Smart Gilas has to wait, Hontiveros will first go play at the Semis vs Talk N Text which would have RP Team mates Alapag and Williams.

Who said Hontiveros, Pena and Siegle are old .... They are now saying, Yes we still can do it.

Hmmm ..... is it just coincidence but are the Teams who refuse to lend players to the National Team are falling out of contention, one after the other.

That's what I call sweet justice

Sweet Justice?

Maybe!

To add, same thing happened last conference. TNT, which allowed Kelly Williams to suit up in the 2010 Asian Games was the champion. Back in
2006-2007 season's Fiesta Conference, the same TNT team loaned their top three gunners (Taulava, Alapag and Ritualo) to the national team . But sans the three players, TNT was still able to enter the finals and one game short of becoming the champion after they led 3-2 in the best of seven championship series. People said, had the three were there, they could have been the champion.

But the next conference that the three were back to their mother team, TNT struggled and was eliminated after the wild card phase, I think.

My point here is that loaning their top players to the national team does not automatically mean that their teams will bid goodbye to their campaign. Same way, keeping their players does not guarantee them success.

Similarly, just after San Miguel was the corporate sponsor of the national team in the 2007 FIBA-Asia tournament in Tokushima, Japan, there wasn't any season when a SMC team didn't win a championship. In 2008, Purefoods placed second to Sta. Lucia in the AFC but Ginebra copped the Fiesta title. In 2009, SMB beat Ginebra in a sister-team battle for the Fiesta Cup. Last season, Purefoods won the AFC while SMB placed 2nd to Alaska in the Fiesta Cup.

It may seem forcing the issue a bit but it appears that there's a certain dose of blessing (good karma) given to the PBA teams who were generous enough to either sponsor the national team or allow their players to participate for the national team.

And with Dondon Hontiveros being allowed to suit up for the national team for the FIBA-Asia in Wuhan, good karma has come their way with the victory against Alaska, a team that refuses to lend its players to the national team.

actually it seems like they were more like vindicated after being traded by San Miguel and being an underdog in yesterday's match.

and TnT will win the championship this conference...

The success of the Uytengsu franchise in the PBA started in the 1994 season after they lend the "Flying A" to the National team for the Hiroshima AsianGames. Since then, from 1994 2nd conference until the 1998 3rd conference for a total of 14 conference, alaska entered the finals 12 times. In 12 finals appearance, alaska won 8 championships including the 1996 grandslam. If not for the 1998 Centennial team to the Bangkok ASian GAmes, alaska could have won its 2nd grandslam.

That is why they are the "Team of the 90's".

Coach Jim is really a miracle worker:

snowbadua snow badua GILAS STRENGTH COACH JIMBO SARET: MARCUS DOUTHIT will play tonight. Like CHRIS TIU and MARK BARROCA--- He's not 100% atleast in game 1.

^^^
let's give marcus a break. why risk his injuries? hope coach toroman changes his mind about this.

for those asking the answer is Yes and No .....

YES, ASI is already practicing with Gilas

NO, ASI is not allowed to play for Gilas this conference even if Marcus could not play.

i have the same perspective. if not 100% healthy or still have some pain, why play him?its a series nwei and it would be a good test for the other players to compete without their best player and starting center.

It's coach's call .... so even if the player is willing, Toroman should decide what's best for the team. It should be for the achievement of our true objective not just for now.

not unless marcus has been ok for some days now and they just wanted to surprise ginebra hence the press release that marcus is still troubled by pain in his hand :D.

injured or not injured, i still want to see them play and win at least one game against bgk without marcus. that would be a good simulation of playing an important fiba game without douthit in cases of injury, foul trouble, or ejection.

Nah .... saw Marcus at the FilOil opening with Charles Tiu and I shook his hand. My bad as I did not noticed quick enough that his wrist and arm were completely bandaged-up, as I can see in Marcus was hurting while I shook his hand that time.

But having been around Coach Jim Saret for awhile, I've really seen him do some miracles". He's really good.

Gilas five upbeat on chances

The games will be aired over TV5, the official television coverer of the FIBA Asia Champions Cup.

Jonno DC. Bales

according to this, TV5 is going to cover the FIBA Asia Champions Cup. is this true? TV5 has regular programming everyday especially willie's show. are they ready to give in for the FIBA Asia Champions Cup or they are going to air it in other channel like channel 13?

the gilas locals are not new to this. they've done it without giles, theyve done it without sampson, theyve done it without douthit. they will certainly do it again one way or another.
besides, this is a game where we can afford to lose honorably. unleash the locals and show the local pba fans what they're really made of--manalo matalo. i want the local pba fans to see for themselves that a gilas team without its naturalized player is just as deadly.
