When some IBN guys (or woman) were calling Lithuania an average team, i advised them to wait until Eurobasket starts. But then just begun some crap about "Lithuanians". Well, we are in semifinal once again, Italy had more talent, but basketball it's where Lithuania usually wins (It's what some people here don't like) By the way, some dudes write we won all 8 games vs Italy in Eurobaskets.

Now a little bit about an "average" team. Strong center, that many teams doesn't have (Italy is among them), some solid players, who play in Euroleague all their careers, some very solid defenders like Maciulis and Seibutis, one of the best 3pt shooters in Euroleague (Milaknis was so last season), pg, who was doing great until his injury and one of the best coaches in European basketball.

I also want to mention one thing that IMO showed really much. OT that we played against Italy and Czech Republic were won in a confident and strong way. That's what an average team wouldn't manage to do. This team deserves respect.

Cant we all just get along? No, okay then.

Considering my point that 'Lithuania as a semifinalist' is an 'insult to European basketball'. I stand by my words but need to make more exact what I meant. It's a current Team Lietuva's semifinalist status which I find pretty depressing for the basketball in Europe. And only because its roster is so mediocre from my point of view and not because Lithuania is some basketball midget or I don't respect their basketball history or something like that. Plain and simple, their current roster sucks and it's bad when such a roster is capable to go all the way to semifinals. Also I find a record like Ukraine +1, Latvia +19, Belgium -2, Estonia +2, Czech Republic +4, Georgia +4, Italy +10 to be pretty underwhelming for EuroBasket's semifinalist.

Similarly I found it to be a disgrace to European basketball when painfully mediocre Turkish team was the best performing team from Europe in WC-2010. Not that I have something personal against Turks or their basketball NT :) I even own some Karsiyaka's memorabilia :)

If this Lithuania as a semifinalist is an insult to European basketball, then Russia winning in 2007 was nothing but rape of international basketball as such. #Холден ;)

Congrats to the Liths. When you reach semis with this pile of crap of a roster,it's something really special,no matter the draw. You can't buy nor teach tradition, fighting spirit and the togetherness your team plays summer in and summer out.

finally atleast someone other than lithuanians understand why we have such results in last 23 years...This team 2015 shows the best side of lithuanian basketball, maybe you dont have super tallents, but until you have a true team that plays together good things can happen !

Team that played like a team against individually strong stars who tried to win by individual actions but not using team actions is insult to TEAM sport what is Basketball? That shows all you know about this sport. Maybye you should go and comment Tenis or Darts? Tomorrow we can win or we can lose, but one thing is clear - two basketball nations that knows how to be a team will fight in the semifinals.
And the only real insult to European basketball is Russian basketball federation with it's neverending scandals, with president of Russian basketball federation Sergey Chernov (ЧЕРНОВ Сергей Викторович) by nickname Cherniy Viktorovich (Black son of Viktor) buying referies (and nothing happens with him when he gets caught with it, i still have that amasing audio tape in my computer), with new president (friend of mentioned Sergey Chernov) Julia Anikeeva (Юлия Аникеева) witch became president in amasing voting (some regional federations were not called, some people told about preasure was used against them - process in court still is going), with Coaches who are asked to coach Russian NT and after some time they can hear in the press that they decided to retire (hello Katsikaris) with NT that has to play with pencil marked number on their back and so on. Finally some normal person comes to rule it and what he finds (surprise surprise) 220 milion (2.7 milion euro) debt. I just hope that he will have enough mental strengh to fight against that system.

Lithuania is team made out of winners, and Italy is not, at least if we take the records from last season. Without any disrespect to anyone, there is huge difference when you play in NBA and when you just "travel" with NBA teams(Gallinari and Datome) but don't actually get to feel the tension and competitive spirit on the floor, ie. get significant playing minutes. This impacts the morale and winning character of players. Honestly I thought Lithuania would win by 5-7 points(in regular period). Except Bellineli and Bargniani other Italian players are too "fresh" to have significant impact on the game outcome at this level. Also, I want to add that Lithuanian team is better then Serbian in that regards and if Djordjevic don't take ace out of sleeve or create some tactical "trap" we'll have hard time in SF.
Lithuania made out of winners? Historically no. And their palmares is there to show that Lithuania always disappears at the end of tournaments: one pathetic gold medal in 2003 and nothing else. They [Lithuanian fans] tried to explain that many times they met USA, forgetting they have been eliminated or defeated in finals by everyone. Lithuania shows always a high level team, organized, talented, skilled, well coached, but calling Lithuania "made out of winners" is weird.
They have always been a number 2, with many different number 1 who took a portion of history and wrote it (as Yugoslavia in 90s, Argentina between 90s and 2000s, Spain in 2000s), something that Lithuania has never made.

Italy is made by players with a very low IQ. You could see the last possessions with Hackett and Belinelli, or Gentile at the end of 40'. And Italy is not a defensive team at all: you can appreciate the three dunks Gentile had in third quarter but in the next possessions Lithuania had 7 points, and Gentile was responsible of them.
Basketball is played on both sides and Italy can't do it. And it's a pity because two players like Bargnani and Gallinari might have been able to lead national team to enormous successes if they were not only strikers. But they are, and Italy had an awful tournament: bad loss against a horrible Turkey, almost loss with Iceland, lucky win with Germany, classical Italian absurd shootout with Spain, slaughtered by Serbia, victory against a joke like Israel and then defeat against a Lithuania that will never enter pantheon of basketball.

Show me 3 millions country that has such results in any team sport ? Where country need to prepare entire team. You understand that little country is not just competing with giants of the world, but at some or other point even beat them. For us to be in top4 in any major tournament is a win and yes we already are winners this year. Its not about just gold medals, its about showing everybody you can do it doesnt matter how small you are.It would be ridiculous if 3 millions country would beat biggest world countries, tallent pools, way bigger money, naturalisations and so on all the time...
If you are not able to recognize Lithuanians as a winners in basketball you have to be blind...Once again we shown that big hearts from small country can make a difference !

People is not saying we are cinderealla story in 2015,just because of our history. But entire our basketball history is cinderella story, small country that is against all odds.

Oh come on, will you stop with this 3 million crap? Slovenia - ~2M, kick out butts in hockey, football and sometimes... wait for it.. big surprise - basketball. I don't follow handball or volleyball, but I bet they have much better results in those as well than liths.

Could you tell me how many medals in hockey, football and basketball Slovenia has. Please. :)

Yes, this story about the 3.000.000 is really pissing off. What about New Zealand that's a legend in rugby that - yes - is a sport played in few countries but practically always above bigger nations / pseudonations(*) like England, France, South Africa, Australia and Argentina (not including the ridicoulous Italy in the list and small entitites like Wales, Ireland, Scotland that have a population that's not much higher than New Zealand's one)?
And Jamaica in sprint races?
And Uruguay in football who had two world cups, two Olympic tournaments when they were like World cups and is leading Copa America with 15 trophies over 42 participations?
According to this per capita medals' counting, China and India should lead the world in all sports.

(*) "Pseudo" because the home nations of UK are not independent countries.

Yes some of our fans are exploiting size of country really too much, sometime it's pissing even me. But everything is known in comparing - go to football forums and try to debate with Uruguay fans and you shall see. And this year everybody wanted Lithuania to fail, everybody saw they team beating as, because we don't have the team we usually has and when it didn't happened excuses and bsh. started to rain. Yes sometime we react to it not rationally, but did you see many Lithuanian fans who after victory of some other team going to this team tread to tell that in reality they have shity team and they were just lucky...

Big Lebowski answered it - Uruguay in football achieved much more that we in basketball.

I love when someone start to change subject. We were talking about Slovenia remember?
And about Uruguay - yes it is great football nation and they are very proud about it.
