I haven't watched the games in full yet, but based on previous history and newsreports, I prepared the following scouting report after the fact. No one's gonna use this anyway.

Coach:
Tim Can - and boy, Tim Did.

Manager:
Al Chewya - a growling tiger wielding disproportionate power. Cross him and he'll chew ya up and spit you out. orchestrates come-from-behind victories so the victory against china was unsurprising.

Junmar Paardous - heavy footed, arduous mobility, but immovable in the paint once his feet are set
Japeth Agulat - long time Gilas member. "Agugulat" pa rin siya during big games though, and opted to retire
Scottie "Long Thom" soon - questionable outside shooting for a guard. but he's working on it.
Chris Nuisance - pesky defender.
Marcio Lastenter - among the last to enter the team as a replacement to deadweight Bugoy
Just-in Brownlee - basketball savant who was tapped just in time for the Asiad. a black/brown Bruce Lee
Anj Kouame - has a no nonesense, efficient game, walang ka kouame-kouame, unlike the jeered and exiled coach
Kevin Alas - the hidden ace who contributed in the later stages of the tournament
Chris Cross or Chris Loss (?)- has an average cross-over; got lost in the rotation
Calvin Offsana - relative inexperience in high level games lead to frequent off nights. could be an asset when his game is on, but opponents prefer his game be always off.

Palu Chot Layas - entitled, ousted coach who never got to utilize his extensive database of dramatic excuses. Fan uproar led to his ouster and consequently, Gilas won the crown. proof that fans have more basketball sense than heads of the Samahan ng Buko-vendors ng Pilipinas.

Everyone think Japan is the best team in asia? Anyone who got the best reasian record by not advancing to second round would be a just a mere wild card..

Still hard to admit, Yes!!! They are the best team in Asia right now, They are the only Asian team since 2008 who beat an European team in Finland (Quarterfinalist in Eurobasket last year)... And they are the best Asian performer last WC...

Believe me bro, there's no way our players & coaches will take it easy in future tournaments or window qualifiers after this success in the Asian Games. Nobody gets tired of success. Everybody wants more championships/wins.

Just look at the SMC teams in the PBA, have they ever got tired of winning PBA championship?

Everyone is greedy with success.

That should be the mindset of every teams... Just look at Korea, they won 2014 Asian Games gold medal but after that they have no success in next tourneys....

The stars aligned for this win to happen as well. We were down by nine with less than three minutes to go against China until Brownlee happened. The odds of winning being down by nine under 90 seconds left is probably 1 in one million. We were destined to win this game after 61 years of heartache and disappointment.

To me, the semis game against China is probably up there with the semis game against Korea in 2013. The PBA will most likely enjoy historic viewership because of this win. This is the greatest achievement by the league in its 48-year history.

I will be afraid that after this Asian games victory, our national team will no longer have the hungry to win and will lay down the performance post Asian games… we still dreaming on playing in the Olympics and the only way we achieve that is the best Asian team in WC… when Korea won 2014 Asian games, their performance dropped because they don’t have hunger to win games… they were disappointed in 2015 fiba asia cup as they finished just 6th place and still disappointing until now… we should still work hard to achieve the biggest goal of Philippine basketball…the dream to play for Olympic basketball in our lifetime…

No alarmist post for the meantime. Let us savour our victory for at least a week… cease fire muna, magdiwang muna tayo…. Chillax people…

ORTG wasn't that good with 106.4. However, defense was our calling card, shown by a DRTG of 93. Forced 14.4 TO per game, and shooting percentages of 37% from the field, 30% from 3. We had a DRB% of 68%, which is a bad percentage, but our ORB% was 42.2, we attacked the offensive glass.

It was ugly. However, if it was ugly for us, it was uglier for our opponents as a general rule.

For Pre-Olympic qualifying tournament next year it’s proper that SBP should enlist Brownlee as NP. It will be a fitting send-off before he retire or before we find a replacement for him. I also wish the congress will grant a special recognition or a “Medal of Honour” for the whole Gilas squad and its coaching staff. And also wish that PBA will accord Kouame a special status to play as local in the league.

Thats great for Asia level. I mean Thompson averaging 8 rebounds and half of them are offensive rebounds.

But it wont do even against NZ level opponents. Hope we find shooters with ice in their veins.

Congrats din natin yung anak ni CCR si Josh Reyes di ba kasali siya as one of the Assistant Coaches? So may GOLD medal din ba yung anak? hehe

Yeah, I think he's part of the Asiad team. Also he steered Batang Gilas U-16 to the 2023 FIBA Asia U-16 tournament recently, so he deserves the credit.

I agree with some,

pole vault- Obiena would still dominate in next edition.
Tennis - Eala has so much upside.
Jiu jitsu - great performance this yr, surprising! we can be a powerhouse in asia.

Taekwondo - We hardly won any medals every asian games, we are not a power house. Our best jins are old now like Morriso, Alora and Lopez. barbosa and Alcantara is good, but they always fell short in asian games.

Boxing - we havent won gold since 2006, we dont have good prospects aa of now. If Marcial and paalam retires in Amateur boxing, were doomed.

wushu - we can excel on this sport, but china always dominate this sport. Its hard to win gold in wushu.

Weightlifting - our womens has good potentail like sarno and ando. Our mena not so much. And with the comeback pf North Koreans its going to be harder to win gold.

Swpak takraw - our mens team are improving. Still behind thailand, indonesia and myanmar, but theres a big improvement.

Gymnaatics - flennigan is good, but were still a 1 man team in Yulo. Without Yulo they are ordinary.

I hope in 2026, We will win more than 4 Gold, We can do this... Just a clear vision from POC and PSC.... Thanks for Jiu Jitsu for that clutch Golds for us.... We didn't expect them to deliver... Last 2 editions, We gathered 4 Golds each and 2 silvers each... Consistency, Maybe yes, But i think we are better than the results says...

I believe the Iran coach mistook some of our players when he stated that at least 4 of them are naturalised. For sure we got 2 legit NPs Brownlee and Kouame but he must have thought that darker-skinned players such as Perez and Ross are naturalised too.

People say this Asiad team was weaker than the WC team but I actually think this team talent wise was just as good. Wings and bigs could rival the WC team. The only player on the WC team better than everyone on this team was JC

But Kouame is better off playing his peak years in Europe if they'll take him. He can play in the PBA (if allowed) when his game dips. Jaworski and Asi were good enough for the PBA in their 90s, he he. Eric Menk, probably, could still compete. Williams and Ildefonso still are.

Chris Newsome, Scottie Thompson, their names alone would make a non-local suspicious.

FIBA rules and technicalities aside, can we really consider Kouame, a player who spent his development years here, an "import" in the truest sense?

One can argue that we win this with just one import, so to speak

And JB is legit residence of our country not other naturalized players more of a mercenary type.

Ok even with the age of google and fb highlights, having mistaken scottie thompson as a foreigner is like mistakingly identifying cristiano ronaldo sitepu as a foreigner, the turkish coach definitely going to technicality brownlee kouame and ross our ineligible

And our campaign in Asian games already finish, As Karate athlete J. Tsukii lost to Cambodian foe… our total medal is 4 golds, 2 silvers and 12 bronze… only less 3 bronze than the previous event but we are 2 slots higher than 2018, Last 2018 we are in 19th place, now we are 17th place… I hope in 2026, we will break that 4 gold barrier since 1958… I think we have good athletes who will win the gold next event… we are better than 4 gold medal standings…

I think the coach is technically correct. We have 2 NPs but we have a 3rd Fiba ineligible player in Ross. We might have had more if Perkins and Pringle got in. We followed the rules but Cambodia also followed the rules in the SEA games. Some of our Filfors got their citizenship through their grandparents like Lassiter.

Kouame though learned to play here. Newsome played college here. Yes the African genes helps. But these guys are far from basketball mercenaries. These guys have been here since they were young and are part of the community.

In the same token though we cant disparage countries like Qatar for naturalizing tall young kids. Kouame arrived here because of basketball. Same with Newsome.
