Game #19 Vs Washington State

Half way through the game, it seemed that the only undefeated team in the Pac-12 is ready to blow a few records. One was their unbeaten streak in conference play, the over being a 19 game win streak on it's home court. But Arsalan Kazemi and E.J.Singler, two seniors of the Oregon Ducks stepped up big in the second half to erase a 10 point first half deficit and come up with a W to go 6-0 in conference play. Kazemi scored 16 points and brought down 7 boards as a starter after coming off the bench because of nagging injuries in the last 5 games, while Singler had a game high 19 points to help pace UO to a 17-2 record overall. It looked like a trap game coming around halfway through the first half as the Ducks seemed flat and unprepared to face the Cougars. Washington State started to go 7-13 from downtown in the opening period. Things changed defensively in the 2nd half for Oregon and they geared up to another level to outscore their opponent 39-22 to take a much earned hard fought game 68-61. AK was again in the spotlight with some nice plays down the wire specially his alleyoop dunk to extend the lead to 7 with 2 minutes remaining in the game. He also had 4 steals to once again fill the statsheet as he usually does.

Next up they face the Washington Huskies in a rivalry match at home on Saturday afternoon. A win will put Oregon pretty close to the top 10 in this week's AP poll on Monday.

Game #20 Vs Washington
The Oregon Ducks beat their big historic rivals pretty easily at home. Though the final score was 81-76, but it is indeed a little deceiving as Washington made 3 shots for behind the arc in the final minutes of the game when Oregon got pretty lazy on defense. They lead 70-56 with 3 minutes remaining in the game and thus didn't close the game as they should have.
Arsalan Kazemi recorded his 50th double-double of his career with 11 points and 11 rebounds. AK had two 3 points plays in a row using his skills under the basket to draw fouls and convert the free throws. That opened up the game and the lead ballooned to 14 when the Huskies were keeping it around 8-10 for a pretty long amount of time. Also it is good to notice he held one of his biggest rivals on the rebounding list in the conference to just 3 rebounds. That's how the "Beast Of The Middle East" outplays his matchups on the boards. The Ducks will have to play without their starting PG, Dominic Artis, for 3-5 weeks as he injured his foot last week.
Oregon improved to 18-2 overall and 7-0 in the Pac-12 to stay undefeated. They are going after the 10-0 start Oregon had back in the 1925-26 season!! They might get to the 10th or 11th spot on the AP poll this week, specially as a lot of teams who were above them lost games in this 2 nights.

Next they go on the road and a trip to the bay area at Northern California to take on Stanford and California respectively. Have this in mind that Oregon hasn't swept the bay games for 37 years. Actually they have been swept 20 times in this 36 years playing there. Big test ahead of Kazemi and his Ducks to keep their unbeaten streak alive.

Stats Vs Washington: Min:36......FG:4/4......FT:3/4......Rebs:11(2/9)......Pts:11......Ast:1......Stl:1......Blk:0......TO:0......PF:2

The Oregon Ducks are now ranked #10 in the Nation. Wonderful achievement for Coach Altman, Arsalan Kazemi and his fellow Teammates. Being a top 10 team, brings with it huge national attention to a program and its players.

Hope they can sweep the bay, though it is damn hard...

Game #21 @ Stanford

Oregon put their 9 game winning streak at the line at Stanford and were humiliated in a lopsided fashion going down to the Cardinals with a score of 76-52. They came out flat and didn't have the energy needed to compete on a road game. Stanford took advantage and dominated the game inside the paint and behind the 3points range to get a precious home win against a ranked team. Oregon had 23 miserable TO's in the absence of their stud PG Dominic Artis. The Ducks are starting to find out what a valuable asset he is to this team. Arsalan Kazemi also had a miserable performance like other Ducks that gave up early in the 2nd half and were playing with their bench for most of the 2nd half.

Stats @ Stanford: Min:24......FG:2/4......FT:2/2......Rebs:9(4/5)......Pts:6......Ast:0......Stl:1......Blk:0......TO:1......PF: 0

Game #22 @ California

Did i say the bay trip has been cruel to the Ducks in this 36 years?!! OH yes it has. Ducks got swept for the 21st time out of the last 37 tries on the Bay to show that they just don't show up there. This time they went down to the California Bears with a score of 58-54. Once again TO's were the biggest problems for Oregon without having anyone to handle the ball with Artis being injured. The Ducks have to just hope he can be back ASAP to get them out of this slump. Oregon were up 54-48 with 4 minutes left in the game but they couldn't manage to score or get a stop down the wire to let a badly needed road win slip out of their hands in Northern California. Kazemi was one of the two Ducks who scored in double figures along Tony Woods. Arsalan had 10 points in this game and brought down 6 rebounds in 35 minutes. Not the best he can do.... Seems like other players were getting going when Artis was setting up the offensive plays.

Next Oregon take on Colorado on Thursday, and the put their 20 game winning streak at home on the line(5th longest active in the Country) against the Buffs.

Stats @ California: Min:35......FG:4/6......FT:2/2......Rebs:6(0/6)......Pts:10......Ast:1......Stl:1......Blk:0......TO:1......PF:3

Oregon Ducks have been dropped to #19 in the AP poll. After their miserable performances on the road against Stanford and California it was expected that the Ducks will fall drastically in the new polls. Good wake up call for the Ducks to refocus and sweep Colorado and Utah at home this coming Thursday and Saturday.

I have watched most of Oregon Ducks games this season, they lost their PG to injury 2 weeks ago and that's when they lost their momentum and their downward spiral began. They also lost their home game last night to U Colorado, they will certainly drop out of top 25 now, regardless of what they do tomorrow against Utah.
Kazemi is an integral part of the team, one of the commentators calls him and Singler the glue and cement guys of the team that hold everything together.
He almost has a double double average, and does a lot of things that doesn't show up on the stat sheet (forcing turnovers, realigning teammates on defence...) However he is not aggressive enough on offence. I have never seen him shoot the ball and while he has some nice post moves as we have seen during his 3 seasons at Rice, he rarely uses those skills at Oregon (in an interview a few weeks back, his coach had actually asked him to be more aggressive and assertive on offence).

By the way, last night he had a monster dunk against! U. Colorado after two back to back offensive rebounds, it was on ESPN highlights last night. I found a low quality video of the dunk.

Game #23 Vs Colorado

Oregon's miserable play continued while missing their stud PG Dominic Artis. This time the ducks went down at home for the first time in the season and saw their homecourt record fade away with an unacceptable loss to Colorado at home. Oregon's offense once again looked stagnant and their half court offense was absolutely disgusting as nobody could make a shot from outside the paint. Despite showing no heart on offense the Ducks defense once again kept them in the game. They held the Buffs to 48 points but where on the wrong side of the score as they themselves couldn't score more than 47 points. They lead the game 47-42 with 3 to go but once again failed to make stops at the end of the game to give away the lead with 30 seconds remaining as Andre Roberson rebounded his shot that was blocked by Arsalan Kazemi and made the lay in to give Colorado it's vital road victory.

Game #24 Vs Utah

Oregon managed to end their 3 game losing streak with an emotional second half against Utah. They looked to be the same team in the 1st half as they were getting beaten badly by a lowly Utah team at home. They only managed to score 22 points in the 1st half, a result of a woefully disgraceful offense. But something new happened at halftime in the locker room and that was Arsalan Kazemi stepping up and screaming at his teammates and urging them to play with heart and get their act together. The consequence? A 51 point 2nd half erasing Utah's 8 point lead and giving Oregon a much needed 73-64 victory. Kazemi's play in the second half was nothing less than magnificent as Coach Dana Altman referred to it as his best half of the season. His hustles, his rebounds and this time his beautiful offensive game cruised the Ducks past the Utes to give them their 19th victory for the season.

Game #25 @ Washington

Oregon loos to be coming back to life after beating their big rivals the Washington Huskies on the road with ease. They were never threatened throughout the game as the Huskies couldn't hit shots. This was the first sweep of Washington since 1995 so it was pretty big for the ducks. Jonnathon Loyd who has been replacing the injured Artis for the last 6 games had a great game and carried the Ducks past the Huskies in a pretty hostile environment. Also Kazemi was pretty effective on offense making 3 of his 4 shots but on the other hand was 5 from 8 from the Charity line. He also had a team high 7 rebounds to wrap up a much needed Oregon victory.

Stats @ Washington: Min:31......FG:3/4......FT:5/8......Rebs:7(1/6)......Pts:11......Ast:1......Stl:1......Blk:1.... ..TO:0......PF:1

Up next for Kazemi and the Ducks is the big dance. They are up against a hungry Oklahoma State who went unranked but shot up the national rankings due to Marcus Smart and LeBryan Nash. Both are considered to be future NBA draft picks.

11 points and 16 rebounds counting for Kazemi as the Ducks lead Oklahoma State 62-48 with three minutes remaining in the last half.

Very impressive win for the Ducks!

Final score:

Oregon Ducks 68 - 55 Oklahoma State Cowboys

Kazemi finished with 11 points, 17 rebounds and 2 assists

That statline is even more impressive!

13 rebounds and counting before Kazemi is given a breather with 7 minutes left and Oregon has a commanding lead of 58-39 against St. Louis.

8 points and 16 rebounds for Kazemi for Oregon's victory over St. Louis 74-57.

Sorry, i couldn't update this page because of the terrible amount of work i had piled up in this 2-3 weeks.
But to sum it up, Oregon defeated Oregon State and then went on the road only to be embarrased by Colorado and Utah in their 2 last regular season games.
Ducks finished with a 23-8 record and clinched the No.3 seed 1 game behind regular season champions UCLA and being tied with No.2 seed California.

Then they went on an impressive run in the PAC-12 tourney with 3 wins over Washington, Utah & UCLA to win the championship and clinch an automatic birth in the NCAA tourney. So they finished their games with a 26-8 record before the tourney began.

They were shockingly seeded as a No.12, a fact most experts laughed at. Now they are showing what their worth is.
What a great tournament it has been for Oregon Ducks and Arsalan Kazemi until now. First beating No.5 Oklahoma State 68-55 and then demolishing the No.4 seed St. Loius 74-57 last night. A lot of NBA GM's have been watching Kazemi's game and Pat Riley the Miami Heat's president was in the stands for last night's game. Now they have entered the sweet 16 were no one would even think of it before the tourney.
He broke the single game record for rebounds in Oregon's history with 17 against Oklahoma State and then went on to get 16 last night against St.Louis. He has now tied Oregon's record for total rebounds in the tourney with 33 in just 2 games. The previous one was 33 in 5 games in the 02-03 season.

AK's averages through his first 2 games are unbelievable:

Min:33

Points: 9.5

Rebounds: 16.5(6.5/10)

FG: 4/7.5

FT: 1.5/2.5

Asissts: 2.5

Steals: 2

Blocks: 1

TO's: 2

PF's: 3

Next they take on the No.1 overall seed of the tournament, Louisville , in Indianapolis on Friday. A very very tough game as Louisville is playing out of their minds in this recent weeks.

11 points and 12 rebounds for Kazemi as Oregon bows out of the NCAA Tournament with Oregon losing 77-69 against #1 Louisville.
