Promising High-school Standouts

So it's like saying that college guys who are older than other college basketball players are fake? Coz typically college guys ages from 16 to 21. So we can consider them fake as well? Is that what you're trying to imply?

So technically Escobal and Ekwe are "fake?" Coz I'm pretty sure Ekwe graduated at the age of 25 while Escobal I think graduated at the age of 23 or 24? And I think, but not very sure Aljamal did not graduate at the age of 21. So it means he is fake as well?

So if that's the logic here we have many guys who are "FAKE!" Oh my! We are being invaded by fake basketball players! :D

First of all, college students graduate are between 17 to 22. So stop fixing the age limits to try to justify that Ekwe and company are "fake".

And yes, players who stay too long in college are in a way "fake", because it means they end up playing for so long in college they are likely to make an impact with their team. That is why the NCAA and UAAP have imposed age limits in their league. In the NCAA, it is 23. And in the UAAP, it is 25.

And by the way, why zero in on SBC players? This is the kind of flamebaiting attittude that will get you nowhere.

Remember these kids are on basketball scholarships. So, most of their collegiate time they are not on "full load" to balance their academics.

Your Mark Bringas was part of the 2006 NCAA Juniors Champs, Staglets. He was at that time only at 3rd year HS and was already 17 years old. Mark Bringas graduated HS in 2008 as an 18 year old. Overaged. Same as with the current Staglet Almond Vosotros.

Jerome Rosal, 5’10” 135 pounds, Forward, Philippine College of Criminology:

Looking at his reed-thin frame, no one would expect this guy to be that good in a physical game. He makes up for it with speed and his incredible leaping ability. Rosal can dunk in real games as easily as he can nail the three-pointer, and he is a deceptive rebounder who gets tough ones in traffic. All this made him the MVP of the junior division of the inaugural UCLAA tournament as he led the Junior Enforcers to the title.

  2. Thanks for asking, kaiziken_pinas. I’m just taking a break, sort of got tired of reading and discussing about the same stuff everyday for the last couple of months about the RP National team. ‘Medyo nagsawa lang sa ngayon.’ LOL.
I went on vacation for two weeks without the internet, and then when I came back, I realized there are other things I could do.

I've seen him a couple of times on Gameface, using the nick Schortsanitis. He doesn't write about basketball there anymore, but posts a lot on the Manny Pacquiao threads. The last comment he had on basketball was about the U-16 team.

mark jayven tallo is really promising. however i doubt if he can excel in the collegiate ranks. it's still an intriguing outcome for us to see in 2 years time.

I'm a frequent visitor. but it's my first time to post. anyway, i kind a agree with Rhk111 about players playing 22 years old and above in college. because college bball should be developing players who will be professional players someday. and players aged 25 should be playing professional. the slot alotted to younger players who should be trained to be quality players where not given the chance because of this practice. Mature players had already reached their peak learning curve and yes they are more effective on court but their basketball IQ may not be special, so sorry for the younger players who have the potential but were not given the chance to fluorish. no wonder why we send the oldest lined of players in tianjin because majority of players tend to enter PBA at aged 25, imagine 25 james yap was mvp before he turned 25 and kenneth duremdes was mvp @25 years old. the playing years of a player is usually just until 35 years old. And same argument to the issues about china sending overaged players that we are all bragging in this thread. it's ashame that UAAP where the most prestigoius schools are playing and bright people are coming from are not even aware that they are major contributors to the stagnation of basketball in the philippines. so pls don't expect another kerby raymundo unless the SBP continue with it's program of developing young players. i hope UAAP and NCAA and PBL will lower their age bracket and cater to real talentswho are playing 10 years in their life and being beaten by the players who were playing 20 years in their life. developing skills is easier than developing maturity not just in basketball but also in life. maturity is having the right attitude and perspective and it takes time that's why college tend to pick players who are already "Mama" AND NOT THOSE dapat mama na mag-isip.

In the NCAA, they do not allow you to play college ball anymore at age 25.
One of the reasons why they allow you to still play college ball at age 22 is to accomodate transfer (local players and players coming abroad). In the UAAP, they require a 2-year residency for Fil-Foreign who are either fresh from HS or College transfer. For fresh from high school graduates, they need 2 years for their residency. By the time they start playing, they are either 20 or 21 years old.

dapat nga hanggang 22 or 23 y/o lang pwede maglaro sa college.
masyado ng mama ang 25 na lumalaban sa 16 y/o.

pag fresh HS grad, pwede ng maglaro agad sa seniors.
case in point, ryan buenafe.

I agree with that and i ask why don't they try PBL or amature clubs. Or why not go straight to PBA if they are really that talented. If we keep on doing this no kerby raymundo in 10-20 years. look at keifer ravena so competitive at young age so as Jr Parks. if we want to improve our Basketball aptitude we have to train our kids very well. Parang pag-aaral lang din yan ilaban mo ang 23 years old na student sa 17 years old na student mas mataas pa rin grade ng matanda kahit hindi matalino because of maturity. I'm in favor of COach E's ilaban sa matatanda. becoming the best is all about mind set. not skills or Talent but mental toughness and maturity. are players have to develop the perspective of a player who has already been playing for 10 years. Like what chris rock said about lebron james "Lebron james Looks like he already dominated the NBA for 10 years."
