Ahhh, too long, can't backread all of it.

But I get that Toroman and some players got a lot of flak from IBN posters from the Jones Cup results.

However, I think the results were not that bad.

I mean if Smart Gilas finished at second with a 5-1 record, I can just imagine that this forum would have been buzzing with how on-track we are and Toroman and the boys doing a great job. And how having beaten Jordan, Lebanon and Japan already, we just need a bit more tweaking to beat Iran, Qatar, China and Korea in the future. Never mind the "incomplete line-ups" argument coz we all had incomplete line-ups.

Just be objectvie, take a step back and look at the game with Japan and Lebanon. They weren't games we lost because we were terribly outplayed and our team performance be said to be utterly dismal and unprogressive. We were leading at times and we were actually in a winning position. We just lost because they made the last good run of the game. To stress, it wasn't an inferior team losing badly, it was more like equally matched teams slugging it out.

Even if in the end we ended up with the "L" in those two games, we proved that in over a year, we managed to mold a bunch of college kids and new grads into a team that can keep pace with the full grown MEN's teams of the top 8 basketball countries in Asia. Now that is something we can be proud of.

Akalain mo, men's team nila, pinahihirapan ng pang College natin.

Now that we proved we can keep pace with them, we just have to use the extra year to develop an extra step to overtake them.

You may say that they also have that extra year. But consider that mga mama na yun. Nasa peak na. On the other hand, our players are so young that they have no where to go except up.

Exactly my thoughts.. I said before that our team in the Jones Cup had a less than decent performance.. The teams they lost to are very good teams: Iran NT w/o Haddadi and Afagh(?) but still you will see how strong they are, Lebanon NT w/o main man El Khatib and some key players showed us that there is no such thing as a comfortable 10 point lead, and Japan who played minus Takeuchi twins and didn't field in Kawamura vs us showed their team has great promise.. Unless we credit our opponents for the win (especially vs Japan) then we would always regard the Jones Cup performance as 'poor'..

wait a minute what did Chris Tiu say:

"somebody is not doing his job well"

TOROMAN credibility is deteriorating....

Just take a look at this:-

DEC 2008 - "The team is only 4 weeks old and it is a sign that they will have a good future" ..... after they won a PROVINCIAL TOURNAMENT IN CHINA.

OCT 2009 - "The team is complete now and on the right track, overseas training will further strenghten this team"......after they beaten the PBA Selection National Team.

JAN 2010 - "The missing link is only a good Centre(naturalized) + the FIL-AM who is joining in May 2010"......after the "fluke' 3rd placing in DUBAI.

JULY 2010 - " I need PBA players" in order to be competetive in Asia" :):)
What the ****!

What the ****!

coach toroman is a victim of his own imagination or what we call "assuming things"(maybe)

the teams we beat in the past are almost club teams. those club teams are like national team-other mainstays+1 to 2 imports.
maybe he concluded in his mind that we can beat those teams without their imports who almost did 50% of scoring and rebounding.
now that our team faced those national teams who are still incomplete and we did a not so decent performance, maybe he got alarmed .:(
so he is now in semi-panic mode. he is,maybe, feeling left-out by other teams of Asia and he might have seen something that really made him open the lid that covers the panic button.

he should've watched PBA well.
an import laden conference doesnt bring out the best of Filipino players in a team(maybe some does well, but not all of them) unlike an all filipino conference.where to be able to win,you need to get bloodied first and show a lot of heart and level up your game coz there's no more superman to carry all loads in the team.
he should've gotten the idea or probability that
a club team + imports=prepared national team-imports.

now we all need to be ready for anything that might happen.
payo lang:dont expect too much. it lessens your frustrations and the pressure on the boys(as the NT players read this forums(?))
goodluck to all of us lalo na sa mga NT players and SBP officials.
God Bless Pinas!

I thought TOROMAN was an expert on INTERNATIONAL/ASIA basketball that's why he was hired?

He knows what to expect on ASIAN opponents before hand.

Alibi's cannot save his face now..

who's making an alibi?

Coach T even mentioned that Gilas will be experiencing hardships, failures and frustrations. That's part of growing process.

Yeah. Coach Toroman is actually honest in some ways. The only coaches I know who is good in alibi's is the Filipino Coaches :)

TOROMAN has nothing to loose as long as he is getting his $$,$$$.$$ per month.:):)

What a good holidays for him... already 2 years, right?

The Philippines basketball gains nothing on his alleged expertise??:):)

What the ****!

Hello Zaldy Perez!!

so what are your bright suggestions, mr brayt ?

It's a clear sign that this team will be disbanded soon as a lot of lame excuses started to appear.

What a wasted project. Wrong coach? Poor management? Inconsistent players? Basketball politics?

For those anti-Gilas peeps, go continue insulting the SBP and Gilas program. SBP will get their last laugh. Lol. :D

We as pinoys doesn't have this true sense of nationalism and patriotism. We only support our team if they win, but if they lose, we will abandon them.

WTF!

We really need Pnoys intevention sa kadamutan ng mga PBA, UAAP, and NCCA (let me include ABSCBN, GMA and Solar because they don't televise or support Smart gilas that much)that we must prioritize national team training and joining international competition, not this leagues with the same competition and no offense midgets size players thats why we are not use to competiting against taller and faster and stronger players. And PBa does not even allow 7'0 feet imports lagi, dapt standard na yan.

By the way to the crabs who criticize smart gilas let me remind you all that this is a pool for the future. They are Trained so they will be ready anytime of there are call ups for national team for international competition. This is not just for Fiba qualifying for London Olympics but this is long term program to make players prepared and jell at once when they are needed for international competitions.

Sometimes I just laugh if this money hugging officials and coaches tells that there players will not be available because of there leagues, wow. Uaap, NCCA, or pba games more important than international competition for our country? wow. Only in the Philippines.
