Wait, are you being sarcastic? I never know about this, but nothing is showing? May be it works only in Greece?

I live in Belgium, so I don't think there's any geographical restriction. That's why I posted.

I have the suspicion that you are one of those overpaid EU bureaucrats thats surf the whole day in the internet .... :D

obviously, not overpaid enough to allow me to go to Lithuania for the matches...

Well...at the last moment, i don't believe that many teams would be available...

Otherwise, I think the federation is trying to protect the young player's confidence as much as possible and let them face a strong opponent this close to the official competition (after all, we all remember what was the result of last year's game against the US...)

who knows...

imo the game vs USA had (practically) no result. On the contrary, the picture of Greek NT in that game, was the result of the catastrophic previous game (and fight) against Serbia.

I believe that a team improves its strength playing against the strongest competition. The selection of our opponents in the preparation games was not the best (some other members have already pointed it out). And I was not at all happy watching our players humiliating those poor kids. (bad carma ;) )The initial choice was Montenegro (or Macedonia ? I'm not sure), not a contender team in any case.

This is my main reservation with the preparation period of Greek NT

so ert world nothing?

it's quite difficult to judge mate. Ert is a mess (like the rest of the greek public sector). They couldn't even the teams right (they still have Montenegro in the schedule for god's sake!) in a tournament held in Greece!
So, if I were you...I'd just wait and see...

If you want to be even more overpaid, you have to become a physicist and work for CERN. These guys were so bored that they invented the web to be able to surf during working hours! :D

Vougioukas was not bad in the last game vs Bulgaria but I still would prefer Mavroedis instead of him in the NT. Vougioukas is too much "easygoing", perhaps he should quit taking tranquilizers just before the games.:p

My optimism grows as the days go by. With the exception of Spain (and maybe France) all the other contenders are not impressive, not even very convincing. The initial rumor about the unprecedented strength of this year's teams in EB, seems to be just....a rumor. Good for us and for our young team. ;)

My prediction is that Greek NT (under "normal conditions") won't have any problems advancing to quarter finals. A match up with Lithuania or Serbia is what I hope then. For mysterious reasons, almost anyone believes that both those teams are clearly superior than Greece. I beg to differ :)

Do you know if yoday ERT World will broadcast Greece-Italy? It will be the last friendly game before the start of the EC...

Vouyoukas and Mantzaris cut from the Greek NT, which will go to Lithuania with the following 12 players

G- Calathes, Xanthopoulos, Sloukas
G- Zisis, Vasiliadis
F- Papanikolaou, Bramos
F- Fotsis, Kaimakoglou
C- Bourousis, Koufos, Mavroidis

That's 9 of 12 from my wishlist on the 1st post of this topic less than a year ago, so I can say I am satisfied. Of course, the three I didn't want to see there (Zisis, Bourousis and Xanthopoulos) remain out of the wishlist ;)

Why do you have this grudge against the Greek NT? Ok, I would pick Pappas instead of Xanthopoulos as well, but only after knowing they would have all these absentees. If this was your wishlist a year ago, you don't want Greece to succeed.

I agree with him (Wardjim) on Zisis... not on Xanthopoulos who does the best he can... and for Bourousis, ok he is a big mouth..., but without him, this team would have some huge problems...

So, I'm "happy" with this 12 (it is impossible for Zouros to cut Zisis even if he was the worst player during the preparation - In my "ideal" 12, Zisis would not be in the team)... Mavroidis is the perfect choice for the 3rd center (it was so strange not to see him in the first list). He plays at 100% all the seconds he has to play.... unless sweet Vougioukas (I like him a lot with PAO, but...)

Yesterday, Zouros, for the first time had a strange coaching, putting both Xantho+Zisis during the extra time... Total waste...
After Bargnani's 5 fouls, why not putting Koufos and Calathis... Greece needed quickness... and Cusin is not a great player...
Maybe Zouros wanted to see his experienced trio (Zisis, Bourousis, Fotsis) winning him the game.... but Zisis is unable to carry a team... It's so flagrant... he eats the clock, he shots badly... Sorry but he chocked.

Calathes and anyone else on that roster can't finish with any regularity one on one from their own shot creation other than a post up, and cannot consistently take a game over with their own shot making. Spanoulis can.
Greece would have beaten that Italian team if Spanoulis played that game. As soon as the opponents figure out that Greece no longer has any true scorer without Spanoulis - every well coached and smart team is going to play the passing lanes tight and double the big men.

You have some points here. Italia played a great defense... Pianigiani is such a great coach... In the same time, Italia is not supposed to be a great and strong team in defense, so Greece has to see the "truth" : good preparation games against (very) weak teams... Now they have the beginning of the Euro to rise their rythme...
But what the hell speaking about Spanoulis. He is not here this year. Let speak about the present players.

lol at all these haters here that think Calathes can lead a team like Greece at this level as good, or better than Spanoulis.

It's too early to have any conclusions... I mean, the tournament has not started yet... Yes, yesterday Greece played bad... bad in finishing the actions (Xanthopoulos, Zisis, Calathes, Vass', Koufos, Pap'... just Fotsis and Bourousis were "good"...)... Sorry but even if Calathes is not a natural scorer/shooter, he has shown that he could score some great baskets on penetration. What about Zisis who shot bricks, air balls.... You are very "hard" toward some (young) players that have time to improve (Calathes) and you don't mention anything about Zisis... sorry since 2006, he has been a lot of time a shadow... He is supposed to be a leader... He can not find any solutions, his shooting is worse year after year, he is slow, he has to keep the ball in his hands and passing the ball to his friend Bouroussis 3 seconds before the clock. Hope somebody will kick his ass in Lithuania. Dont't know what Zouros has thought yesterday night watching him in the money time...
Spanoulis is Spanoulis, Calathes is Calathes, Papaloukas is Papaloukas, Diamantidis is Diamantidis... This year the ball mooves way better than the previous years, there are some nice systems... Maybe the money times will be more complicated for us this year... I mean, a short defeat in 1/4 final is what I'm "afraid" now.

For the rest, 2012 is far away... and 2011 is a great experience for these 12 players (and for Zouros).
