Miami Heat thread

LeBron showed everyone that he can play the point rather than forcing the issue to score. As long as he is comfortable making plays happen for the Heat, it will be a rough ride for Dirk and the Mavs for their first NBA title.

Let's watch Heat vs Mavs live in Game 4 whether King James will sacrifice his scoring for a facilitator's role. NBA Game 4 will decide on the fate of the Dallas Mavericks. If they win, it will be an epic series. If they lose, congratulations Miami Heat.

You're right, Blue Chip. When LeBron is not throwing up those three pointers in isolation, he is the best player in the league: driving and getting fouled, passing, he can do all of that. That is why they won Sunday....well, that and that little fellow named Dwayne.

James played too passive on tonight's loss but had a well rounded game. If you are a HEAT fan you need more scoring from James and the natural aggression. James is a walking mismatch for the Mavericks on paper: You have a 6'8 250 lbs player with superb athleticism. But when James falls in love with the point forward role and stop being aggressive on attacking the rim, he is playing to the Mavericks' game plan.

By playing the passive game and letting Wade and Bosh do the game closing, James is shying away from the pressure inadvertently. His legacy is at stake on this NBA Finals. In Cleveland with all of James' failures, ok we can attribute that to the lack of a great supporting cast.

Now in Miami where there is Wade and Bosh to help James, alongside a dedicated supporting cast, James still needs to tow his team to the Championship.

Tonight, James did almost everything except the burden of scoring for the trio.

I agree Lebron played to passive on the offensive end. There is nothing wrong with bron being a point forward as long as he continues to attack the rim. I hope he does fall in love with the postion. He's close to the basket as a 4 and his court vision allows him to faccilitate. lebron is unlike anything we've seen. he's a cross between Magic Johnson (great passer, atheletic) and Karl Malone (undenible strong power forward).

I don't think its only about Lebron and his legacy. He needs to think about winning and not so much how he wins. Bron doesn't always have to close not with Dwade on his team. Bron lead the team in asists and he was 3/11 FG. All he needed to do was sink a few more shots, attack the rim more. Bron gets 13pts the Heat win. He doesn't (and shouldn't)have to be Michael Jordan who rarely deferred.

Right on! He did do it all besides score. Overall(including regular season) James leads the team in scoring albeit slightly over Wade. he leads the team in assist. He is second to Bosh in rebounds. Still his numbers aren't significantly above Wades to where he needs to tow every game but he can't go 3/11 not against Dallas.

Here are the playoff stats from NBA.com:

Bron: PPG: 24.2 REB 8.5 AST 5.6
Wade:PPG: 25.0 REB 7.2 AST 4.1

If Lebron gets his avg last night(game 4) its a blow out. All bron needs to do is be more aggressive on offense. He's doing great overall. At times I think his problem is emotional/mental. He's just not as tough mentally as great players need to be.

All very clearly flops. Like I said in another thread, if an international player or non-superstar "exaggerates," Jeff Van Gundy or whoever is commenting on the game will immediately star crying about the "flop." If it's Wade or LeBron or Kobe, they are just "selling the foul."

Read all the post and all very well said. However, am still not convinced James can run the offense when things go ballistics or when the shit hits the fan.

That's not true. Jeff Van Gundy called DWade out in the most scolding way in game 2 or 3. He also went after Lebron here is a Van Gundy quote on Lebron and Wade flopping and flopping in general.

"Those type of plays to me are starting to make parts of our game a farce. It's infuriating when you get a technical and you're right."

Van Gundy went on to say the league should do something about it. He suggested Commissioner David Stern hire him and his brother Stan as discipline consultants.

He said, "I want there to be a severe penalty so that every time I go back on the film as the dean of discipline and I watch every play and possession, those flagrant acts of acting, I am hammering."

Everyone has their biases BUT is clear that Van Gundy has been activly going after Wade and Bron this series for flopping. He's had to rants about it. Just out of curiousity, have you been watching the finals commentated by van Gundy and Mark Jackson? I know that their are international and foreign language commentators availible.

Well, I'm glad to hear that, Raze. I've always thought (and still do, I guess) that JVG is an NBA apologist.

I have, but I haven't seen all of them. I heard Marc Jackson say that when LeBron pretended to get fouled, LeBron was selling it and I think they both chuckled a little bit.

Charles Barkley rips the Heat and their fans!

Charles Barkley rips the Heat and their fans! I love Charles Barkley for being outspoken.

http://www.mediabistro.com/sportsnewser/barkley-rips-heat-calls-their-fans-the-worst_b10366

The sun rises in the east and Charles Barkley expresses disgust for the Miami Heat and their bandwagon fanbase. Appearing on “The Waddle & Silvy Show” on ESPN 1000, Barkley said fans of the Heat are ‘the worst’ and rather lukewarm when it comes to making noise.

“Yeah they have the worst fans. No question. It’s not even loud in there. You’re at the game and you are like, ‘Man this place isn’t even loud.’ At least when you go to Chicago, it’s loud in there, it’s crazy down in Dallas but it’s not even loud in Miami.”

The Heat went from zeroes to heroes in the course of one season, so it’s not surprising their fanbase is rife with dispassionate frontrunners.

Barkley, meanwhile, said he can’t bring himself to root for Dwyane Wade, LeBron James, Chris Bosh and Co.

“Listen, if the Miami Heat were playing the Washington Generals I would pick the Washington Generals,” Barkley said. “It’s something about that team that annoys me. They just a whiny bunch and I can’t root for them.”

Earlier in the playoffs, TNT had to move its pregame show from outside the arena in Miami to inside the venue, to separate Barkley from the swarming masses who engaged his attention by screaming obscenities and throwing the occasional towel. Barkley in turn shared a double middle-finger salute with Heat fans, assuring the discourse remained on an equal level.

Miami fans suck. Only the University of Miami's football team had true grit fans, and even that's died out over the years. There's too many things to do in South Florida.

Heat fans also don't know how to cheer right? It's hilarious. Wanna see a South Florida fan get excited enough to cheer and get out of their seat? Give out free shit. They love t-shirts. Watching the game, not so much. People will leave early to beat the traffic in a tied game against a divisional rival! Hell, the only interests the Panthers (hockey) and the Marlins (baseball) get is when some northern team (New York, Boston, Detroit, Chicago, Philadelphia, etc..) plays and their transplanted fans come to root against the South Florida teams.

Miami, Atlanta and L.A. are the worse sports towns in the U.S.

My brother has lived in South Florida for 7 years now and he says the exact samething!! The most spirited fans are of the colleges. When I visit him I usually get conversation from random locals if I wear an OKLAHOMA UNIVERSITY shirt. Usually from Gator fans or Texas fans(they are every where). What's funny is my brother has been a HEAT fan since the baby Jordan days. So when he had a chance to move to Ft Lauderdale he was so stoked! He was surprised when people in his office couldn't even name the players for the HEAT. Even after '06 championship he said fan support was surprising low yet ticket prices were higher.....

Yeah, but tell us how you really feel...:D

But isn't Fort Lauderdale basically Miami? I mean, aren't they really close geographically? Kazam, shouldn't you be rooting for Miami?

I like Sir Chuck's quote: “It’s something about that team that annoys me. They just a whiny bunch and I can’t root for them.”

When Sino's message first loaded, the image didn't appear on my screen. I thought you were making a joke about Dallas not playing defense. :D

Actually, it's neat to see that. It's exactly what they did last night. They showed on all the screens and "corralled" Wade a lot.

The HEAT, the team that almost everybody hated were two games away from the championship. Either way, everyone would have hated them on both outcomes of failure or success.

This is still a learning process for the core of the HEAT and their coach. That said the HEAT may as well re-tool for another run as all is not lost where the big three as Wade is in his prime, James and Bosh are entering their prime years. Re-tooling means getting better role players and more fire power for another title run.

The following will be free agents for the Miami HEAT:

RESTRICTED

Mario Chalmer

UNRESTRICTED
Mike Bibby
Erick Dampier
Eddie House (Player Option)
Juwan Howard
Zydrunas Ilgauskas (Player Option)
James Jones (Player Option)
Jamaal Magloire

Most likely, Chalmers will be fielded an offer and Bibby could be re-signed for less for having a veteran point guard. Magloire and Dampier will most likely give way to Dexter Pittman. The HEAT can pursue the likes of Kenyon Martin, Michael Redd, Tayshaun Prince, Shane Battier or Troy Murphy for better personnel.

Just some stats that need to be highlighted:

1) LBJ

First Round: 24.2 PPG
Conf. Semifinals: 28.0 PPG
Conf. Finals: 25.8 PPG
Finals: 17.8 PPG

2) D-Wade

First Round: 22.2 PPG
Conf. Semifinals: 30.2 PPG
Conf. Finals: 18.8 PPG
Finals: 26.5 PPG

3) C-Bosh

First Round: 19.8 PPG
Conf. Semifinals: 12.8 PPG
Conf. Finals: 23.2 PPG
Finals: 18.5 PPG

Clearly LBJ's performance in the finals was the worst amongst the "Big 3"...
