2025 FIBA womens Asian Cup

The depth chart will be:

PG - VDJ, Naomi, Fajardo
SG - Villanueva, Sugapong, Pagdulagan, Castillo
SF - Pastrana, Ozar
PF - Dela Rosa
C - Animam, Surada (small ball big)

But because Dela Rosa is taller than Surada, expect it that Dela Rosa will play some small ball big if Animam will rest.. I don't know why Gabby Ramos is not available (what's the reason?).. I hope coach Pat will try to pair Animam and Dela Rosa together.. KDR can stretch the floor since she can shoot threes, so that the spacing will not tight.. and I hope Panganiban and VDJ can adjust already and be better for the main event...The goal is to beat Lebanon to qualify for World cup qualifiers next year.. Bonus nalang higher than that...if Coach Pat fails then SBP should think hiring new coach and put Coach Pat to other position...

the good thing about Kacey nowadays is that she improves a lot in terms of ball handling, positioning and outside shooting

thanks to her stint in the 3x3 program

she is still a work in progress but we could see her dedication and her goal after UAAP

play international.

as much as we want to include Gabby and Afril for this edition.

because of some unforeseen events.

we do hope Afril will be available for the coming SEAG instead.

same thing with Ramos hopefully for 2026 Asian Games and the hosting on 2027.

I had high hope on Kent Pastrana playing against AUS and JAP in her very first Gilas jersey

will certainly accelerate her potential moving forward.

height and length will certainly be a challenge on our womens program.

if only 6'0 Laila Phelia, 6'1 Chinew Ezeounu, 6'0 Lexi Mark and 5'10 Malia Bambrick are FIBA eligible

they could somehow address those things and close the gap in some areas.

expecting Kacey to be the difference maker this Asia Cup 2025. she already got reps in the Rwanda Pre-Qualifiers for World Cup as a stretch 5. this brings dimension that Jack lacks. maybe we also see Kacey as a stretch 4 alongside Jack. checking 3x3 games, they also run many PNRs for her. so expecting similar schemes for wherein Kacey plays the roller.

More than half of the team are guards. There should be no harm inserting another big. I'm sure Aquino will use Louna at 4 again instead of a wing.

I like coach Pat for his dedication and tenacity in finding talents but the way he composes the team, he's no different with Reyes junior.

Yes. In this tournament. New jerseys for RP
So are the new Adidas kits ready to be debuted?
Also looking forward on the uniforms of Gilas under Adidas. Being sponsored by one of the top sports brands in the world speaks about how significant our national team is. The reason why I am not in favor local brands (World Balance, Rebel, Delta, etc.) to be our official outfitter since it will be a significant downgrade. I'm ok if it is Peak, Under Armour, Puma or Anta.

Sir noy,

it's a long way to go.

with the inauguration of the very first womens professional basketball league here in the Philippines.

our female community now has another option to consider if they want to pursue a career in sports aside from volleyball and

football which I think it's still in the semi-professional level.

but then again it's all about introducing and marketing the sports specifically in the grassroot level.

the good thing is that it was one of the team sports that was played in the recently concluded Palarong Pambansa

that's a good sign moving forward.

SBP and other stakeholders should not stop promoting the sports domestically.

there's still a lot of Jack Danielle Animam and Kacey Dela Rosa out there

as for our overseas based organization like FNS, NABA, Tumakbo among others kudos to them because for the love of the game

they keep on discovering talent after talent and introduces to us thru NBTC.

with that large diaspora we do hope they could discover more tall girls in the 6'1 to 6'3 level in the years to come.

6'1 Grace Curley and 5'11 Ella Gustafson, 6'1 Samantha Medina and 5'11 Janea Wilson are just the beginning.

That's why SBP should talk to Kai's sister to go back to basketball.. She's 6'4 and her height suits in basketball than Volleyball.. She can be a mainstay for Gilas women even she's slow.. maybe a better version of Claire Castro is enough atleast to have a back big for Animam...

yes, really upbeat on FIBA Women Asia Cup 2027 to be held in Philippines. will watch all the games if possible. this will really boost up Women's basketball popularity in the grassroots. especially with Caitlin Clark effect right now in WNBA. my best guess is they might hold it in Cebu if the SM Seaside Arena is finished by then (Women's VNL is also scheduled there 2026 and 2027).

was backreading the thread since my last post from 2024 Rwanda WC Pre-Qualifiers, really good points on girls grassroots basketball, cultural aspects in why women bball lagged behind volleyball, and the emergent local pro league.

maybe too harsh to say that the current Women Bball program is not a winning one, but all the seeds planted in U16 and U18 from overseas-based girls is now in our pipeline, and we just need to be patient. if those tall and ready players can be integrated by 2027, then that's best case scenario.

watching the recent Jones Cup was painful to say the least. hopefully the team can target to beat NZL or KOR by 2027, better if they do it this year assuming we get past Lebanon.

Kids want to play the sports they like.

There’s more money and future in volleyball, so….

Sir Alas,

just leave her in the taraflex instead.

in Volleyball you don't need too much running and dribbling.

the basic core is timing and reflexes

those vertical leaps and strong smashing can be improve during practice and training.

well somewhere along the way we will discover tall girls at that level e.g. 6'3 to 6'5

and that would be overseas Filipinos with mixed race.

6'2 Jack Animam is mixed so that's the reference.

that is why we need to be patience on 6'5 Favour Onoh she may get that exemption just trust the process

as for UAAP, well, we do hope those stakeholders will always wake up in the right part of the bed and

always in the right frame of mind compared to their counterpart in NCAA whose mantra was forevermore(?) "the OLDEST collegiate league in the country".

Globalization is for real and if those young FSA decided to stay here for good because they've already fell in love on the country.

now who's to blame

I don't think they will fall in the category of mercenaries.

AK34 and Favour Onoh is a best example as far as establishing good education and basketball fundamentals starting from the HS level.

those people from the academe knows what I'm saying.

Sir noy,

just trust the process

continue establishing that strong network from different overseas Filipino organization from all over

who knows in the immediate future we could have our own twin towers like Brazil's 6'5 Kamilla Cardoso and 6'4 Damiris Dantas

just continue planting those seeds in U16/U18 and make WMPBL enticing to attract more investment and sponsors

considering that more and more female ballers with Filipino heritage are popping from everywhere thru NBTC and Manila Live Games.
