decision making opportunities. The guy can score. Being a threat to score is important for shot creators.

Oftana and Arvin theoretically have similar skillets and height. Their stats in this game though are opposite. Oftana was efficient and had a plus 17. Arvin on the other hand was 0/2 and a minus 2. For a 28 win, that's low.

Lol the only deluded statement here is about FIBA rankings.

Boggles my mind how Filipinos think.

Notice how no other country cares about FIBA rankings other than Filipinos? Because it doesn’t matter, what matters is actually WINNING GAMES AGAINST QUALITY COMPETITION.

Based off FIBA rankings we’re “better” than countries such as Bosnia, Israel, Belgium & Estonia. When we all know if we were to play them we’d be lucky not to lose by 30.

While FIBA rankings are biased if you come from a weak region it is the only basketball ranking we have. Dave is right, we as a country spend so much for basketball but are not very competitive. Of course height makes a difference. But then we go to Japan who have shorter players than us but make the most of the players that they have. They dont even hire NBA NPs. So yes there's something uncompetitive in our basketball. Maybe it being so insular is a big part.

And Oftana stayed with his man on defense. Hopefully, we can see that against Jordan and in the knockout rounds.

Context, for population of 110 million, basketball being a religion , with easily 100k players and Ang spending 1 Billion pesos annually for his 3 teams , yes it's terrible returns in context easily 40 nations in the world that invest less , less participants and treat it as a minor sport have significantly better outcomes.

The returns on investment for a program like Filipinas Football, makes what we put into basketball embarrassingly pathetic (context )

Using your faulty metrics. China is ranked 29th with a population 10 times than the Philippines and an economy that is 3x bigger and yet just nine places better as far as FIBA rankings go. Basketball is also the most popular sport in China and yet have no FIBA or Olympic medal to boast of. Using your argument, China should just ditch basketball because they simply suck at this sport.

I stopped reading after this. This take is a classic case of a basketball casual who just learned how to use the Internet.

you realize that you're showing your true colors as a gilas hater? we don't need you here, just stay there in new zealand, don't they discuss basketball over there or maybe no one listens to you?

Wait a damn minute!!!! what does being competitive mean in the first place? winning?!?!?! un lang ang definition ba?

kawawa naman Argentina, hindi na sila competitive.. sayang huhu!?!?

Because nobody really cares about basketball outside of the Philippines, USA, Lithuania, China and probably Serbia. Think of the sport Rugby here in the Philippines and see how most Pinoys don't care or follow that sport, that's how 90% of the world view basketball.

Nope… all countries care about the rankings… higher rank teams have better chance to avoid “group of death” scenarios in fiba tournaments… and with recent fiba ranking update, many fans worldwide disagree on team USA as no.1 ranked team even they were disappointing last WC… so your post is non sense…

Jesus, another incorrect and opinion-based statement. Basketball is the third most popular sport in the world today with over 2.2 billion fans. And yet here you are spouting this rubbish that nobody cares about basketball? The self-hate in this forum by these Pinoy fans is off the charts.

Alright even if they do care about rankings answer me this:

The mighty number 38 Philippines vs the lowly pathetically ranked 44 Estonia.

Who’s winning?

The mental gymnastics some Filipino fans do to justify how pathetic we are is absolutely hilarious.

grabe, Filipinos really cannot move on... we are really the ones creating our own toxicity.. tapos na po ang FIBA World Cup, nagsisimula pa lang uli Asian gamea and we won a nice game..

and our U16 boys qualified for the world cup, we lost BIGTIME to China and Australia because our boys cannot handle size.. alam na natin problems in philippine basketball.. shooting, perimeter defense and agile and mobile wings and bigs..

time to move on.. grabe talaga..

Scottie since WC suddenly not as aggressive so scared of the TOs,and supposed to be overwhelming all around play just doesn't translate on the big stage.Definitely a team with a Oftana and a healthy Navarro is better than a Malonzo, who is a Ginebra dominator according to their diehards.

This forum is now dominated by toxic and self-hating Pinoy fans. Sad to see this forum go down the gutter, tbh.

We’re not self hating we’re just realist unlike you

Let me guess - you’re probably opening your most expensive bottle of wine to celebrate Philippines win over Bahrain?

Or did you use that when we triumphantly bet the basketball powerhouse that is Estonias under 21 team.

Nah. I stopped taking your posts seriously after reading this rubbish:

Don't take any satisfaction in beating a country that doesn't even care about basketball.
