And no Magi King Sison either. Looks like Rabeh will be plugged into the lineup.

Rabeh has yet to prove his worth for Gilas.I hope he can contribute atleast 8 points and maybe 7-8 rebounds for Gilas and so is Japeth.I think more exposure for both guys will give them the maturity and the confidence they need.Rabeh has yet to learn the system and has to learn how to defend,Japeth has yet to learn his role as a power forward and learn how to score and defend the post.Douthit should be giving the team 10-15 rebounds and Kelly would get close to double digit rebounding. If these guys would learn to step up,we wouldn't be having problems getting all the looks we need for our outside shooters.

our lineup should look like this with Kelly:

Douthit
Aguilar/Al Husseini
Williams
Lassiter
Casio (or a taller PG)

Logo for 3rd FIBA Asia Stankovic Cup unveiled

BEIRUT, Lebanon (3rd FIBA Asia Stankovic Cup): The logo of the 3rd FIBA Asia Stankovic Cup, FIBA Asia’s premier event for men’s National Teams this year has been unveiled.

The 3rd FIBA Asia Stankovic Cup will be played in Sports City Beirut from Aug 7-15.

The logo (above) incorporates the significant aspects of the Lebanese National flag with the sport of basketball.

The reds on the diagonally opposite ends of the logo reflect the horizontal red strips on the Lebanese National flags.

The green figure in the center is a creative adaptation of the world famous Cedar tree – an integral symbol of traditional Lebanese culture and ideals – with one of its arms extending to half-hook the basketball.

The 3rd FIBA Asia Stankovic Cup, incidentally, is the first FIBA Asia event to be hosted by the basketball-crazy Lebanon for senior men’s National Teams.

In the past Beirut had hosted the FIBA Asia Champions Cup for club teams, for two back-to-back years 1999-2000.

The 3rd FIBA Asia Stankovic Cup is the qualifying event for the 26th FIBA Asia Championship in 2011, incidentally also to be hosted at Beirut, which in turn will be the qualifying event for 2012 London Olympics. The winners of the 3rd FIBA Asia Stankovic Cup will automatically qualify for the 26th FIBA Asia Championship in 2011. The top five teams at the 3rd FIBA Asia Stankovic Cup will earn additional berths for their respective FIBA Asia sub zones.

This is the first FIBA Asia event hosted by Lebanon for National Teams.

The 3rd FIBA Asia Stankovic Cup will witness the return of Iraq’s men’s National Team to FIBA Asia competitions after a gap of almost a quarter of a century. Iraq had last played in the 14th edition of FIBA Asia Championship, when it was hosted by Bangkok in 1987.

The 3rd FIBA Asia Stankovic Cup is also the first FIBA Asia event for senior men’s National Team to be hosted in a country under the West Asian Basketball Association (WABA). The most recent FIBA Asia official competition hosted by WABA was the 20th FIBA Asia U18 Championship at Tehran (Iran) in 2008.

Commenting on the occasion FIBA Asia president Sheikh Saud bin Ali Al-Thani said: “We are all aware of the passion for basketball in Lebanon. It is only befitting that Beirut should host this premier event at a crucial time when a lot of FIBA Asia teams, including Lebanon, are preparing for the 2010 FIBA World Championship in Turkey.”

“I am confident that the Lebanese federation and people will rise to the occasion and give us one of the best events,” Sheikh Saud said.

Hosts Lebanon, FIBA Asia champions Iran, Syria and Iraq are the four teams who form the WABA quartet in the fray of 10 teams in competition.

Kazakhstan from Middle Asia, Philippines from SEABA, GCC champions Qatar, and East Asian duo Japan and Chinese Taipei are the other confirmed teams, with one wild card entrant yet to be decided.

FIBA Asia

If Lebanon finishes from 1st to 5th position and considering they are the host next year, does that mean the next best placed team will advance to the Asian Championships.

If its still like last year's Stankovic Asia Cup, the top 5 placers qualified to the FIBA-Asia Championship. So we need to place no lower than 5th place. So placing 1 or 2 in the group elimination round could be enough. I wonder who are our group mates.

except for Iraq, all teams would be tough teams. I wonder what is the wild card team?

I'm guessing it will be Korea or Jordan. The latter team is most likely because they are in need of preparations for the WC. Plus, travelling to Lebanon is not that troublesome for Jordan.

Korea's National Team is currently in the US training with the San Antonio Spurs. It is reported the team would only primarily train inside the United States.

Jordan is set to play at the Croatia Station in it's Friendly Tournament (20-22 August 2010) along with New Zealand , Russia and hosts Croatia . But the JBF is preparing for a Friendly Tournament in Amman at the beginning of August and invitations were sent to Egypt , Tunisia and Some Clubs from Turkey , Serbia , Bulgaria and Portugal . before that the NT will fly to Portugal to participate in Portugal's Friendly (24-28 July) along with Angola , South Portugal Team , North Portugal Team .

It is most likely last year's host Kuwait or India is the wildcard team.

Sorry for the off topic; but Sir nardy who is the chick in your avatar?:D

its Marian Rivera .... back to regular programing please

Sir Nardy what is the probability that the current line-up of SG participating in Jones cup will be the same for this Stankovic Asia Cup ?

Draw of Stankovic :

Group A :
Iraq
Iran
Japan
Taiwan
Kazakhstan

Group B:
Lebanon
Qatar
Philippines
Syria
Jordan

Coach Tab Baldwin chooses the group B bcz its tougher than Group A , the first game will be Lebanon vs Philippines

This is bad

With the way our team is performing, I have doubts they can make it to the next round. Even if they did, how much gas will they have left to win the remaining games?

Toroman better make some adjustments soon. And for goodness sake, what is the news on Douthit's naturalization?

Syria is a bad team now , they are even thinking to withdraw!

What's happening in their side of things? I haven't seen their NT since 2007.

I'm assuming Khatib will be back in this tourney.

most of their good players retired or at least they got really old , and plus there's no plans for their NTs.

Khatib is now waiting a decision from Baldwin to bring him back or not , Freije will 90% miss this tournament.

last year the Syrians sent a team to the FIBA Under-19 World Championship held in Auckland, New Zealand. They could have started with the core of that team to re-built their National Team.

most probable they are the ones playing except for Marcus Diuthit as his Naturalization has not been granted yet. This is a tournament exclusively for National Teams and no imports are allowed.

I expect Greg to play a lot of minutes and this could be the tournament where Rabeh could show-up internationally. But Jason would definitely play. Hope Japeth recovers from his injury.
