"If you can't handle the heat, get out of the kitchen"

And oh, i trust the mods will be more than accommodating but because of paranoid posts like this one i won't be surprised if it gets locked. The summary execution will even further strengthen the fact that you can not criticize Gilas at all in these boards. Which will be a very sad thing.

i dont think its about paranoia, we are threading a fine line here.

i appreciate the effort for the warzone-type of thread in compiling most of the negative energy and frustrations from the phil community. but threads like this can be misconstrued to bring the worst out of people. we cant speak for everybody, it wont take long until a troll goes for a homerun and spew insults on everyone, some will take the heat, some wont and respond needlessly to the provocation- thats where the trouble escalates exponentially.

i just hope the mods are intently monitoring this thread, kids are viewing and if this thread goes haywire and devolve into "your momma" insults then the damage would have been done regardless.

For a workaround maybe we can limit the view/reply of this thread to forum regulars, to meet the objective of tackling everything that needs to be covered about gilas. from there mods can better regulate criticism without having renegade accounts breed hate to ruin discussions. ;)

If only Jason Ballesteros' past coaches taught him the fundamentals, he'll be a complete player. He is more of a defensive stopper than a explosive scorer.

But I can say the devt team exposure made ballesteros pro stock go higher even he become a uaap mvp he is a potential bench warmer of a perennial pba lottery team because of his lack of offensive awareness:D

i dont know if this analogy makes sense but like in classical chess, i think toroman's idea of defense is a relentless offense.

toroman can be likened to a 19th century chess master in the mold of a lasker or steinitz whose outrageous plays would oftentimes leave their kings exposed in the middle in exchange for tactical advantage.

when the PBA powerade expeditionary team battled Toroman's iran in the Fiba tourney of 07, it wasnt Toroman's defense that sealed their doom. It was that well-orchestrated play in the dying minutes plus a bad call from the refs.

Lol. He can't be like Japeth or Greg or Rabeh or even Aldrech who are good scorers. He should work on his offensive game. His defense is great. His rebounding skills are great also.

if you're coach toroman, how would you assess jball all in all?

like i said, coach toroman's idea of defense is a relentless offense. that makes jball's defense kind of expendable.

I am not Coach Toroman even a college coach:D:D:D

but he can really play ballesteros at 4 in defense but he cannot play jason at 4 on offense as they say the MVP order is to have shot at london and go final 4 in asiad he does not have to wait for Jason to evolve unless..........:D

you should be a politician as you're good at evading questions:D :D
ok, does this mean that coach T has to call a time out every offensive possession to replace jball with baracael and vice versa? :D
it's just not practical, bro, let alone legal. lol

what toroman needs is a pf who can defend and score at the same time. but apparently, it is too much to ask for. so there, let's just support gilas and jball all the way.

youre the lawyer to be not me :D:D

in the beginning honestly toroman will say that "kaya ko ito the rp is 10 times more talented than iran to get the job :D" but in the long run he will crave for improvements yun nakikita nyang lack or kulang in his tenure as coach of Philippines you can say that he has not given a chance to coach a team with complete tools laging kulang-kulang:D if he will apply to coach another national basketball program

so far its above passing for toroman I give him props to the 4th place finish of u16 team:D

i still believe we could snatch the bronze come asiad

Lebanon has a history of not participating asiad or taking it seriously as jordan has domestic problems so we subtract the 2 out of 5 good teams =

final four shot:D:D

precisely and if lebanon would take a rest and not send its basketball team in asiad and if jordan's problem with its olympic body is not yet resolved, then only iran and china can torment us :D.

if gilas, with or without douhit, can't handle qatar, japan, or taiwan by that time then 2011 would really be a longshot:D

You forgot Korea.

You forgot Korea.

Admit it there are 10 good teams in asia separate it to two: elites(upper) and playoff contenders(lower) teams
for me Phils. has to top that lower bracket come asiad:D(at least make them "beatable:D")

remember the jordanian team not getting any younger

but hence Korea has its resbak:D

then go from there in 2011:D

You forgot Korea.

well yes. but its fine with me if we'll have a tough time against them in december. by december, i am hoping that gilas would at least be good enough to beat qatar, taiwan, and japan soundly.

and the greatest country in the world:D:D

With or without Douthit.

Japan - We have 50% chance of beating them.
Korea - 40% chance
Taiwan - 45% chance
Qatar - 40% chance
Lebanon (if they send their full team) - Slim chance
Jordan - Slim chance
Kazakhstan - 50% chance

toroman gives more importance to offence than defense and this is the reason why:

1. gilas results has been a disappointment lately with the exception in dubai ( gilas has not yet been scouted )
2. gilas played small ball almost exclusively and our tall line up is useless
3. japeth the most physically gifted filipino baller ever is not progressing and a big disappointment since he is not being tried at sf
4. talents like rabeh, jball, japeth and slaughter is not being maximize
5. gilas is losing even to less talented team.

regarding jason, if you notice when jball plays hes always very productive not in terms of points production but in rebounds, blocks and some intangibles that will not be shown on the stats sheet specially in dubai he was incredible and if he plays major minutes gilas wins 90% in international games, yeah jball is only 6'8 but he got long arms so plus hes reach he is like a 6'10 guy. what gilas badly need now more than offensive player guy is a defensive stopper on PF to limit those points in the paints of the opponents and get those rebounds.

i have been saying on my past posts that toroman is like d'antoni an offensive minded coach he only won a championship for iran because coach matic was at his side, he didn't have this kind of luxury in gilas, since gilas has not that much talent compared to other top teams defense should be prioritize its the only way to win against more talented teams, and one way to do this is use his tall line up.

all the current champion coach this days says that:
1. you can create your offense from your defense
2. defense will always be there for you every games while offense will not
3. defense wins you a championship while offense will only wins you games

offensive minded team
golden state warriors
new york knicks/suns
smart gilas - placed 4th on a weak tournament compared to fiba-asia/asiad plus has a losing record 1W-2L on a less talented but defensive minded provincial team cebu ninos

defensive minded team
los angeles lakers - nba champion 2009 & 2010
boston celtics - nba champions 2008
purefoods - pba all filipino champions 2010
cebu ninos - has 30 win streak and most successful team in liga ng rp and has a wining record against the current RP team 2W-1L

this facts will tell you that defense must be prioritize in these day and age!
this facts will also tell you why toroman is overrated!
giving more importance to offense is a thing of the past!
