What if we naturalized Justin Williams he is like Marcus he has defense and offense too.

I watched FTW re: SG for RP Team.

They have a valid argument on the need of a shooter - a guy that can shoot without him needing to take a lot of shots before heating up (Volume shooter)

so with the current crop of SG that Chot Reyes named, I guess it is only Larry Fonacier who can be like that, then the other 2 guard will be toss up between Jeff Chan and Gary David.

Though I posted long long long ago that PBA best shooter is the one who made the tying basket awhile ago in the Global Port-Barako game.. Mark Macapagal

the U16 Boys National Team would need a sponsor for a budget of 9 to 10 million while its estimated to be 500K for the U18 Boys 3X3, thats operational only and would increase if we'll stage an invitational or if they'll train and play overseas.

sad state of affairs in youth basketball
:(

Its so frustrating ...... its so difficult to encourage other businessmen to sponsor the U18 Boys 3X3 National Team and the U16 Boys National Team.

Commonly said ...."kaya na ni MVP yan" ...... "so kainis" can't they see that no one person can do everything.

Its for a good cause .... for the country .... its for young kids development but still ..... "Ay Naku" Why! Why! Why!

Why not try "Crowd sourcing" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crowdsourcing - it works for some startup websites http://www.kickstarter.com/help/faq/kickstarter basics?ref=nav, this should test how passionate Filipinos are for basketball. Since Smart is also funding ideaspaceph they could see if this works for sports.

Jap definitely still has a number of weaknesses he can work on, (e.g. post defence, low post etc) , but the thing to remember is despite those weakness his sheer length and athleticism plus improved understanding and strength already makes him a significant defensive presence. (he already is one of the best Filipino disruptive defensive presence, he does change a lot of shots by his presence alone, Not one on one post defender ) . The other thing to remember is he still has room for improvement, which is something you can’t say for an established defender like Pingris or Williams , those 2 are probably playing at their maximum potential already.

On offense I didn’t think I would say this, but next to Ranidel Jap already is the best offensive local big we have in the pool. His jump shot is superior to the rest of the bigs (Kelly, Ping, Greg, JF).

Now I’m not going to pre-empt things here and say he is a lock, as Chot said it right, we will see in Lithuania (and that my folks is the final reckoning, all these other things PBA resume don’t really account for much, everyone except Marcus and Ranidel starts from zero in Lithuania. But Jap is certainly demonstrating a skill set now that is hard to ignore

Jap is turning out to be a Chris Bosh's type of PF, a face up guy who has a 15-17 foot jumper. He just needs to learn to make a one dribble then power step drive to the basket when the defense closes out on his jump shot.

I am surprised to see how Fajardo lacks the speed to cover the athletic imports. - He can't play PF

I will go out on a limp and say it's more feasible for Jap to play center than Fajardo play PF. I aslo think this idea of matching-up size wise is exagerrated, Look at Korea- they practically only use 7 footer "Ha "for like 20 min , most of the time it's the 6'8 " (lee) who plays center with wide body (6'6") "Oh" playing PF. the scenario of facing two twin 7 footers in extremely limited. (maybe China and iran for a 10 minute stretch) . but more than often intenrationally you will see more of a 6'8 mobile / athletic type center (e.g.Abbas, lee) who you will be matched up against. that is why Williams or Jap skill set is actually more vauable than a slow footed 7 footer (Greg, JF)

Jap I think is more suitable guarding the stretch 4's and 3's e.g Kazemi, Khatib, Abbas. Balkman earned his 23 points against Jap defense, if he went against Arwind he will score 40 pts lol. Japeth will have a hard time guarding physical players e.g Yi, Hamed. So having GS/Junmar is still a must. Pls no Sonny Thoss:)

GS or JF
Marcus
Ranidel
Kelly
Japeth or Ping

Five frontcourt players is enough for us to compete, I am banking on Jap's inclusion - you can't teach 6'10 in shoes with 7 foot wingspan.

San Beda Team Behold beats U16 RP Team 79-73 after trailing 51-58 at the end of the 3rd Qtr.

Coach Boyet Fernandez' Red Lions took advantage of the injury suffered by Mike Nieto after being hit on the jaw. With a key piece of Coach Jamike Jarin's rotation missing, the team lapsed into errors and even if the trajectory of their shots were on target, its either too strong or it was short of the ring. Also our weakness on free throws has been passed-down on this team. But this is a gritty group who are just playing thier 2nd game together and for young kids its good to see them get free from their defenders in implementing the DDO. They need more time to perfect the set plays and have to improve on their spacing. The more confident players were getting a loud lashing from Coach Jamike because of their tendencies to freelance and not follow the plays he wants to be executed. Kobe is really athletic and agile but being the tallest, he was forced to play Center, I feel we need a wide-bodied player as our players are more on the lean side. Kobe could not do the moves he made when the U16 Boys National Team beat the Joma Adornado-led Ateneo Team B in their 1st game after Sorela put-up a leech-like defense on him.

San Beda even though missing the Semerad Twins used their maturity and smarts to catch-up then finally get the lead from this very young National Team. Among those who suited-up for Team Behold are former Juniors MVP Van Abatayo, comebacking Michole Sorela, returnee Dan Sara, Tommy Babilonia, Jeric Estrada, one of the Nazareno brothers, etc.

This is the common tendency in Philippine basketball that for me is counter-productive - natural guards being compelled to play 4 or 5 becoz they are tall enough to play the big man positions or as in the case of the current RP U-16 youth team, Kobe Paras is among the tallest player in the team. I think Ramon Fernadez started out as a guard but becoz he's very tall (by Philippine basketball standards at that time), he might have been converted to play center or power forward.

This practice is not good in my humble opinion. Tall players who are natural guards will develop "big man" skills instead of developing guard skills at a crucial stage of their development. These kids will be occupied developing post up moves instead of improving their ball-handling & outside shooting.

Buti na lang na sina Gabe Norwood & Jared Delinger both studied in the US instead of here in the Philippines. Eh kung dito sa Pinas nag aral ang mga yan, eh di malamang power forward o sentro ang mga laro ng mga yan.

This is just my humble opinion.

I hope Japeth will become a double double type of a player. If he plays well i think The kraken will be a reserve and Japeth will be one of the three towers along Greg and Douhit.

I think a Douthit-Slaughter/Fajardo-Aguilar frontline rotation will be more feasible than a Douthit-Slaughter-Fajardo tandem. I think coach Chot won't pick both Fajardo & Slaughter in the final 12. It's going to be a toss up between Fajardo & Slaughter as Douthit's chief back up. If ever Japeth is chosen in the final 12, he'll surely play the 4 spot.

Quick question just purely on being a one on one defensive stopper who can contain an Abbas or Lee more? Ping or Kelly. I'm not including Jap in this as he is not necessary a good one on one defender but more of a weakside , pick and rol cover defender

Agree with you on this. Both Pingris & Williams are on their early 30's. That's when players start to stagnate as far as skills is concerned. I have this feeling that both Ping & Kelly have already reached their potential at this stage. Japeth on the other hand is 26, and we can see that he's improving.

on yi..

He's japeth's upside. Japeth will be like yi. Both stretch 4 players.

I'll go for Kelly. Maybe becoz he's about 2 inches taller than Ping. Let's assume that Kelly & Ping are equally quick & athletic & have equally the same defensive skills. I think that's when a little difference in height can make a significant difference.

i'll go with williams

If both of you jasmine and Sk picked kelly over Ping as a one one one defender, what is Ping's advanrage if any over Kelly, shooting, rebounding ?

Japeths offensive awareness is quite above average. the only problem is aside from below average dribbling skills, he has bad hands so the post up game may never develop..but his defensive abilities especially in the pick and roll is what Chot Reyes wanted aside from his activeness on the glass because he can out jump any one in asia..
