are you sure this was not just before half time? Maybe my memory slips :)

BEL had 5 fouls in 3 minutes at the start of the 3rd quarter. GRE was in the bonus for the last 7 minutes of the quarter.

We have a big disantvadage against Spain and it's name is Pau. Neither Bourousis nor Koufos can confront him. He must not take the ball near the post or else we will have serious problems. And we ought to hit some threes with a decent % if we want to win. If Spanoulis is in good form the threes and the victory are guaranteed imo.

Gasol will get his 25 points, 10 rebounds, 10 provoked fouls one way or the other. It is the other players we have to limit.

I agree with you individually but the combination of the two can definitely equal him thereby neutralizing his overall impact.

Yes ok, but was it because of the refs or because of them fouling?

He was talking about the two turnovers by span that were given as fouls, the foul of koufos that was given to us instead, and another play of span I believe, all in the first half I believe.

Ah, OK. I misunderstood then. :o

Aenaon; I might've confused the quarters, that wouldn't be anything new with my brain, really.
I can say Slovenia got a favourable refereeing vs Macedonia as well and even if it didn't matter all that much, It didn't feel well seeing Ilievski completely frustrated over a block after the ball clearly has hit the backboard. Referees can do a better job than this, I'm sure of it.

I hope that katsikaris won't be as fatalist as you are :)

It's not being fatalist. It is a strategic decision. Do you try to stop Gasol (with double team for instance) or stay tight on the shooters? Pasol is a good passer. I hope Katsikaris makes the right decision. If your way is better, than I hope he does that.

Here are Gasol's numbers in the 2 games ESP lost.

against SRB: 26 pts, 5 rbs, 2 ast, 9 provoked fouls.
against ITA: 34 points, 10 rbs, 1 ast, 9 provoked fouls.

Clearly limiting Gasol is not essential to beating ESP, although it wouldn't hurt either. His low assist rate in these games is crucial though. The guards didn't get going in either game.

Gasol might as well be unstopable in offence, from what I've seen in the tournament whenever Spain was defending and he had to leave the paint good things happened for the other team.
Also Koufos and Bourousis aren't Pleiss. If nothing else, they can be felt physically.

Exactly. You know what Gasol can do but he won't win a game by himself. This depends on Spain's guards playing well (something of a coin toss as someone said especially for Sergio) and on whether someone like San Emeterio or Pau Ribas will end up offering some help to the literally 6 good players Spain has.

Also, whenever help in the defence to Gasol is provided, it will mostly be from Antetokoumpo (2,11m) and Printezis, tall, athletic and talented pleyers.

I don't think so.
Against Serbia he had 16 pts and not 26. Big difference. And 5 rbs only.
Italy won because they scored 108 (!!!) pts. If we can score 100+ points against Spain, we will win, independently of what Gasol or any other Spaniard will do.

But I was expecting this answer ;)

But I was expecting this answer ;)

You were expecting my answer? Impressive. You should conduct both sides of the conversation by yourself next time. It would save us time. :D

It's true. Your argument "we should try to limit Gasol" was groundbreaking in its originality. ;)
Were you also expecting my answer to your not-very-unexpected answer? In this case, you are right. We can communicate telepathically and there is no need to write. :D

From your lips to God's ears (assuming God exists).

Btw, you've been proven right about Koufos. He was outstanding in today's game.

Actually, I have going on and on about Koufos and how good he can be is we play him at his strengths.
