My chess knowledge is woefully inadequate, but checkmate means game over, right?

I guess some people treat the halftime score as the final count.

still, that's no way for a national team to play in the 1st half. lousy

that's just an abl team. we can't afford to play like that against the stronger teams.

whether we accept it or not, our team was ouplayed and outcoached in the first half. ;)

Hey Guys how u doin ?
Iv been trying to find a live streaming link to watch the entire ABC championship , but all i found was the pinoy-tv website, where only Smart Gilas' games are broadcasted, along with mahram Vs UAE last night.
There is a game now between ASU and KSA , and later on Lebanon Vs Iran , can you please give me a working link so we can watch all games ? :)
Thank you very much !

Televised games, I believe, are the 3rd and 4th games only. The links previously posted was working well last night. You might want to try them out later :)

i really hope it works starting the next game.

btw guys, watch Duhok Vs Dragons now, and u will see how weak Dragons are... ! knowing that Duhok is a weak team too ... !

Don't go dissing ABL teams as some of them defeated our beloved PBA teams before. That would be bashing the PBA!

You spoke too soon sir! 40-38 halftime. But I'm impartial with this game as Duhok have CJ Giles who is a former Gilas while Dragons have Vanguardia as coach :)

Hmmm in International play specially if you have no idea on how your opponent plays it's just normal to be a bit sloppy what matters is the end score because regardless if you are up by 20 all game long and lose at the last minute the lead would just be worthless....

haha no man, when i commented, the game was just started, the score was like 4-2 or something !
The thing , Duhok's locals are seriously weak, while Chudney Gray and CJ giles are average type of imports .
If they managed to use CJ and Gray the way they should, they will end this game with 15-20 pts win .
Take a look at Chris Ayer , 3/11 ? :) 6 pts @ half time...
i'll re-call, your group is seriously easy, u will win all games with ease, except ASU game, that u might have to fight a bit more to win, but u will with 10+ .
The problems will start , after the second round ( since ur facing the 4th of Group B , most probably Jalaa or Chabbab ).
but once u reach the semi, thats gona be hell :)

naks, justifying pa talaga.

play lousy in the first half and you will find yourself in a deep enough hole, one which you can't get out of.

gilas can do that to KL, the same thing won't happen against stronger teams

My humble forecast:

Group A
Philippines 4-0
Jordan 3-1
Saudi Arabia 2-2
Iraq 1-3
Malaysia 0-4

Group B
Lebanon 4-0
Iran 3-1
Qatar 2-2
UAE 1-3
Syria 0-4

PHI vs UAE = PHI
Lebanon vs Iraq = Lebanon
Jordan vs Qatar = Qatar
Iran vs KSA = Iran

I edited this to make Iraq winner over Malaysia, since Ayer is not playing as well as last game.

Yup which is why Gilas should really execute well first half pa lang but at least we trashed them by 30 ok na rin yun but should improve on the hard games

I know! Which is just what Gilas really needs. I hope they will clear the eliminations unscathed and get well-prepared for the quarters.

As I said before, I'm glad you hold foreign coaches to a higher standard. Chot Reyes had some really unimpressive starts with an all-pro NT in the importless SEABA some years back.

If you didn't raise a hoot back then the way you're doing now, that means the issue for you isn't so much how lousily a NT starts a game but rather the nationality of the head coach.

I understand you're very sensitive to the amount of explicit praise Filipino coaches receive. You wanted praise for Uichico during the Gilas-Ginebra series, and want acknowledgment for Vanguardia now. Well, it goes without saying that they deserve credit for what they've shown.

And I'm not disputing we had a lousy 1st half. I'm just surprised somebody made such a big hubbub about it.

But then again, I shouldn't be..:p

Go Team Pilipinas.

nah, you're just too sensitive of my statement that toro was outcoached by vanguradia in the first half... which is, objectively speaking, not far from the truth. :D

go team pilipinas! ;)

I get the feeling manu_bol is using the first half performance as an excuse to bash Gilas. He always looks for something to complain about (typical manu). You should get used to the fact that he's only good at complaining but not giving solutions.

Gilas played bad at the first half, PERIOD. They just need to focus and play better with more consistency next time. I saw the replay and apparently, they forgot their old friend "Defense" when playing in the 2nd quarter. Let's hope they learn their lesson next time.

Watch the game again and you'll see it has nothing to do with either coaches. The Gilas players simply did not do their job properly in the second quarter and they allowed themselves to be outplayed by their opponents' import.

What's wrong manu? Biased much with Filipino coaches?

Or are you simply looking for another excuse to bash Gilas like you always do?

I know. I blame myself for not getting used to his incessant whining. Now I feel really bad that I've touched a nerve and caused an emotional guy to retreat to his shell. I just hope he doesn't go on stress leave again.

Definitely, yes, Gilas played an atrocious first half. But I'd like to believe they can always improve. About their old pal Defence, well....he appears to be a fair-weather friend. There are times Gilas gets uhhh...abandoned.

Also hope they learn their lesson moving forward. :)

who makes the substitutions and adjustments? ;)

im not bashing OUR team? which post did i do that?

i've always maintained that i don't see anything special with toroman. he has good plays on offense but he sucks big time in defense and player development.

still, it's too late to change him now. it's never too late to criticize, though. ;)

At the same time, it's never too late to realize that criticizing him will do no good.

Your constant whining about us playing bad in the first half, what do you call that? Even I was unhappy with the way we played in the first half but I didn't whine incessantly like you did. They just need to play better next time. I would understand if you whined if they played like that for consecutive games.

Who makes the substitutions and adjusments? Yeah, I'm pretty sure Mr. Filipino coach of Malaysia made good substitutions and adjustments when Gilas was owning them in the second half. Yeah, I'm pretty sure Mr. Toroman did a bad job making substitutions and adjustments to counter-attack in the second half.

The good: they were able to massively turn things around.

The bad: you know it, they played bad in the first half.

Just so you know: there's nothing special with Filipino coaches either based on what they have shown in the past stints. And I'm talking about senior national team coaches, NOT youth coaches. Credible Pinoy coaches like Coach E should have been given the developmental job in the first place, if you ask me.

Like usual, it's better to stick with foreign coaches who know the international game, than a bunch of arrogant local coaches. How many competent local coaches do you know? Do we have an abundance of them?

Mahram is being bothered by the Riyadi defense, 19-10 in favor of Riyadi.
