How come Gilas placed in the top four of all their tournaments if they failed to convert outside shots? With that lineup, what do you expect him to do? Post up Japeth? Baracael?

International teams defends de numero also. They will rotate on every movement that's why this system of ours works against them but not on the PBA teams. This system has been the best we've had since the 2002 team of Busan. Even if we have the bigs we still need them to shoot from the outside. Its not the PBA where the pasabit thing works, and we also dont have enough bigs to outmuscle Asian giants. Outside shooting and early offense is our chance. It is a given that every Pinoy team lives and die with the outside shot. We cannot outmuscle these teams.

Ah.. so that's the goal for you... BeanLaden's perception may be right...

Yes, I also believe we have the best system so far for our NT. Did I say we should post up?  I'd say we make those shots!!
Indeed, they know how to defend our movements. That's why crisp execution is key so as just to provide a split second window. With such window, every FG attempts should count. That's what I call development of shooting skills. If only players are also dedicated to such. :(

Somebody post the Gilas' stats in this tournament and some stat of some Euro team, then we shall analyze...

Ha ha ha!

I was there from day one, pare.
I was there when we coined the word "Gilas"
I was there when we convinced Toroman to run the program.
I was the one who created the Gilas logo.
I was there each and every day Rajko will choose and sign-up players.
I was there each and every day -- from day one.
I was there. No pay. I was there.

I was there kanina when they lost to Qatar.

Balimbing? No.

Shame on me? Probably.

HAHAHA
You did not GET IT dont yah?

You were there just like yah said. You were there singing high praises bout coach Toro.
Now that you are no longer "officially" connected with the Gilas program, you bash Toro.

Di ba balimbing tawag nun?

Yeah shame on you NA. :)

more like sour graping, bro. for sure, pareho maasim yun:D

Irangels has very good points for NT program.
Your solution for "cohesiveness problem" is very good. Hence, the NT players should play together for about 2-3 yrs before joining the PBA... That way, the NT system and their teammates moves are already imprinted in their subconcious that they no longer need a very long preparation to get back to the NT's rhythm.

That could be the reason why other country's NT players seems not to suffer such "cohesiveness issues" even though they're playing under different ball clubs.
And one reason too, is that their ballclubs run similar systems/style. I've read Mahram's coach said something to that effect on the WABA teams.
So, another key here is for PBA to run Euroball system as well so as not to differ much from our NT.

with no pay? kaya pala may nawawalang budget... :D

they even practices at Ultra where the actual game held... so they really want to finish strong in this tournament and a top 4 finish is not that ok... smart gilas aims to be in the top 3... but because they are just a bunch of kids they showed immaturity in that game... they just did what the high school clubs do keep on shooting 3's and dont care about the percentages...

huh? are you high on something?

Every one is just frustrated to get results, well regardless if the program was a success or not at least it would lay the foundation for a better team for us in the future, at least we saw that given that even this is not the best team that we could ever send we can compete with the best of asia. We have to see the positives here that there is hope for our National team in the future anyway this introduced us on what is the current level of Basketball in Asia and what kind of players we need to develop, we already have the grass roots through our high school and college program it's just about changing the way these institutions play and develop players regarding player height

Hello namamangha, are you still an insider? Or an outsider looking in? Despite the flak you get in this forum, i trust you still know more than most posters here. Educate us: would Toroman be still with the Phil NT after Wuhan? Better yet, would Smart be still the major sponsor for the squad? Thanks!

Doesn't he have a contract spanning three years only? I'm guessing that sponsorship is a fair-weathered friend; it will only happen when there's effective advertising and return investment involved.

Thank you for being there at the start and being involved with the Gilas program. I do appreciate what the program has done, given us a good team to compete internationally and given us back the respect we deserve being an asian powerhouse in the past. Dont know why you have to be so upset with PBA players is this how much you hate the pba? i do agree with one thing, toro has to respect his players more. He is old school european coach, pound the flour until it is softer and better to bake. So he keeps on pounding the players until he gets a good response. But there is a limit to this, this can be destructive too and seem disrespectful to them. One day the players might explode in toros face and he will realize that it is time to support them and show more respect.

Have we not thought about this.... the past. We were in the olympics, we won the asian games multiple times, we were playing well against NBA players in the 70s but the problem was we never progressed like what the world has progressed in basketball. We are a small race and not as athletic as we would like to think. Maybe we are not the best or even the top 5 in asia but this program has made us think we can be better. Maybe we can go to the olympics... maybe we still have hope. If there were no smart gilas, no toroman no players there will be no hope
so Good luck team pilipinas

I would also like to commend the comments of KevinDurant very good logic to what you say thanks for the input

some of the posters here obviously do not play basketball and only watch it on TV. Im happy with the gilas performance -it can be summarized as follows - a good tall team will beat a small good team most of the time. You just have no idea how difficult it is getting a shot off against taller athletic defenders or guarding talller athletic players for that matter. Just be grateful our midgets gave a respectable performance :) if you expect our midgets to shoot 50% from 3 point area and perform like supermen, you will need a magician not a coach for that. :D

I do agree with your signature
I would get jwash for sg and CG giles as another naturalized player and let him play pf ( we dont have time and he knows the toro plays)
we need big US trained center and PF to compete with the west and east of asia

Lebanon would be a monster if they had the Egyptian No7 and if Woods is naturalized
