Euroleague 2010/2011 - Day 3

Well, Valencia is a good team and has got nice players. And also, this first weeks they played without De Colo and Richardson, two important players. I also thought they could win PAO in the first day.

But Valencia is discovering the Euroleague is very different to the ACB and the Eurocup. Perhaps they've got a short roster and Hussein is not a coach for any euopean high level team.

No doubt whatever Maccabi fans come to Beograd can book victory celebrations down on the splavovi in advance given their guarenteed victory, just like last year in Quater-Finals :D

I hope Partizan players share your optimism ;)

Anyway, Jawai - Sofo sumo battle should be epic

haha, it's hilarious that so many in here think that Partizan will be able to beat mighty Maccabi.

Partizan is worse than last year, while Maccabi has addressed the only weakness of last years team, signing Sofo, a top 5 center in europe.

Mighty? That mighty Maccabi, which lost about 20 points in Baskonia? There is a big difference between this team at home and at guests. And the same with Partizan. I would bet on home team here, inspite of the fact, that Partizan's roster is much weaker, than last year. What is more, they have their own school, while your team every year has different americans, and here i want to say that Partizan has better team play.

erm, no, you're wrong. All partizan has is a bunch of young serbs who don't play, they often come from other serbian clubs, which have even less money than Partizan. Like Jawai, Gist, Lafayette etc, it's Partizan which needs all those foreigners every year and they totally relly on them for one year, then they sell them. so what school are you talking about.

how many Israeles are on Maccabi team? What school?-definetly not Israelian school as there is no such thing  i think...don't even dare to compare Partizan and Maccabi in this area ;)

eeemmm... if Maccabi succesfully adressed all weaknesses from the past season, than Tau (or Caja sth. sth.) must've used some unaloved methods when they played against Maccabi, since no offense but Maccabi looked helpless against them for exntensive parts of the game- I guess that won't neccesarily be the case with the rest of the teams, but facing Tau, Maccabi did look weak. And as much as I aknowledge Ivanović, their great chemistry and nice talent... I don't think Tau will proove out to be a lock down top 4 team in europe neither...

Not saying Partizan is the sure thing there, game could easily go for Maccabi as well, but what you've just said doesn't make much sense.

The weakness Maccabi hasn't adressed for the past few years is playmaking.
Consider it the consequence of Parker, Saras and Vujčić departure (and those 3 all knew how to create for the team)... or Pini Gershon... or the fact that no US PG in Maccabi brought since really found their way in european basketball. Is it the lower level of players, those 3 superstars lost, hard hand of Gershon, less european style of the game along with different team chemistry or pure luck that's on every individual to decide what's that weakness that keeps Maccabi away from previous succeses. I bet on coaching factor being decisive, that's just imo, but nobody will convience me Maccabi repaired all their weaknesses this season - I've watched way too many games in my life to believe in such fairytales.

Maccabi fans that are here for a while are hopefully aware I don't mean any harm by saying that, but Maccabi isn't "all mighty" anymore. Maccabi is a top10 euroleague team, nothing more nothing less right now just like Partizan within the last few seasons...

7. And they're (allmost) all european veterans, so don't comment on this any further, it just makes you look stupid.

you're not correct, to put it mildly. Baskonia is the spanish champion and with their current squad they are sure enough one of the top 5 european teams in europe.

And don't be ridiculous, judging Maccabi on the one loss in Vitoria. Oh my, so they got powned by a much better prepared team on the road. So what. Does that mean that CSKA ( which is 0-2) is all rubbish? Olympiakos lost badly against Oldenburg, does tha tmake them a weak team nobody can be proud of? Give me a break.

Besides, Maccabi's last final in europe was in 2008, last year, they lost in the playoffs with some bad luck and because they had no center. that's what I was referring to, when I said that last years issues have been addressed.

I agree with the lietv pal, i do think that Partizan may well beat Maccabi, they are extremely motivated playing at home, last season we saw that, of course we all say now that Partizan squad was great, ever since we know the results they achieved, i perfectly remember RM fans moaning about having to deal with FCB "a sure defeat" (at that time), instead of Partizan "a sure victory". Same thing goes for Maccabi supps.
On the other hand i fail to see any "almighty" on behalf of the Maccabi squad.
I think that sofo played awfuly against FCB, so he missed a real chance to prove that he is one of the best C playes in EL.

gosh, don't hang yourself on this allmighty stuff, I just said it in relation to Maccabi, not necessarily the current squad.

Last years playoffs were won by Partizan because they had a dominant center and some insane three point shooting at a certain point. This year, things are different, and that's why Maccabi will teach Partizan and its fans the sounds of silence...
