SBP Long-Term National Pool (Vol. XXII)

My take on this is there might be another person in Gilas who does not value/need/want MD as much as others are. IMO MD is good for the NT. Low Key, Down to Earth and very Coachable and skill wise he is up there. But based on what I have seen and I am basing this on the said circumstances and ,what insinuation the others are saying here based on what the team physician said, is Chot Reyes is not entirely fond of MD or does not value him as much, and is contrary to what he says. I say this due to the ff instances based on my view only:

a. DDO system does not need a skilled big man to work thus not needing MD that much. and if you notice the 1st 3 or 4 games during the tourney, Chot relied on his DDO offense a lot and did not set plays for MD to use his advantage especially on the post. It is only during after the lost to CT I think that MD was able to establish and be given post up plays. You can see this in the box scores of the games. I also noticed in some instances MD's frustration in the lack of touches that he got during the 1st 3 games and at times was late in going back on defense due to a teammates poor shot, but even with the situation he did not say or do anything which is a good thing coming from him.

b. MD is not Chot's choice, it was Rajko who chose MD to be our naturalized player. If you noticed during the 2011 games that MD was the leading scorers of the Gilas team and imho should've been in the Mythical 5 since he had an edge already over Haddadi whose Iran team was already eliminated during the quarters. (is there also a rule in fiba that a Naturalized Player cannot win personal awards?) He suited Rajko's system or Rajko centered his system on MD, any which way it was a success imho.

As per others are saying that MD did fake his injury, I doubt it, I know he is being paid a good amount by the SBP/MVP and wouldn't risk losing his job over this kind of thing. Also based on my humble experience playing basketball, getting kneed in any part of your leg would hurt and not only for that day but would last a couple of days before the pain would go subside. It was clear from the replays that he got kneed/bumped by a knee of the opponent and those things really do hurt. they usually would entail a bruise. them playing almost every day also did not help.

Fact: Douthit dont like Chot Reyes. Douthit even demanded before that he will only play for Gilas again if Franz Pumaren will be part of the coaching staff.

Unfortunately when MVP eventually steps down (and when Danding is no longer around), I see Philippine basketball going back to another dark age. There's no one figure who is prominent, influential, passionate and most importantly, rich enough to become the face and mighty bond of Philippine basketball.

Unless the major shareholders suddenly become patriotic and philanthropic at the same time, I'm afraid our 2013 success might just become a 1 time wonder when heaven and earth were moved, where the stars literally aligned for us in every way possible, just to give us a taste of what glory feels like again.

China may have lost this battle but they won't lose the war. For us, this is only the beginning and there are a LOT we have to do if we want to keep this winning streak alive. We don't want to become another FYMacedonia (or Tunisia though it's still too early to tell) people will call a fluke.

Sorry for being pessimistic but so far I have no reason for optimism which is why I will savour this victory while it lasts.

There you have it. Tunisia has just been upset by Egypt.

is it due to the fact that chot's type of offense is highly guard oriented?

accdg to google, Gilas1 won in the quarters but lost in the finals. I think this is just a club team and not nt

And not liked by the team doctor too. Add analyzed exposes, then we were lucky that we got by even if we had some internal problems.

SBP would not like to burn bridges with Marcus. His family might decide to relocate here and contribute to our gene pool hehehe :) :)

hmm what were those exposes? I find this hard to believe basing from Chot's comments about Douthit.

I doubt analyzed would want to repost it (if he did delete) he was asking people to not quote it too so good luck finding that post.

That is unfair what you are insinuating, you were not there. Before the end of the 1st half of the Korea game, Marcus was already in the locker room really hurting bad, it was really so swollen. We tried to inject a pain reliever but it was like as hard as rock and it broke the needle if the syringe. The needle could not penetrate the skin due to how swollen the injury was. Marcus and Management decided against rushing him to Makati Med, we had a runner look all over for a needle replacement. Even after an overnight rest the swelling had not subsided and Marcus is obviously very uncomfortable with the pain he was experiencing. Douthit is just human, he did what he could. Even though he was willing himself to play, it is no longer safe for him health wise and forcing the matter could probably permanently damage himviously very uncomfortable with the pain he was experiencing. after playing hurt for 2 games and then that bad landing against sokor, i knew he cant come back on that game.

I'm beginning to believe that this expose regarding Marcus is a cultural thing. Can we not Pinoys be happy, just be happy about whatever achievements we have? Most of the time, if not all, pinoy achievements in any field will always have a controversy. It is okay I think if it comes from a non-pinoy but it really is sad that these controversial stories are coming from fellow pinoys. What's with that? is this a media thing? pra mapag usuapan lalo? or another faction in the same group would like to steal the limelight? or just simply being a "crab"? Maybe the stories are true, maybe not but what benefit can we get if we continue talking about this topic? Hope we can stop now before it gets out of the media.

People ARE discussing topics that WERE being discussed by the media, so really if you want to blame anyone, blame the team doctor? Or analyzed, probably? Since the juicy post was from him?

analyzed word of advice when you get inside and if ever you see or heard something .... there are things better left unsaid. You might suffer same fate as I had when there was a time I was not only censured but was shoved out of the kulambo. Then when you're out hahayaan ka papakin ka ng lamok. Some things are not for public consumption, we just clean our laundry privately.

Great advice Nardy, some stuff are indeed not for public consumption...

the oldtimers here would still remember namamangha castigating me here and reminding me to know my place.

I do not take it against him and his boss, they have a point. Been part of international multinational companies and that is really the way it is.
