i think banchero, casio, cawaling and hopefully lassiter are healthy enough to play at jones cup. (banchero though is not injured btw) plus we might see CS play with RP team. they can send 15 players in the jones cup. with 3 reserves alternating. the same thing that the 07 team with having 15 players.

Could you kindly backread please. Banchero tried out for Gilas but is not confirmed whether or not he'll play at the Jones Cup. Standhardinger wasn't allowed by his school to go meet with the team at Vegas. Cawaling along with Ramos will play for FEU. Lassiter's contract will expire this month so unless Gilas could offer something juicy for him then we might not see him wearing a PILIPINAS jersey at the end of the month.

Are Jones Cup participants treated as national teams, or as club teams? I'm asking this because it is not a FIBA-sanctioned event, and if Banchero plays for Gilas without it being recognized as a legit national (as opposed to "selection"/"traveling") team, he could end up losing his eligibility. Which is sad, seeing that he is in the running to be the D-II player of the year next season.

With Lassiter, things might be different. Is he on loan to Gilas from the San Miguel team that took him in the last PBL draft, or is his case something like Japeth's?

Norwood played at the '07 edition using his american passport so I guess Banchero could do the same. They only allow NTs as far as I know. But for Philippine teams, if there are no PBA players then you have to pay for your own expenses ('08 edition).:D

I don't know if the PBL has the same rules as the PBA regarding the loaning of players.

i hope by that time Kwill is available along with Bachero and the team is healthy. And i hope by that time Greg will be a starter along with the naturalize center. We have no choice but to really train him to be a starter, and im confident he can do it. And let us pray for miracle that fajardo finally be let go by Fernandez and his school.

About CJ giles being back i hope it will happen since he is a very good rebounder and shot blocker that we need. and he knows the system

Depending on how US NCAA will interpret Jones Cup's status, Banchero might lose his NCAA eligibility if he plays for Gilas in that tourney. I understand there were American teams that participated in the previous editions. If any of those teams had US NCAA players still eligible for the following season then that's the precedent we may be looking for..:)

@TBP

i thought jazul and guevarra has played their eligibility years (either by graduation or the 5-year tenure)?

i think if he'll be suiting for gilas as national team then there'll be no problem

of course no compensation should given beyond the minimum allowed (for allowance etc)

I think TrueBloodedPinoy was referring to the US NCAA, where Banchero plays.

my inquiry is for his post from page 1. to wit:

Here are some likely absentees due to their commitment with their respective college teams.

JR Cawaling
Aldreach Ramos
RJ Jazul
Rey Guevara
RJ Jazul
Magi King Sison

Why are some of you so paranoid about non-issues like this, yes there may be clubs at Jones Cup but no way on earth can this be interpreted as a pro tournament, there were NCAA teams like AIA in previous Jones Cups, also Australian AIS many of whose players later played in NCAA.

to each his own hehe ;)

with no tournament on-going, everyrthing remotely relevant could be an issue with some fans :D

Jones cup is an invitational tournament usually for national teams (except really to strong tems like usa, australia). But it depends on the organizers if they allow players who might be potential opponents of Taiwan nt in the future fiba competitions. There is no rule eligibiliy or what tht can be violatd by participating in a invitational tournament

yep we are paranoid :D. maybe because we are looking for that one player who can get gilas over that hump and into the next level. for most of us, maybe it's banchero. we hope there are no complications for him being with gilas.

It was really a non-issue when I first looked into it. Then I remembered CS sitting out for some time. For what? For playing in a team that paid a player(or players?)..oh well, yeah..I am paranoid, I just wanna see some good results soon..

that's fine. toroman and eala are probably feeling more tension than u :D

i hope korea sends a team (senior or junior national team) so we could see how gilas would fare against their system.

we already saw a glimpse from their military team sangmoo

the typical korean system is there but its just a club. not even a kbl team.

i want to see the guys play their national team. it would be nice to see what advantage can e have against them given that our speed is more or less equal and they're the superior shooting team.

but even without the guys from south korea, this jones cup will be the true gauge of gilas current level. not the champion's cup.

sangmoo isnt your ordinary junior team all korean men undergo military raining so once in their life they play for sang moo imo they are slightly better than a university select team of korea

but still their not national level. sometimes korea sends their senior team in the jones cup. if they'll be in the nba summer league this year, a 22-and under team would be tough enough for gilas.

i thought junior team or senior team of korea would be a test of RP teams strength? last year joo tae soo is a key player of sngmoo he is also a member of korea junior nt in jones cup 2005. Sangmoo players come from the junior nt of korea also or senior nt like Yang dong geun sang moo is collection of former junior nt players and some senior nt players. its unfair to say sangmoo is not a national level team

okay let say this if Philippines nt use gials as fron club nam for the fiba aia champs cup also korea select team (national pool) names sangmoo as front nam to participate in fiba asia champions cup
