Eto yung petition website:
https://www.change.org/start-a-petition

target the ginebra fans first. if you have a twitter account do it over there and over at facebook. if you're able to persuade the ginebra fans then good for gilas, if not, then prepare to get some death threats.

Gilas-Taipei rematch aborted as Reyes forced to decline Jones Cup invitation

•From: Reuben Terrado•
January 2, 2014, 06:55 pm

Gilas coach Chot says he was left with no choice but to turn down the Jones Cup invitation since the tournament will be taking place just days after the national team begins its buildup for the 2014 Fiba-World Cup in Spain. Jerome Ascano A REMATCH between Gilas Pilipinas and Chinese Taipei in this year’s William Jones Cup basketball tournament won’t take place.

National coach Chot Reyes said lack of preparation time forced him to decline an invitation to return to the annual cage meet one year after Gilas was 'uninvited' by Taipei due to a diplomatic row.

Reyes said he was left with no choice but to turn down the Jones Cup invitation since the tournament will be taking place just days after the national team begins its buildup for the 2014 Fiba-World Cup.

Gilas Pilipinas won’t start training camp for the world championship until August 1, while the Jones Cup – where the national team emerged champion in 2012 – is slated to start on August 6.

“The concern is ’yung condition to play the Jones Cup on August 6 kung mag-pa-practice pa lang tayo on August 1. So tinurn-down na natin ‘yung imbitasyon,” Reyes said during an interview with Sports Radio 918.

With Gilas Pilipinas not competing again in the Jones Cup, the team won’t be having the chance to get back at one of only two teams to beat the Filipinos during the Fiba-Asia Men’s Championship in Manila last August.

Gilas lost to Chinese Taipei, 79-84, in a thrilling preliminary match in front of a capacity crowd at the Mall of Asia Arena. The nationals later settled for a runner-up finish after losing to Iran in the gold medal play.

The loss to the Taiwanese failed to dampen the spirit of Gilas, which won five straight games, including its showdown against Korea in the semifinals, to book a place in the Fiba World Cup in Spain.

Chinese Taipei, meanwhile, settled for fourth place but held the distinction of beating many-time champion China in the quarterfinals.

Gilas Pilipinas failed to defend its Jones Cup title last year after organizers withdrew their invitation to the team owing to a simmering diplomatic issue between the Philippines and Taiwan.

The Philippines has won the Jones Cup four times, including the 2012 edition behind the core of the Gilas team led by tournament Most Valuable Player LA Tenorio.

Gilas will only be preparing for a full month for the World Cup since the season-ending PBA Governors’ Cup is set to end on August 15 if the finals goes the full seven games.

“For now, we have zero international exposure,” Reyes said.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now Taiwan will beg us to join.

lalangawin na naman to!!
trans:Thanks but no thanks.

i think it will be better for us to join the Jones Cup..
“For now, we have zero international exposure,” Reyes said. - THEN YOU SHOULD HAVE NOT DECLINED THE INVITATION!

Sending a team of so-called "tourists" is a shameful move

LOL. Ka-barangay ako ng Ginebra (Trans: I'm also a Ginebra Fan) and I also have my PBA idols Japeth Aguilar and Greg Slaughter and I watched only Ginebra and Petron games if I have time. But grandslam doesn't matter and I think it's an abominable move by PBA Board and Atty. Salud. And it's like "Oh even we send only a Gilas tourists team we should be proud of what we just have." Shameful to our country isn't it? Even Pacquiao trained so hard (I'm not a Pacquiao fan by the way) to bring glory to our country. So unless PBA board and Salud adresses scheduling problem (e.g. excusing Gilas players from the Governors Cup and instead adopting the 2-import rule, etc.) I will make a petition to all the PBA fans to boycott watching PBA games. Sorry to burst the bubble....

thats nice your a kabarangay. if ginebra fans speak, im sure PBA will listen. ginebra fans are the most rabid fans in the pba. for sure pba will take notice. hope you don't burst any bubble from the ginebra fans.

Translation from Tag-lish (Sorry Moderators but I never got into Interbasket Forums a long time): :-D

We should instead boycott PBA games until they taught a lesson. Because they thought that even if Gilas is being Massacred by the World-class opposition they were proud of what Gilas appeared.

Here is a petition website:

Here's an official PBA twitter: @pbaconnect

MVP's and Chot's twitter to say that they need to do something: @coachot @iamMVP

LOL. Well I should have said that unless PBA Board and Atty. Salud addresed scheduling problems like excusing Gilas players from Governor's Cup (We, as gilas fans, don't even care if June-Mar/Japeth can never be an MVP because of being excused from this conference or Greg can never be an R.O.Y. as long as PBA sacrifices for our country, the Philippines, it will be perfectly fine for us) we should have boycott such games. Even I loved watching PBA games and my favorite active PBA players are Arwind Santos and June-Mar. Hope you all understand this. T.Y. :-)

Admirable but good luck doing the convincing part. ;)

fvck...Philippine basketball always face problems..
By this time we should have had a good schedule of activities for FIBA Worlds..and yet we dont have and we'll have to wait for the result of, if there'll be, negotiations between SBP and PBA. When will they come up with agreement then? We dont hold the schedules of other participating teams as well.

This is because PBA will not get affected by poor performance of our team in the worlds. Why? because there was a time that Philippine basketball, national team terms, that was dark but still PBA survived.
Where is the media's magnifying voice when you need it to work to inform and wake up the public concern? Possibly they dont want to strain relations... :(

To put it in simple terms: same old problems.

For me 1 month preparation is OK as long as the SBP and coaching staff will make use of this time efficiently. . . Arrange a 10-day training camp in Europe and enter in a 4-nation pocket tournament. I think that would be enough. . . we wouldn't be going to Spain for a title but for learning experience anyway. So what the fuss of these panicky reactions of short preparation?

Fans want 'Three Kings,' PBA stars in World Cup team as support for Gilas grows
From: Snow Badua January 3, 2014, 07:04 pm

PBA fans have expressed full support for the Gilas Pilipinas team bound for the Fiba World Cup and possibly the Asian Games this year, saying the best players should be made available to the national team.

Just hours after Gilas coach Chot Reyes said he is eyeing Ginebra stars Japeth Aguilar, Greg Slaughter and LA Tenorio for the Spain-bound team, fans of the league's most popular club told Spin.ph said they will be thrilled to see the 'Three Kings' in the national squad.

Ginebra diehard Rhen Galang said he expects the Kings to loan the three stars to the Reyes, saying the team and its supporters have never been stingy when it comes to support for the national squad.

"Si Mark (Caguioa) nga dati hiniram ng national team. Kahit may chance kami mag champion ng three straight noong 2005, hindi kami kumontra na mga fans. All out support namin," said Galang, a survivor of the Ozone Disco tragedy in 1994.

Another Kings supporter, Kaye Cabal, who is also the moderator of Ginebra's Twitter and Facebook accounts, is also all out in her support for the proposal, saying the Fiba World Cup campaign is bigger than Ginebra and the PBA.

"Nakakatuwa na willing ang fans to sacrifice. It could have effects sa team especially big factor si Greg and Japeth sa magandang tinatakbo ng team ngayon but at the same time, the Fiba World Cup is bigger than Ginebra and the PBA," said Cabal.

"Matagal nating hinintay ang makabalik ang Pilipinas sa mapa ng world basketball. Sana lang po kung gaano kalaki ang ipinapakitang suporta ng fans sa Gilas, ganito din po ang ipakita ng mga teams natin. Let's take the best talent we have to Spain. Para sa bayan," she added.

Even longtime Alaska supporter Rey Tan said he wants to see Aces players suit up for Gilas, saying whatever success the teams gains will always be a big source of pride for Filipinos.

“Kung may hihiramin sa Alaska ang national team, mas proud ako. Makaka-contribute sa attainment ng national goal,” said Tan, a fixture at ringside during Alaska games.

The soft spoken 54-year-old fan defended the Aces’ decision to pull out top players Sonny Thoss and Calvin Abueva from the last Gilas pool before the Fiba-Asia championships in Manila, saying the Uytengsu franchise had a different direction that time.

That may change now that the Aces have won last year's Commissioner's Cup, he added.

“This time, siguro baka magpahiram, na-achieve yung objective last year. Nag-champion naman. Baka magbago pananaw nila,” he said. “Towards the championship kasi yung selection process nun (last Gilas pool formation) di ba? Kung nagpahiram sila ng player nun, baka hindi nag-champion.”

Tan said exposure to international tournaments also has its benefits to the players.

“Iba yung experience na makukuha ng player sa international tournament. Imagine your team’s top player playing against the best in the world," he said.

Reyes has expressed his wish to be given a free hand in choosing his players for the two tournaments, unlike in the last Fiba-Asia tournament where teams were mandated to lend only one player from their lineups.

"Free hand means free hand," the Gilas coach said.

SBP should not have declined the Jones Cup invitation. If PBA would not lend extra players aside from Gilas players to this tournament then SBP should look for alternative such as form a new team by enlisting the Sinag players (of course without Douthit) and reinforced them with D-League players or Fil-Americans playing in ABL like Tau'tuaa, Pringle, Armon. AS Jones Cup is not a FIBA sanctioned tournament these Fil-Americans I believe will be allowed to play.

Last month I floated in this forum the idea of calling up players in US NCAA who are graduating this year like Standhardinger, SCuba, Wright etc. for Jones Cup. But I was rebuffed by many fellow posters here as they said what the use or benefits of enlisting these players. But with PBA's anaemic support with limitations on the number of available players and short time preparation what can we do? If we can't find players and granted some of these Fil-Americans are willing to play why deprive them of that opportunity?

So will coach this team? not necessarily Chot Reyes, let him be busy with Gilas preparation. I think Coach Jong will do or much better coach Tab Baldwin who is in the list of SBP coaching stable.

Realist or not, for me, we should have a mentality to go out and aim for the win especially when you are carrying the Philippines' colours especially in an international event that's why I'm not a big fan of sending this same team to the FIBA World Cup and to the Asian Games. What if they started winning their games in Spain which is very much possible. Should they leave the tournament and go to the Asian Games? I believe in our team and in our capabilities so they should be given all the much needed time and preparation to fight for our glory. We should make the most of this rare opportunity to showcase our brand of basketball to the world.

Relax guys, we have to distinguish between what is released out to the public (to drum out popular support) and the real negotiations done behind closed doors. MVP and management are not stupid, everything they say and release to the press (e.g. not accept Jones cup invite) is a calculated step for a better outcome. Who knows maybe in place of the Jones cup, some teams could be visiting Manila instead (hint :) )
BTW as an organizer like the jones cup, one does not simply give out an open invitation, giving the invitee the freedom to field any team of their choice. Organisers who have ticket sales in mind will insure who they invite is what they will get, not a fake team (like the Australian team that visited Manila to play Yeng's NT in 2009)

Great to hear that Ginebra fans (I assume majority of them, if not all) are supportive of Gilas-2's campaign in this year's FIBA World Championship. Nice to know that Filipino cage fan support for the national team has been solid ever since that historic silver-medal finish in last year's Asian Championship. Philippine national team support has never been this strong at present after a long while. I think the last time that the national team drew much support from the public was during the 1998 Centennial team w/c finished 3rd in the 1998 Asian Games. Since then national team fan support has declined as Phi. basketball struggled in foreign competitions. Basketball fans started losing interest following Phi. basketball's international campaign. Instead, Filipino fans just focused on following their favorite teams in the PBA. Most of them of course root for the PBA's undisputed all-time most popular team-Ginebra. Fans would just say, "Dito na lang tayo sa PBA, total wala rin namang nangyayari sa Phi. team natin".

But everything changed when Gilas-2 won that silver medal right on our home. Filipino cage fans interest towards Philippine basketball was suddenly rekindled. Words such as "Gilas", "Jason Castro" (or William), "Japeth Aguilar", "Jeff Chan", "LA Tenorio" suddenly became household names. And everybody wants to cherish that semi-final game vs. South Korea that ensured us of the silver medal. That's what success brings to Philippine basketball. It rekindles the public interest on the national team.

So let's make the most of this opportunity. Now that we are going to the World Championship & will be pitted against the world's elite, let's assemble the strongest possible team for the tournament. Of course realistically speaking, we can't expect getting many wins in that tournament. Fact is, we might even end up win-less in that tournament (pero wag naman sanang mangyari). But the important thing is, our team will gain valuable experience in that tournament. Now, that we are in the world stage, world-class teams will start getting interested to tune-up with our team- something w/c we hardly got in the past.

Want I want to see with Phi. basketball is to consistently qualify to the World Basketball Championship in the future. We must keep the fire burning. We now have the momentum, it all boils down to how we can sustain it.

Okay..does it mean that SBP is already assured of a series of games with other countries for them to reject the JC invite? I hope so..if not then *smh*

Continuity is very important, that's the key for success for a national team, so we don't need allot of changes we have to have a team with a core that will last up too, at least, three Fiba Asia Tournament. That's the key for continuous success , not to many changes all the time. Continuity also means familiarity so no need to adjust plays or set up on both offense and defense, just minor tweaks and review.

If there will be changes it should be at least three players. Pick them from the Pilipinas pool of 24 who are already expose to international competition. For our line up right now I think we only need one or two changes. Add Dillinger and Greg to replace Gary David or any of the two Alapag or Tenorio. Or Maybe at least Dillinger be added.

Gary David needs to be replaced. We can't be sentimental. Jared Dillinger, Kelly Williams, Greg Slaughter and Ryan Reyes are all better assets for Gilas than he is.

Williams for David is maybe an unlikely scenario considering that Chot has to replace him with another scorer and that man could be Dillinger. With this future events, I thing that will benefit Gilas because Dillinger can supply good minutes at an ample time on the court and that is opposite to David.

I love Pingris... but his slot can be taken by a number of bigs.. GS is one and Gary for Dllinger.

last august there seems no one in favor of replacing any of the 12 who won the silver. Now here comes some who finally saw the light. lolers
