As a basketball system enthusiast for a decade now, that Gilas tuneup game against LG was fascinating basketball wise. For anyone versed with basketball playbooks, Tim Cone is actually running vanilla triangle offense. Gilas running methodical tri base post ups with Junemar as anchor, pinch posts and blind pigs is such a contrast to Chot's freewheeling 4/5 out offense. It is quite impressive that the team is actually running the triangle smoothly given the short amount or preparation. However, it remains to be seen whether this will still work in the international level. Despite Gilas running the triangle is eyecandy for the typical nostalgic coach, signs of success may say otherwise. There is too much post ups and midrange shots, and the slow pace and bad spacing is really primitive for the modern game. And I think this may be the downfall of this team in the long run. Our talent level would really have to compensate for us to get the wins.

Gutang scoreless in 8 minutes of playing time

0/2 FG, 2 rebs, 3 assts, 1 st, 0 TO in 8 mins...that's not actually bad lol

I think its becoz in the KBL, while each team is allowed 2 world imports, only 1 import can play at a time. The LG Sakers wanted to simulate that in its tune-up game with Gilas.

yeah looks like they did, their combined PT was 40 mins. who knows LG could've beaten them if the imports played together

btw can brownlee & kouame play together in the asian games? what's the rule on naturalized players?

Same rules as the last SEA Games, passport only rule, they can play together

oh, this should favor some middle east teams and japan as well if they let all their NPs play

Also would benefit a certain South East Asian Team, just look at their Passport Only Potential starters:

G- Mikey Williams
G- Jordan Clarkson
F- Justine Brownlee
F- Ange Koume
C- Andre Blatche

Gilas opponents and scouts will be in for a surprise seeing the triangle back in FIBA play. I think it will be amusing to see the clash of styles in the coming asian games. Gilas will have to really revamp and go back to the drawing board after the games though as the numbers are not in favor with that system. There is a reason why the triangle has been abandoned in nearly all competitive play.

OT: can anyone help me? I cannot post directly without having to add a link in the post first. The forum says that I have to first add a link or photo before I can post. Thank you.

PBA should give Kouame a special dispensation for him to play as local in PBA. Naturalised players who originally came from a third world country must be accorded that previlege. However if an NP came from States he should not be allowed to play as local. We could have done it to Ben Mbala…

Would that guarantee an exemption with FIBA say in about 4 years?

I hope Oftanas revert to his college days physique. He looks too heavy/bloated now! Probably the reason why he has a hard time staying in front of the player his guarding.

Oftana gained a lot of muscle recently. He was utilized by Chot as a spot up shooter on the corner. I hope Tim Cone gives Oftana more freedom kinda like what Yeng Guiao did when Oftana was at NLEX.

this team is based/ too OP, of the stars were aligned this could have been a great SEA games or Asiad team.

Gilas pilipinas can reach the semifinal round of the men's basketball tournament.

25 years ago was the last time team philippines won a medal in the Asian games of the men's 5x5 tournament.

This could be Oftana's breakout performance in international basketball. With the way he played yesterday versus the LG Sakers, I can see the confidence that he has in his game now.

If he has a breakout performance in this AG,then he should be in all the OQ games.
