SMART GILAS Serbian Tour 2010

According to Coach Jude Roque, the starters of Partizan did not play.

Jude Roque- "Smart Gilas lost steam in the last 4 mins of play and fell prey to the mighty Partizan team of Serbia, 71-87. Even when the starters of the powerful Euroleague semifinalist did not suit up, the Serbians still dominated the game but not without a gritty stand from the hard-fighting Pinoys, who managed to rally from 17 pts down to just 7 in the last 5 mins. Lassiter sizzled with 24 pts while Casio chipped in 16."

Results don't mean much in these games, the key is to learn how to play against tall guys. I really like the "Smart Gilas" idea though.

From chris tiu's tweets...

- Gilas lost to Partizan 87-71 @ Pioneer Hall. 5 members of their 1st team plus 2nd team players. They were scoring from inside and outside.

- We had problems executing offensively & lost rebounding battle 42-20. 7'3 Nemanja Besovic controlled the inside. We shot poorly from...

- ...outside & cldnt convert our fast break attempts. Lassiter 21 pts. Casio 16 pts. Overall, we cld have played much better.

Ok ok.. I think they really had a bad game.. But still, credit our guys for giving a fight..

Can someone ask them if the crowd was there?? Maybe the hostility also contributed to the bad game they had..

@SunoverHstreet

Sir, how will you describe the 2nd stringers of Partizan?

i'll just quote him:

... But, what's most important is that their substitutes are also very good and even taller, so Partizan always manages to keep a high intensity game with constant changes, like in ice-hockey... Basically playing with hole roster.

anyway, running totals updated....

seems like gilas has a 50% batting average. and its their 70th game - by my count...

i think they need 70 more... ;)

Oh thanks. So it's not really a bad loss just like sinobball said results doesn't matter in this type of games. Who will they play next?

Woah.. Well, I won't say it's a nice game.. Because it isn't.. What's important is the experience they gathered.. (parang DoTA lang.. haha.. damn.. The kid in me believes that we have to get the fun back in this forum..)

I envy these Smart Gilas players not just they get to play quality (and not so quality) basketball, but also all the wonderful places they go to.. All this so early in their career..

Now they are playing Partizan A! Wow! They're going Euroleague now!

IMO, the best Asian team won't beat Hemofarm consistently.. But again, the 31 point loss spells it.. You're right, they are not there yet.. But the good thing is, they are on the right track..

If you put it in perspective, the no.1 club team fo Germany, EWE Basket, got beaten by 30-40+ points also in the 2009 Euroleague by the other top european teams. So I dont think we did that bad as compared to the other top european club team considering the Smart Gilas is still a work-in progress team...kudos to Gilas

Sorry for bringing the german angle here again.

Actually there were only two games, where they got beaten badly by Real Madrid and Panathinaikos Athens, while keeping it very close in the rematch.
In both games, they had to play without regular playmakers due to injury.
Also keep in mind that they didn't have the luck to play opponents those nights that kept all their best players on the bench to substitute them with players from the second team like Gilas did against Partizan.

Smart Gilas should not be underestimated

Smart Gilas should not be underestimated

The Serbians don't play barangay basketball, based on actual experience. Any of those team would have tried hard to destroy Smart Gilas. The Pinoy team obviously would have none of it. It is already the strongest all-Pinoy team ever. Only the fake national team with Dennis Still, Chip Engelland, Jeff Moore and other pure Americans can match it in actual basketball war conditions.

At the risk of saying this, ad nauseam, once a real "power center" is recruited to upgrade and balance the substitution in the frontline, and the small forwards are strengthened physically and reoriented for the very demanding defense/help-defense at the entire 3-point arc zone, the team will have far better results.

As for the very small guards we have, they can -- and will -- mount real ambushes when pedal-to-the-metal-for-medals condition are there.

Hey, even the under-13 national team boys are playing much better than we everr did during our ancient time!!!

Actually, it was 3 games, including Armani Jeans Milano, or almost 30% of all your games....and EWE lost 9 games out of 10 with another 2 more games by more than 10 pnts.

Cant wait until Gilas is a complete team when Chris Lutz and all their injured players are back in the line-up again. It's a bummer that we still dont have a real good center yet...Greg is all alone and he is only starting to get some playing time...imagine if Toroman develops him more.....Who is Gilas playing next?

No matter what, at half full strenth, I really think that Gilas will be a forece to reckon with in the near future.

As mentioned before, there were only two games where they got beaten as badly as you mentioned and despite there overall poor showing this season, you should at least bear in mind that they had to play most of these games without a regular playmaker, leaving it in the hands of a guy, who hardly even sees league action - that sure makes a difference.
A comparison to the Gilas games with Partizan is useless anyway, since Gilas didn't face more than beefed up second team of Partizan, while Oldenburg faced the top squads of these clubs.

If you want to provoke, then at least get the facts straight.

How about effort to consider alternative explanations rather than emulating from a subjective standpoint.

Can someone ask them if the crowd was there?? Maybe the hostility also contributed to the bad game they had..

Seriously doubt it. 99,99% marginal audience, if even that. Vague sourcing for an excuse.

A 7'3" guy on the bench?? Talk about quality..

Erroneous conclusion. To my knowledge, Besovic is a limited prospect. Some basketball commentators would label Besovic a "tree", literally.
