that's if Lito Alvarez does not make a come back in the basketball operations of the PBA teams of Bert Lina.

If so we might probably see a Barako player traded om-line.

Unlikely because:

1.) He is no longer connected with the Lina group. He resigned when he was appointed BOC chief and was not taken back in.
2.) Chua still owns a significant, albeit minority stake in Barako Bull (team and business). A younger Chua (George's son) heads BBE basketball operations.

Just realized Barako Bull of Junel Baculi has so much muscle with

Arboleda, Pennisi, Pena, Miller, Salvador, Allado and Danny Siegle when he comes back and Salvacion and Najorda are not pushovers also. Injured Lou Gatumbato is also muscle-bound.
...

Hehehe, that's what you call "Truth in Adverstising." They ain't called BARAKO for nothing. ;)

In fairness to Dorian regarding the shoving incident, he was merely protecting his coach. If you think about it, the team was not expected to perfom well this season, and the players can somehow owe it to Baculi for being where they are right now. Team chemistry is good and that's in no small way thanks to Baculi's coaching.

Dorian is big and looks mean, but is known to be a good-natured, fun-loving guy. Homer Se, on the other hand (who played for both the original Red Bull team and the current one previously known as Air21), is a known troublemaker on court and is an organizational challenge for any coach (just ask Arwind how it was with Se in one training session during Arwind's rookie year with Air21) ;).

At least now, we can expect who can be billed as the Main Event in case Lina ventures into profesisonal wrestling. :D:D:D:D

Its ok anybody is free to have his own opinion.

but nobody can argue that despite all those personal distractions which usually affects any ordinary player or person, he is someone who takes that aside and still play as a professional .... that's why he became a MVP.

Tapos as long as he still get's the highest salary in the PBA, happy pa rin kami and it does not matter what others say ;)

you just presented arguments in my favor when i said:

the mere fact that you claim that james yap gets the highest salary in the PBA now just supports my argument that he is the most OVERRATED player in the PBA now. kaya nga pinakamalaki sweldo nya, kasi nga sya nga ang pinaka-overrated. gets?

and i emphasize "now" because i never contested his MVP awards, which arguably he must have deserved. but now, at 29, i think his game is downward sloping. and fast.

so again, given the quality of his game "NOW," i think he is the most OVERRATED player in the PBA "NOW."

but the season is young. we will see if my opinion holds. ;)

ginanahan tuloy ako...

ginebra will get their 2nd win tonight. powerade's 2 wins are against PBA-DL level shopinas and struggling, badly-coached alaska. on the other hand, ginebra lost to up-and-coming hot teams ROS and barako bull.

and i don't think a PBA team can be really competitive with a starting lineup of rommel adducul at C, and will antonio at PF. :p

powerade +8. :)

wow! either i underestimated powerade. or i overestimated bgk. (i think it's the case of the latter rather than the former).

adducul's missed FT's are forgiveable. they can actually be expected. but gary david! wow! that's a bitter pill to swallow. i wouldn't wanna be in gary david's shoes now.

by the way, i'm 4-0 so far in predicting winners. but my odds spreads don't get covered. that just means i shouldn't bet on games. :p

Kerby has the biggest contract because he got it when the new salary cap was approved.

but anyway, following your argument, then eric menk and jwash who are not playing should top james yap. :p

and for so long, marlou and espino were overrated because their performance were not up to par. good thing they were retired.

my argument you mentioned is not my full argument. it's just one factor ably supplied by resident philippine basketball insider nardy when he claimed james yap is the highest paid pba player now.

my thesis, that james yap is the most OVERRATED pba player now, stems from the fact that tim cone has said on record that james yap is bmeg's biggest weapon now. and that statement shows in the stat sheets (yap got 40mins in their last game). my point is while james yap is indeed a good player, i believe he is past his prime. his shooting is not as good as before, especially his 3-point shooting. opposing teams will find it easier to shut him down now. able defenders like smart gilas alums lassiter and lutz should be able to contain him without problems.

so, i believe, tim cone may find it a long season if he continues to make james yap the focal point of his team. and i know it is just one game, but i think james yap and his awful shooting was obviously the main reason bmeg lost to tnt.

today's forecast: petron over meralco: odds +9
alaska over ros: odds +3

meralco's lineup is just one rung better than shopinas, especially without macmac and sol. a team with gabby espinas and an ageing asi taulava in the starting lineup to me is already giving away 10 pct. pts in winning probability (save ofcourse against shopinas). on the other hand, petron is just hummimg. and i expect them to do just enough to make the game safely under their control.

alaska will finally win tonight, i think. the loss to powerade is a wake-up call. the guards have got to step up, and i believe it will happen today. coach joel banal has learned his lesson, painfully at that. he sure will not give as much mins. to the likes of eman and bugia. and i believe, it is high time to put back baguio in the starting lineup. on the other hand, ros is a hot team indeed, but it remains to be seen if they can consistently beat the more elite teams of the pba. this is a good test for them, but i'm afraid they will fail it. :)

.... WHAT?!!!! JAMES YAP IS NOW PAST HIS PRIME ..... HA! HA! HA! I would not comment, as I said its your opinion. It seems we now have an expert and at the same time a psychic now here in IBN. Am amused. Your posts reminds me of Dean Quinito as he also likes to share his Predictions plus his analysis.

you won't comment?!? you just did.

let's wait for the season to unfold. then we'll see who'll laugh in the end. sorry if i touched a nerve. but no need to laugh at someone's opinion, nor the sarcastic expert/psychic labeling. we're not that young. let's leave the immaturity to the younger ones.

this forecast turned out badly. there's a future in a Meralco-Petron long-term rivalry. Size, quality and emotions of the opposing teams offer a good match-up for a long-time. petron will actually need a fajardo to make the match very interesting. the coaching rivalry also seems to have a cool future.

meralco is just one rung better than shopinas??? this forecast is as bad as the ones i make.

yeah... i should stick to cheering. :D

but in fairness, i didn't know sol will play. and obviously, i failed to see that after arwind and baclao, petron had to do with a rotation of sharma, rob reyes and an ageing danny I in the front court. i would have preferred ato to have stuck with baclao and ildefonso, more than sharma and rob reyes when arwind got into foul trouble.

and to set the record straight, i said meralco is one rung better than shopinas, especially without macmac and sol.

it was an ugly game kanina. a question of who's less weaker. turned out meralco was less weaker.

and can ato stop using mark! this is a disgrace to the fans. something like when dudut was playing for his dad and ginebra.

actually, it is the coaches who are changing -- and screwing up. the petron coach is pretty good; but he was certainly lazy today, and did not prepare for a meralco that has enough available shooters and more resolute defense. the meralco coach however has no efficiency plans for bringing down the ball quickly and safely for pounding attacks, and could have easily lost the game too.

after the japeth fiasco -- it was really ridiculous to focus too much attention on a nobody player -- the rain or shine coach is now less stupid, and using better spacing with passing, and more players, to win games. too bad he likes ejections.

the alaska coach still goes too situational and gropes around for defensive patterns, and continues to lose grip of his players' game. with no reliable go-to guys, alaska could be headed to the lottery with little public sympathy for it.

looks like the final four cast can be something unexpected and very interesting.

Looks like RoS is on its way to take solo top spot for a while after tonight. :)

You gotta smile at the "Jackie" Chan and "Bruce" Lee comment... :D

poor joel banal. he should have just concentrated on his businesses. i guess the challenge of coaching a pba team again was just too much to resist. oh well, such is life....

hmm.... my forecasts turned out bad today. i'm officially 4-2 on forecasting winners, but my odds-making really suck! i should go back in being a fan. baka matawanan na naman ako at masabihang expert/psychic ni resident insider.

This Alaska team reminds me of the last Sta. Lucia team before they were disbanded.

The bench is probably the worst in the league right now which is a shame considering the amount of talent available in the free agency.

Send Bonbon back to the amateur leagues, he obviously can't play with the big boys.

Powerade & BGK were on board my flight this morning. i was only interested in having pics with my Archer heroes. i could name everyone in blue and red except one guy... then i realized it was Charles Tiu. :D

Alaska has no fire! No desire. :(

A 36 point blowout loss at the hands of RoS. A 0-4 win-loss card. Partida na ..... Guiao even seemingly got himself intentionally and needlessly ejected (probably to test his coaching staff). He probably knew that the win was in the bag anyway.

Stick a fork in 'em, my Aces are done for the conference ... the season ... forever perhaps(?). Could it be that Uytengsu might be killing the team slowly, making his pronouncement of "looking elsewhere" for competition less and less a threat, and more and more a promise? Letting go of reliable personnel like Fonacier, Hugnatan, JDV, Cone, and later on (to a lesser extent) Borboran seems to point to a gradual yet steady power-down from the once mighty franchise. Rumors are circulating that both Thoss and Tenorio are also on their way out.

Tsk tsk tsk ... huwag naman sana.

:(
